Does he have a no trade clause? I don't think he gets to choose where he gets traded to.
Romo is practically in the Jones family photo. They arent dumping him Cleveland.

Opinions vary then.

Letting a top 10 quarterback leave for absolutely nothing is asinine.

It's the most prized position in all of sports. You don't give that up for nothing.

Would it surprise you that Indy did exactly that when Luck appeared. Never say never.
Manning came back from injury and won Denver a SB.

We have 60-80m in cap space next year........we need picks not cap space

Waiving him is the worst possible outcome and is therefore the leader in the clubhouse

It is like tearing up a 1st round pick and telling his new team "keep your picks that will help you beat us with Romo"

Stash, I totally understand where you and other Cowboys fans are coming from. Just don't see it happening in this case. Been wrong before and will be again so we will see.

If a durable Brett Favre got traded for a 4th (may have been conditional and/or another pick... can't recall) I think Romo's trade value may be below that.

What has Indy won since then? Using them as an example of letting a guy walk as the right decision is bizarre.

PS - I also believe that the Colts has a massive roster bonus (nearly $30MM) due to Manning that year and they really didn't have the option to trade him.

Sorry, but I wouldn't call it "exactly that".

Manning's career was in doubt with that neck injury and spinal surgery, and his contract became unmanageable. He was due a $28 million roster bonus and the Colts had the #1 pick and Andrew Luck locked up.

There was no way the Colts could afford to keep Manning.

You don't think Romo's career is also in doubt. One hit on his back or neck and he might be out for the year or life. Yes, not
30mil but, 14mil is not fish food.

I stand corrected.

I'm surprised that you are not eligible if you release a player for salary cap reasons. I thought we did a couple years ago for Ware which is why I was mistaken, I did a little research and I see I was wrong.

Because you don't get compensated to get out of a bad contract, which is essentially what we're doing if we release him.

It's the worst dead money hit in franchise history... for nothing

I won't argue what his value may or may not be, but I will say two things:

One, Favre was traded to the Jets because the Packers wouldn't let him go to Minnesota. They likely could have gotten a better deal in a trade if they hadn't limited the conditions.

Two, they still got something for him. For a guy who had talked about retirement for several years. Romo has said numerous times that he wants to keep playing.

I'm not saying they will get a ton of compensation, just that they can and should get something.

It's less than half of that 30 mil.

And I'd put Romo's career in less doubt than Manning's was at that time. Back injuries are bad enough, spinal fusion surgery? That's quite another yet.

Favre's relationship was frayed for years in Green Bay as well Stash. So the circumstances were different when it came to the relationship with the front office.

Again its a class act move sometimes the high road is better.

Explain how the high road would be better here?

I think people are literally just grasping at straws to defend the organization here.

There's one reason to not trade Romo, well two:

1) Because you won't get anything for him.

2) You don't want to trade him now and take the cap hit now, you'd rather take it over two years and that's why a June 1 cut makes the most sense.

Any logic that involves loyalty to Romo is midguided. Jerry's obligation is to the team first, not Tony, as much as I and apparently the Jones' like Romo. There's no real long term payoff here by letting him walk if you in fact can get compensation for him.

Another classic example of robbing Peter to pay Paul again!

We have to be the worst team in the NFL at trades and getting picks etc for players. We telegraph everything. Meanwhile NE and company is polishing their 5th SB trophy.
