Rumor: TO wants new contract?

Considering his history, I would be SHOCKED if he wasn't offered a contract extension this offseason. I would be very surprised if T.O. plays in 2008 with only this year remaining on his current deal. imo, he's earned his pay.

Exactly.... It amazes me how some minute rumor from an Eagles message board brings the shelved TO haters from last year out of the woodworks... truly amazing.

Pay the man, he is the best player on the team and the best WR in the legue period.

Aside from the fact that you are 110% correct, who is that in your avatar??? :p:

TO has always said he likes his contract, but I wouldn't be averse to extending it. He's earned it.

I can't believe I'm saying that.

& you owe it all to that 12 step program. :D

On a serious note, It's like some Cowbys fans are sitting back waiting for TO to misstep.. geez.. That's ridiculous. He has been nothing less than a model citizen, and all star WR, and arguably the best WR in the league (this year). Please quiet the same ol TO talk folks. If anything, as Hos noted, the money would be well deserved. As previously stated during the meat of the season, if we had 22 TOs and 21 Wittens on this team we would be sitting back and enjoying the Boys in two weeks.

What did the price of hotdogs go up again? owens needs to find a new hot dog store.;)

This is off some Eagles board, they were wondering if it's true.

I think probably not, but if we have any South Florida fans on here, maybe they can shed some light.

I would highly doubt some Eagles board got the scoop on this, I have heard nothing of this, not even at PFT, the National Inquirer of the NFL.

Seriously however, if TO wants a new deal I give it to him. Considering how our offense went into the crapper when TO went down, kinda hard for anybody to argu not to pay him.;)

I can see why, he just wants some security. With football as it is, playing in a division with big hitters such as Dawkins and Landry, he could be carted away in the preseason with only what he already has. He took the contract with understanding this is the way for him to remain highly paid but also give the signing team security. He's done his side of things and remained a model teammate so he deserves one last big contract.

Are you serious? I would take a tenth of what he already has.

If I remember right, isn't his cap hit really high this year? Wouldn't it be possible to extend him two or three years and actually lower the hit this year? It seems like something like this has been done in the past.

And there's a mexican who would take a tenth of what you have. Then there's an Kenyan who would take a tenth of what he has. It's all relative dude.

id say pay the guy, our offense is pretty average without him.

He's earned his new contract with what he's done for us, pay him what he's worthlike we do with other players. We need him badly to score points and he likes being a Cowboy - win-win situation IMO.

Every decent player in the NFL goes for an extension (new contract), during the off-season before the final year of the current contract. We all knew this was coming up, like we also knew that the mediots would try to blow it up into something it is not; just the normal business dealings in the NFL. Get ready for a bumpy ride the next few months, unless Jerry decides to take care of it early. I am fine with signing him to a reasonable contract. He deserves some of the top WR $$.

I just want to know if anyone in south florida saw this show. That's all.

This is one of the many reasons why we need to get a young receiver that has the potential to be a #1 in here as soon as possible.

As it stands, I believe Terrell Owens holds all the cards and can hold this team hostage if he indeed wants a new contract.

However, for a myriad of reasons, I do not think the events that unfolded in Philadelphia will repeat itself in Dallas, with regards to T.O. and his contract issues.

I guess the homers all forget about how T.O did everything in his power to play this play-off game while hurt?

Yeah, that's it... He's worried about Laron Landry.

Skins fans... LMAO.

Not only that...

Jerry is opening the new stadium.... HE WANTS TO there.... playmaker, moneymaker.... just flat out needed in more ways than one.

Give him a 3 year extension or new 3 year deal.

I'm not against extending TO unless he wants up front money or guaranteed money. Otherwise, I say let him playout next year and then see how he is doing. Positions like RB, WR, and CB are heavily effected by physical deterioration from age.

A rule to live by, never sign a big/long term contract with a RB over the age of 30. It's just not a good deal. The same usually goes for WRs also. One big thing you must look for is dedication to ones body. TO, Rice, Seau, and several others do not let their body go during the offseason, and they are in the gym before everyone else and after everyone else. Newman I've heard is the same way.

If you sign a player over the age of 30 to a big contract, he MUST be a gym rat that believes in 365 days a year of health and conditioning.

While sometimes you can get away with not following the rule of thumb, it's a very high risks to do so. Every year over 30 TO gets, that risk rises significantly. Especially with the fact that he is one of the three positions that are effected the most. He is 34 now, with a year left. If you give him a three year extention, you're paying him top dollar until he is 38! If you give a signing bonus or guaranteed money, thats a huge risk.

No rule of thumb deal on TO.

He will get some up front money. If he gets hurt... YOU KNOW he will do everything possible to get back out there.

Its a good gamble. You would be betting on a thoroughbred...
