I've heard the same.
This has never been straight up a "what is he worth and what will we pay" thing.
They want badly to keep Dez and based on his contributions on the field and as a team mate, they would pay him top dollar.
But they see some risk and exposure on things out of their control. That should be clear by now.
I can't stand rumors though. If there's nothing there then this is doing everyone a disservice.
Also, those saying they wouldn't tag him are missing the point. The tag is just one year of exposure. If this is real (and I really have no idea if it is) it may not come out for another 2-3 years. Someone would have already released it if there was no hesitation.
There is nothing clear about any of what you said. And nothing has to be "wrong" for there to be no deal at this point. There are many big name players not yet signed. Are all their teams afraid of some nefarious subsurface issue?
Is D. Thomas really a dirtbag and we don't know about it? Does Cobb secretly hate cheese and so the Packers are holding back?
Or maybe this just business as usual in the NFL?
