Sorry Stash; I don't see it.
Petey wants his release but is aiming for security first, whether it's with the Vikings or another team. It's about the money.
How does that make any sense? Does he want to be released or does he want security? Which is it?
He's calling the Vikings' bluff. If they really want him like they say, why not show him that they due with a financial commitment? If it means smoothing things over and ending this public embarrassment, why not pay him some of the money that they claim to be willing to pay him now rather than later? What's stopping that?
Zimmy wants to show Petey/the team/NFL he is in charge and he either plays or sits on the Vikings bench; to concede now would be counterproductive to his position as the head coach.
Zimmer obviously has
zero power in all of this. "He's only a pawn in their game". He himself stated months ago that he would work with Peterson if he truly wanted out. And when it came down to it, Zimmer was told that it's not his call and then changed his tune to what the company wanted him to say. He's powerless, so his words are useless.
Logic, to me anyway, dictates that if Minny does decide to trade him, it would not be to the team that covets him the most unless it was for a high (#1) draft pick. He will not be released. Sorry.
Does 'logic' also not dictate backing up what they say with what they do? If they mean what they say, why would they not agree to give him some measure of guarantee? If having him there long term is truly what both sides want.
I think the Vikings are showing what they truly do want. Actions, not words.
