Dallas let Schultz walk knowing this was considered a "deep" draft for TE's.

They choose to create a need at TE for financial reasons. (Dallas wanted to keep Schultz, but not at his price)

The tight ends in the draft went faster than Dallas imagined. Schoonmaker was not the TE they wanted.
:hammer: ....I'm still shocked they passed on Darrell Washington. If your going to draft a guy that's injured...take the guy with the higher ceiling

Didn't like the pick but hopefully it works out. Hard to see dallas being as good or better at te or kicker than last season.

Yeah not sure what the logic is passing on Darnell Washington when there was a huge emphasis on adding a major run blocking TE and he's pretty much a 6th OL. Team is in win now mode and they draft someone that can't even make training camp.
Washington is supposed to have knee issues.

I don’t like to complain about players before they even played an NFL down.

But this just feels like with our luck, Schoon because a solid player like Blake Jarwin. Torrence becomes an All pro.
Finding a guard isn’t hard though.

When the news came out a couple of months ago that he had plantar fasciitis, you knew this was going to be a real problem. We’ll see if he even plays this season. Our two second year TEs better step up. Someone needs to emerge.

You have to think longer than today. There is a reason Schultz didn't get a big offer. There is a reason Schoon was drafted.

So YES is my answer. Remember why those two things happened. Especially Schoon getting drafted.
We'll see! Hopefully Schoon develops and Dallas gets a lot of productive years out of him. He certainly has a higher pedigree if judged by draft position.

I just felt that if Dallas had coughed up a little more money for Schultz, they could have "bought" a second rounder to be used elsewhere. But I do get your logic.

They isn't why they let Schultz walk. Both those statements are incorrect.
Is it not true that Dallas offered Schultz a contract? They wanted to keep him, but were unwilling to meet his financial demands. Dallas would have retained Schultz for the right price.

Is it not also probable (at a minimum) that Dallas viewed the upcoming draft as a deep draft for TE's? I can't tell you how many times I read that, so Dallas's scouting department was certainly aware. They must have considered that when making the decision on Schultz.

I believe both statements are absolutely true.
We'll have to agree to disagree.

You think Jarwin was solid? 70 catches in 5 yrs?

Where does the extreme love come from for this backup dude?

Not a surprise for either. I think Schoonmaker will play this year, but will have limited snaps as he manages his pain levels. Rest will help depending on the severity, but surgery down the road may be a possibility. At some point he and the Cowboys may have to make a decision if rest hasn't fully helped if it's better to shut it down and free up a roster spot. Hopefully it's of the mild variety and rest will get him to where he needs to be.

And thus it seems the Cowboys' mostly questionble 2nd round draft pick leanings continues.
Is his plantar fasciitis chronic or acute? If it's the former im surprised our medical team do a "Damone", and make it public that he requires surgery and lower his draft value.

Not saying he was great. But the year he was supposed to be the guy he tore his ACL week one. Every other year he was buried behind guys like Witten or just couldn’t stay healthy.

Like James Hanna, not world changing but a good depth player.

I feel like the 70-80 catches in 5 years is where Schoonmaker will be at … 15-20 catches a season.
