Good god. They are going to give a player also?

Hopefully this is just speculation.

I just watched the update about it, with Adam on NFLnetwork, and according to him the talks are at this. The Titans are asking for a conditional 3rd round pick. Dallas is offering a 5th. According to him it's going to wind up very likely being a 4th rounder, meeting in the middle as it were, and that is what will bring him to Dallas. There is no mention of a player being swapped in the deal, at all.

There are two different threads going on. One with Schefter's update, and this one from sports illustrated.

Zach's production and place on the team is no guarantee, IMO. I'm not that optimistic. I hope everyone's excitement is justified, but I have doubts.

Whatever you may feel about Akin's production as a starter, his value to the team is still more than what Burnett or Carp has shown to this point in the regular defense. Should Zach be the starter and gets hurt for any reason, would you be comfortable with either Burnett or Carp stepping in? I'm not.

I would be fine with Burnett or Carpenter stepping in. More than fine actually. Ayodele's 'production' was less than average. You couldn't tell the guy was on the field.

Zach Thomas made more plays in a 5 game injury-filled season that Ayodele did in a full one.

I wouldn't want to, but he's still young enough for a team to think he has upside and might be intrigued for trade possibilities.

I think Ayodele might be a better fit in a 4-3.

And he's a little too much 'style over substance' if you ask me. To the point where he thinks he's a lot better than he really is.

I'll stick with Schefter's update. It sounds better and is probably more accurate, IMO.

Other than the Galloway trade what are you talking about? The Walker trade, trading for additional firsts the last few years, the Haley trade etc all fly in the face of that idea.

How about James McKnight? Traded a third rounder for a player who would likely get cut. You would have think we'd learned from that raping and not thrown two first round picks at the Seahawks the next year for Galloway.

O.J. Santiago? This was an all-time head scratcher. A complete non-factor.

Drew Henson? May have set us back as a franchise at least a year or two. If not for Quincy Carter's drug use (I believe that was a trade up in the draft to land him), it would have cost us Romo.

Trade ups for David LaFleur (dear God, we were fleeced by the EAGLES) and Ebenezer Ekuban (the Seahawks - my how they must have loved us).

There's been a few others that I'm sure I'm missing, but in general I'd love to be on the receiving end of a trade with Jerry especially if he doesn't have Jimmy or Parcells telling him which moves to make.

So, if it's a conditional pick, that would mean that it's for the 2009 draft, correct?

If so, I would give them a conditional 4th next year and call it a win.

What is my 'kind' anyways?

The kind that points out rightfully so that Burm has manlove for any ND player no matter how good or bad they may be.

Wouldn't surprise me if he switched to be a Seattle fan so he can continue to cheer for Julius Jones.

Hmmm....so how's Troy Smith doing these days anyway?

;)

...and Fasano IS better than Curtis. I like Curtis, don't get me wrong, but he isn't the all around player that Fasano is. He's got superior athleticism, but that's about it. Sometimes I think Crumpler's success has blinded people to think that all TE's should be in the "ex-b-ball player" mold....when in reality, they should be in the "football player" mold. Fasano is a football player.

Having said that, I think that if we were to lose Witten for an extended period we'd be just fine with Fasano filling in. There would clearly be some drop off, but not much. Without Fasano, I'd still feel somewhat secure with Curtis there, but considerably less.

Our TE depth is outstanding, and it costs peanuts. We should try to keep it that way.

Not much drop off from arguably the greatest TE in the game today and...Anthony Fasano??? Did I get that rt? :lmao2:

Yes, you did. Congratulations.

I think Fasano is perfectly capable of putting up a 70 catch 750 yard season in Witten's absence. That's about the drop off I would expect.

If they redo his deal and make it for 1 year, I have to question the whole thing. If he does well and stays out of trouble, he will want a big contract which we cannot afford in addition to Barber, Canty, Newman, Hamlin, Colombo, and Ware. To me, the smart thing to do is to force him into a fairly cheap 2-3 year deal with limited cap ramifications for releasing him while he has no real leverage and is just happy for the 2nd chance.

:hammer:

Why run the risk of Pacman staying clean and having a good to great season and then having to resign both him and Tnew to big money contracts. I know thatwith only one year of good behavior and a good season will not justify top dollar but given where CB contractsare a second tier contract will still be too much. I gaurantee that if we sign him to a one year deal we will definitely take a CB with one of our 1st round picks.

Your right, my bad. How stupid of me.

Hey, if TO goes down too next yr, I think we can obviously expect a drop off to say...Miles Austin, but not much. Not much.

And I have been kinda depressed about the Dirk injury, but the more I think about it, Brandon Bass has been solid. A drop off sure...but not much.

A 5th and Alan Ball? Oh hellz yeah. Justin Rogers. Bowen. That's about the caliber of player I'd expect it to be.

Hurd would be a dark horse. Not because he's black, either.

I'm sorry, but where did I say that this would be true of any other positions? I didn't? Oh, gotcha.

And I think Curtis is capable of replacing Fasano as this team's backup TE.

Fasano was a mistake as a draft pick and he's been a disappointment thus far.

If as Hos suggested, we could get Miami's 3rd round draft choice for him, I would pounce on it.

I'd really like to see more out a guy that barely made the roster last year if I'm going to have him as the only depth behind a starter. Given when he did play, he certainly made the most of it, but he doesn't have the experience you'd ideally like in that position. He may very well be, but I just wouldn't feel too comfortable given what little I've seen from him.

I don't like the idea of taking a third for a guy we spent a second on two years before...especially when he's proven to be a good player. I doubt we'd get more for him though.
