HH....I'll agree with you on the defense....assuming Burnett (who I like very much) peforms...and we sign Ayodele.

But that offense is looking fairly average...at best...with all the same problems we had last year...RT...C...LG...old WR's...and no PK...and Bledsoe another year older...

That's why Larry Allen is being replaced by Kosier!

Look at our probable starters for next year(This is assuming that we sign Ayodele):

QB: Bledsoe
RB: Jones
TE: Witten
WR: Glenn
WR: Crayton
WR: Keyshawn
OT: Adams
OG: Allen
C: Johnson/Gurode
OG: Kosier
OT: Draft pick/ Pettiti

DE: Ellis/Canty
NT: Ferguson
DE: Spears
OLB: Ayodele
MLB: James
MLB: Burnett
OLB: Ware
CB: Newman
CB: Henry
SS: Williams
FS: Will likely sign someone or draft FS

Now, that is a pretty good team without any other additions. Assuming we will draft a starter at FS, LB, or OL, it will only get better. Lighten up, people.

Yeh a pretty good 9-7 team.

so then knowing OL is a need, we replace our longtime cornerstone with a ? no one's heard of before and we're easily arguable worse off than last year and still have a lot of OL holes to fill.

and some wonder why others are not happy so far.

Our "longtime cornerstone" was part of the problem.

Larry moves like a STONE!

All he can do is stand there and hope a guy runs into him.

oh i agree there - w/o doubt. but i don't think a sleeper FA is going to offer a whole lot more. so lose larry (good, let him go) and plug in kozier and we're still worse off to at least no better than before. it's taking a step forward only because you know you're going to take one back when 3-4 solid steps forward are needed.

I think we're slightly better off because Kosier is more athletic and can deal better in space.

This will be big help to JJ, who excels on delays and the space created by a decently run screen, if such a thing could ever happen in Dallas. I honestly think we'll notice a big difference if we move to a smarter, more athletic line.

I'm not by any means saying that this constitutes a major line overhaul, but Kosier could just be a better 'fit' for the offense we want to run. However if this is all that gets done to improve the line I'll be right there with you that we are risking too much on Rivera getting better, Adams fully rehabbing, Pettitti reaching some level of at least averageness and Johnson/Gurode getting it figured out.

But guys like Bentley and Hutchinson were pipe dreams.

why? how much $ do we have and how would the contract they signed eventually have fit into our own space?

pricey yes, but we have no marquee player on the line and somehow flo took on that mantle w/o ever doing anything to earn it.

I looked at that offensive line and you just reminded me........just how offensive that line really is!

We have to re-sign Witten, Roy, Brady and Newman next year IIRC. Yes, a $16M signing bonus for Hutchinson (that might not have even been enough if Seattle matches) would put a crimp on that.

Cleveland and Minny have GOBS of cap space. Getting into a bidding war with them over these players would not have worked.

normally and conventionally i'd agree.

however, the skins were supposed to only be able to put 2-3 players on the field this year, much less overpay for 2-3 players. teams that really want something find a way to get it done so we just don't seem to have *wanted* a marquee OL FA this year.

i think it's gonna smack us in the nose like a newpaper does a puppy dog wetting on the carpet.

I agree.

We fans were more concerned and interested than the organization, it appears.

What other guys did you want?

Because there was no way we were going to beat out Cleveland for Bentley or Minnesota for Hutch. They flat out have way more money to spend than us, and Cleveland is Bentley's home town anyway.

What other 'marquee' name OLineman did we miss out on so far?

As for the Skins, so far they have paid top dollar and a couple of draft picks for tier 2 players. If that's what you are envious of, more power to you. We are still in a position to get similar quality players if need be, and possibly cheaper, adn I guarantee you we will be enjoying draft day a heck of a lot more than anyone in DC.

There aren't any marquee OL. And that isn't the point.

If you are going to fix a problem, you give yourselves options.

It appears we are content with options like Marc Columbo and Jacob Rogers :)laugh2: ) for our issues at right tackle, instead of players like Kevin Barry or Tom Ashworth. That's a pretty dangerous game to play, particularly that we will be starting a sixth round pick there again who gave up the most sacks in football.

Link? I've been looking for a site to show me how many sacks players gave up.
