See, I remember Campo the coach that Jimmy Johnson used to pat on the head and made his personal whipping boy.
I'm sure that's why he brought him along for the ride to the NFL from Miami. He needed a whipping boy. I guess if he's good enough to be the great Jimmy Johnson's whipping boy, he's good enough to be Wade's.

He held eleven jobs in 18 years before he became Dallas head coach. Two more in the four years after he was fired (Cleveland, Jacksonville). That's thirteen jobs in 22 years. There is a reason for that.
In 17 years in the NFL he's been with 3 teams. Hardly a guy that bounces around.

Assistant coaches live nomadic lives just in general. I don't think you should hold that against him when most times their success or failure is tied to the success of a head coach.

So you can find any number of reasons to hate the idea of Campo coming back, but I don't think that's one of them.

Here's Ray Sherman's stops:

Pro coach: Houston Oilers 1988-89, Atlanta Falcons 1990, San Francisco 49ers 1991-93, New York Jets 1994, Minnesota Vikings 1995-97 and 1999, Pittsburgh Steelers 1998, Green Bay Packers 2000-04, Tennessee Titans 2005-06. Joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2007.

A great coach that doesn't stick with one team. Should I post Hudson Houcks? I'm sure I could go on and on. Its the life of a football coach.

If Campo doesn't know the 34, then how can he help us? Once again Phillips and Stewart will have to spend their time teaching Campo the 34. Why bother when I would think there are defensive coaches probably available who knew the 34.

Is this a serious question? He's coaching the 2ndary not the DL.

And Campo is a very smart defensive coach -- I doubt he'd have any problem with picking up a new system

Campo makes a very good assistant coach, and history has proven that.

But I wouldn't want Campo as a Head Coach again. I think there is approximately a 0% chance he'll ever be a HC again with the Cowboys, so no worries.

Seriously, this guy was part of the reason we won 3 Super Bowls. As an AC, we could do a lot, lot worse.

A Jerry/Jason Guy. Not a Wade Guy.

A blurb from Clarence Hill's article about the Grantham hiring:

Phillips is looking for a secondary coach who primarily has background working in the 3-4.

Couple that with the rumor that Phillips wanted Solari but was overruled with Houck.

Any questions who is behind this potential hire?

His top choice appears to have been Thomas, who has only 1 year of experience with the 3-4 out of a couple decades of coaching.

So now your angle isn't about Campo not being a good hire, but its now Jerry is meddling?

Look Solari and Houck are both great coaches. Our offensive coordinator actually has experience with Houck(so does Wade), think maybe Garrett had input on who they hired.(Probably had something to do with his brother being the TEs coach too) Think maybe Wade liked both candidates, but went with who his coordinator and owner were comfortable with?

Well, Roy did have his best years under him. I would rather have fresh blood with this position though.
That really had more to do with Darren Woodson being around those years. Woody was such a great cover safety that all Roy Willy had to do was run around and hit people.

It's not an "angle". Just demonstrating how the spin that this would somehow be a "Phillips guy" is doubtful at best.

And if Jones is indeed trying to recreate the coaching staff he allowed Bill Parcells to dismantle, I am amazed that no one finds that odd.

And why would Garrett have any say on who gets hired for the defensive staff?

The head coach should always have their say in who is on their staff whenever possible.

Hello, who was the secondary coach/DC in 1995 when we won our three Super Bowls?

Campo, that's who. If my memory serves me correctly we had some pretty good secondary play during that period.

The Jerry-bashers are using this as another reason to take potshots at Jerry, even though it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Houck and Campo also presided over the greatsest run in Franchise history as assistant coaches.

They are damn fine position coaches and if he is hired, the team will benefit.

Jeez, theo it's honestly amazing that people still do not get that the 3-4 refers to the front seven and has no impact on what kind of coverages are called, etc.

Not by any means trying to be a Jerry basher and i will keep reading this
quote over and over again. It gives me hope the team will continue to
compete or even to get better. All i can think of is those three 5-11 years.
