Source: Campo a possibility to be Cowboys’ secondary coach

A prime example is G Williams to the Skins. Failed as a HC, but an excellent DC. I'm sure there are many, many examples.

I am not a Campo homer and do not think he should be a HC. We all know Campo was not in charge of the roster he was given.

I am just wondering how many coaches would have been successful with the same talent he had to deal with.

Again, not suggesting he was a good HC. I did cartwheels when he left, but some of the hate thrown his way is irrational.

Very few coaches could have had consistent success with the teams he had.

Not a great coach but could have done a little better if he had a talented squad like we have now.

that too. I get the feeling they almost wait for Dallas to fail so they can say "See! Told ya!"

Yep, 11 years' worth.

Do you really think that Campo would be a bad secondary coach for this team because he was a bad coach? Does that sound like a logical conclusion to you, considering he has had lots of success as a secondary coach in the league?

Oh jesus, this is horrible news.

Just another sign that the end is near. We're sinking back into mediocrity slowly but surely now that Jerruh is back at the helm.

Campo is largely irrelevant. What I'm saying is that any coaching decision/acquisition will be reflexively praised as a "good move" or "wise decision" on Jerry's part, no matter how much it undercuts or emasculates his head coach. Eleven years of disappointment, but Jerry still gets the benefit of the doubt. Incredible.

Well, look who's crashed the party.

It's a good move because the hires are good coaches. On the surface every coach he has replaced this year has had success in this league. That's why I give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'll wait to see how Jerry's actions affect the team before I crucify him for it.

Sorry, can't put on a happy face in light of such terrible news.

It's one thing to disagree about players (i.e. Roy Williams)

But denying what is right in front of you? Jerry is driving this thing right back into the ground.

It's not even that Campo is a bad position coach, per se (although ther are plenty of better options out there), it's the fact Wade can't even hire his own damn assistants. Do you think he wants Dave Campo? Do you think he gives a flying frick about Dave Campo? I'm sure he had someone in mind and much like with the offensive line, he was trumped by Jerruh, who is back in the saddle and bringing back all his puppets.

Aside from that, he was the head man of one of the WORST ERAS EVER of Dallas Cowboys football. Why would you bring back ANYONE who was such a major part of that? It's bad enough that we have Jerry still around, why bring back Campo too?

Jerry is getting the band back together and it's really disheartening to sit here and watch. Who's next? Jack Reilly?

Ralph Wilson also isn't pondering bringing him back to the Bills, is he?

Wait? You just said it was a good move (evidence notwithstanding).

so what?

Williams never had the success as an assistant that Campo had as an assitant while here.

Now I know, you'll whine and moan that this harkens back to the 5-11 era and so on and so forth. But here's the God's honest truth. Campo has had success as a secondary coach at this level. Whether it was in Dallas, Cleveland as DC or at Jacksonville his pass defenses were pretty solid. That is what makes him a good hire.

No one is even thinking of hiring Campo as HC or even DC. If we hire him we are putting him in the position where he has had the greatest success in the league.

If it was anyone else with the same track record, nary a word would have been said.

I'll wait to criticize him for it.

In light of the fact that he may hire a secondary coach with a good track record as an assistant then yes, I'll give him the so-called benefit of the doubt.

Ugh.

It's not that he's a bad positional coach at all. I just don't want to see his 5-11 mug ever again.

Mel Phillips, Jerry Gray, or Dennis Thurman are infinitely better options IMO.

Please God NO!!!!!

Those who think Campo was a good position coach aren't remembering correctly when he coached our DBs. He was the guy who first started with them playing 10 yards off the LOS and not playing the ball.

Dave Campo was the worst thing that ever happened to our DBs.

Then he infected Zimmer.

So good that Jack Del Rio is willing to allow him to leave after his vaunted secondary was burned for nearly 600 yards in two playoff games.

Incorrect.

If you listen to the Sunshine Brigade, Dave Campo was an integral part of our three Super Bowl titles in the 1990s.

I seem to remember a pretty good crew of Deion Sanders, Darren Woodson, Thomas Everett, James Washington, Kevin Smith and Larry Brown having even more to do with it.
