I'm not sure what you're saying. Of course Parcells isn't going to pay him not to play. But he doesn't want Taylor around the practice facilities knowing that Taylor isn't going to be part of the team.

If he knows that Taylor isn't going to be part of the team, then he could release him, recoup the 7.5 million he was going to count towards the cap, and then use that money in free agency to better the team.

To just tell him "I don't want you around the facilities" while still purposely keeping him on the Dolphins roster and paying him 7.5 million against the cap is in essence paying him to not play football.

Obviously he expected Taylor to be part of the team. Otherwise he would have released him and used his salary to outbid the Jets for Calvin Pace to play Taylor's position.

Didn't the Titans do that to McNair in TC prior to trading him? Keep him out to avoid the risk of injury? Or was that something McNair fought against and won?

The Dolphins could cut him now and designate him a June 1 cut (assuming they haven't already used up all their designations). So I think this is more of a desire to keep him until they can find someone willing to part with a draft pick to get him. I don't think any team will trade for him, so he'll end up being cut.

He was a ghost in giant land last year. I remember reading the stories of him just hanging out at his house on manhattan beach in the south bay of LA and the rest of the team at camp.

If fellow future hall of famer strahan can do it so can taylor right? I mean strahan won a super bowl and gets to talk trash about everyone now.

Its not possible the giants allowed a terrible example to be set is it?

The people bashing parcells and sporano on this one are out of their minds. Skipping pretty much all of the offseason when you have an entirely new coaching staff and a whole new attitude in your franchise is a fireable offense.

I wonder where he will end up. should be interesting. I hope he stays out of the nfc east, a team like washington which has no pass rushing players could really benefit from a ticked off and motivated taylor. So could the eagles and dare I say it, the giants.

I don't think so. I don't think he'll ever do anything more than appear in a handfull of B-movie, straight to DVD action movies for a few years before he's quickly forgotten ... and those don't pay anywhere near 7.5 million a year. He may be good looking or charismatic guy by football player standards, but in Hollywood he's a dime a dozen.

He's stepping into a great unknown with no guarantees about his future. It's going to be hard to walk away from one last 7.5 million payday ... if he really had all these great Hollywood opportunities he would have retired and moved on by by now. He clearly doesn't want to play football anymore, that I agree with.

Yeah, I just found out about it this offseason. Apparently they changed the rules last year to allow teams to do that, and allow players more time to find a new team.

that is not a good thing. The last thing we need to deal with is a motivated taylor in philly.

I would think philly would be hesitant to make a trade for him though, he is older and very expensive they have played that game with kearse and it didnt work out.

How could they recoup his 7.5mil? Is that his base salary, because that's all they'll save if they cut him. Whether they release him now or after the first they still will have to eat Taylor's cap number, either all this year (before June 1) or a split between this & next year's cap (after June 1).

Jason Taylor is too much of a ultimate, selfless, saintly team player to ever get ugly over an expiring contract to play on a team that is probably going to suck balls. He must just be frustrated with Parcells treating him like a child - not a man. A man that dresses in tight pants and sashay's about on national television - but a man nonetheless.

Parcells is surely at fault here.

Emphasis mine, to point out that this is just gamesmanship. Sure, Taylor may well be out of Miami, but Sparano's carefully parsed words are intended to fire a shot across Taylor's bow, and maybe to the vets on the team in general, while still leaving the door cracked. "I know that right now Jason is not going to be at training camp" is a mile away from "Jason will not be in camp, period." Clearly, Parcells doesn't like Taylor's absence from "voluntary" workouts, and Taylor probably thinks that a many-time Pro Bowler and recent defensive player of the year doesn't have to bow and scrape to the new guys, and that "voluntary" means just that. All considered, they're both right, and they're both wrong. Both parties pretty much couldn't handle this situation any worse.

Jason Taylor wants to play for the Cowboys, considering Zach Thomas is probably telling him right now that Miami has never been this stacked since the two were there. The guy is a beast, plain and simple. If Greg Ellis can make the adjustment to play 3-4, Jason Taylor definitely can. Greg Ellis is no Jason Taylor.

The guy, like many veterans on their lest leg, wants to play somewhere else, where he will have a chance at a championship.
