If he knows that Taylor isn't going to be part of the team, then he could release him, recoup the 7.5 million he was going to count towards the cap, and then use that money in free agency to better the team.

To just tell him "I don't want you around the facilities" while still purposely keeping him on the Dolphins roster and paying him 7.5 million against the cap is in essence paying him to not play football.

Obviously he expected Taylor to be part of the team. Otherwise he would have released him and used his salary to outbid the Jets for Calvin Pace to play Taylor's position.

But then he couldn't make a trade. He knows Jason Taylor is worth plenty on the trade-market. Bill Parcells is using Jason Taylor for his own advantage and Taylor also knows it.

If they release him... I would bet Zach will be on the phone giving him directions to Valley Ranch!

You mean Parcells is trying to do what's best for the Dolphins?

Jason Taylor wants to play for the Cowboys, considering Zach Thomas is probably telling him right now that Miami has never been this stacked since the two were there. The guy is a beast, plain and simple. If Greg Ellis can make the adjustment to play 3-4, Jason Taylor definitely can. Greg Ellis is no Jason Taylor.

The guy, like many veterans on their lest leg, wants to play somewhere else, where he will have a chance at a championship.

Totally agree. For the life of me I can't figure out why people don't want him here. The guy won defensive player of the year in 06. That wasn't a long time ago. There are plenty of examples of DE's who continued to dominate late into their career. Jason Taylor isn't just good, he's one of the very best in the league. Plus, I would bet two to one odds that he'd be willing to take a reduced salary to play for the cowboys. We'll see, but I bet he's here before the start of the season.

How could they recoup his 7.5mil? Is that his base salary, because that's all they'll save if they cut him. Whether they release him now or after the first they still will have to eat Taylor's cap number, either all this year (before June 1) or a split between this & next year's cap (after June 1).

High Profile location, Cowboys in SuperBowl hunt, Brother-in Law Zach Thomas in place here, Parcells likes to isolate high-priced vets(who can still play, to make an example of them--see Larry Allen.

Taylor June 1 cut-- two years, 9 million dollar contract.
Situational pass rusher only ---sounds a lot like N.E. signing of Junior Seau.

I'm on board.

Wow, what a shocker.

This is what he wrote on his blog a few days ago..

So basically his "example" as a "leader" for being the "best football player he can be" to the younger players is to just skip offseason workouts to promote your Hollywood career, then skip training camp, but then show up the first day of the regular season so you can cash your 7.5 million dollar paycheck from your employer.

Stay classy, Jason Taylor.

Tuna wouldn't even speak to him.

I'd say the stay away policy is at the least mutual.

I don't think so. I don't think he'll ever do anything more than appear in a handfull of B-movie, straight to DVD action movies for a few years before he's quickly forgotten ... and those don't pay anywhere near 7.5 million a year. He may be good looking or charismatic guy by football player standards, but in Hollywood he's a dime a dozen.

He's stepping into a great unknown with no guarantees about his future. It's going to be hard to walk away from one last 7.5 million payday ... if he really had all these great Hollywood opportunities he would have retired and moved on by by now. He clearly doesn't want to play football anymore, that I agree with.

Guys his size and model pretty are not dime a dozen even in Hollywood but even at that he isn't gonna make 7.5 mil in the NFL every year for long. If he makes 3 or 4 B-movies and ends up on some crap tv show on WB he'll be better off financially long term. Those are sad but true facts of it.

Its not like he is losing his NFL pension.

I don't see how anyone can argue he doesn't want to play football? He is at odds with the Tuna and was clearly going to use this off-season to get out to LA and make a name for himself but i is no where near training camp time and he is entitled to miss everything until then.

Taylor WILL play football this year, period, and he will get paid well to do so.

When you are good that tends to happen.

I think we should totally pick him up, bench Ellis and make sure Spencer sees as little playing time as possible. What the Cowboys really need right now is a 35 year old player for a position they are heavy at. If with any luck, and by the grace of God, Parcells will let us have him for next years first and his boy Carp to sweeten the deal. Jerry pull the trigger.

Not sure about that after they drafted two DE's in the top rounds, but it's still possible.

Yeah he won't be in Miami much longer, the writing is all over the walls there... I don't think Dallas will have any interest though.

I think more than likely he called to say he would miss the first day or be late and Parcells just told him to stay in Hollywood.

We all knew Parcells would cut a vet leader, .

Who you gonna replace him with...............coach?
