Makes sense to me that he would prefer to be released and I can see Jerry giving him the respect to grant those wishes as long as he agrees to stay out of the NFC East. (The last part i added because those are my selfish feelings about it lol)

If your afraid of Tony ending up in the NFC East your saying he's better than Dak if that's the case Tony should be playing. You should play your best players period.

Just amazes me he won't fight for the starting job.

He can't compete for the starting job. He can't stay on the field. Can't stay healthy. Every time he gets hit he breaks something. Been out for 2 years.

Right now he's there as an emergency backup for Dak if he gets injured and to help coach Dak up. Keep it going.

For all intents and purposes, Romo's done.

PFT: Tony Romo may request, and get, a release in the offseason

It was reported several weeks ago that Romo is eyeing the Broncos. He’s also keeping tabs on several other teams, potentially including the Cardinals and Dolphins.

Why the Dolphins? If Ryan Tannehill eventually needs full-blown ACL reconstruction, there’s a chance they’ll need a Sam Bradford-style replacement for 2017. Romo could be that guy.

The more immediate question is whether at any point between now and the end of the 2016 Romo will be that guy for the Cowboys. Once the season ends, though, a different dance will happen between Romo and the team. With a far lesser degree of ugliness and hard feelings between Romo and owner/G.M. Jerry Jones than existed eight years ago between Brett Favre and Packers G.M. Ted Thompson, the Cowboys may be willing to give Romo a parting gift consisting of the ability to pick his next team unfettered by a trade.

The biggest risk for the Cowboys is that Romo will land in Washington. Again, given the existence of a positive relationship between Romo and Jones, Romo will be far less motivated than Favre was to stick it to the team that no longer wanted him to be its starter.

No way he lands in Washington, Cousins is doing just fine. Silly talk.

I'm sorry but getting rid of an aging injury plagued QB wouldn't even make the top 20 of bad Jerry decisions. It isn't even a bad decision. Nobody's going to give us much for him anyway.

We've gone over this before and I dont have the patience to explain everything again.

We still have to pay Romo a significant part of his salary which us guaranteed
A teams success is based on QB play
We have no idea how good Dak is going to be
What happens if Dak gets "figured out" by opposing defenses next year?
This teams window is now
You keep Romo unless someone offers you a deal you can't refuse

Ask the Texans or the Broncos what happens to good teams without QBs

are their any informed salary cap folks that could help clarify the financial ramifications to the Boys if Romo were released, if he retired but then returned to find a new team, etc?

I love Romo, think he's been a great player/teammate, but I'm not one who believes the Cowboys have endless obligations to him at the team's expense. It's a business and Romo has been compensated handsomely over the years for his end of the deal. If/when he moves on, the team and its need to compete remains, where I believe the FO putting the team in the best position after Romo is not unreasonable

My main concern in all of this is the chance that Dak is a one hit wonder like Foles was. I. Glad we're playing some really good defenses as that's how he'll improve and/or we'll know more. Dude has been lights out until this point, and at least he seems to be more under Linehans design rather than Garrett, which can only be good.

My guess is Jerry would let him be free, Stephen would want anything at all back and choose where he goes, eg a 7th rounder from Miami or buffalo

If this team's window is now than you can't depend on an aging QB that can't stay on the field. The last 2 years have been dominated by Tony's injuries. If it wasn't for Dak this season would have been ruined too. I'm tired of sitting around waiting for Tony's bones to heal all the time. I actually don't think the future is now. The team is still growing and learning how to win. The defense needs to be fixed or this team isn't winning anything. And as for Dak, we have to know what we have with him. We won't learn anything with him on the bench and then it will be another wasted season.

The Broncos? They just won a SB with sub-par QB play. Of course they had a great defense.

Yes for this season. That article didn't state Cowboys have already penciled in Dak as their starter next year.

I doesn't make sense to ride Dak into the playoffs n bring Romo back next year. The only way they might is if Dak collapses the rest of the way n they think he needs more time but then Tony would just retire because that's what they get for being stupid n going with a rookie. It's really simple they can play Tony in the playoffs in which case he would concider coming back or release Tony or he retires he doesn't need the money n Denver would compensate him for the money he would loose by retiring out right then put him on an incentive deal. We not getting jack for Tony unless he plays.

Take a pay-cut to the vet minimum in 2017 and we'll release you in 2018.

Tony can play when we have the division wraped up (or the NFC), 4th quarter mop duty. Until then.

So Romo has given up competing for the starting job next season. Sheez. Really Romo, finally you have competition at qb and you won't fight for the job.
Really?
So this article so filled with speculation that it has Romo possibly playing for the Commanders and Cousins disappearing is enough for you to attack Romo for not competing for the job. Romo....the guy who asked to compete for the job just a few weeks ago.

Are you serious with this crap?

This is what they did with Ware, at least to some degree.
They didn't push hard for a trade to get every last cent they could.

My guess is if do move him, they'll work something for all sides

Prescott better prove to me that he isn't Nick Foles before I let Romo just walk out of town.
Prescott won't rot if he losing the competition and has to learn behind Romo for a year or until Romo breaks something else...haha.

I don't know how he'd be an upgrade. Smith doesn't have a history of injury and he isn't nearly as old as Tony. He just consistently wins.

The defense allows for a game manager to be behind the center. Romo is a notch over that as he can make plays down the field. I'll take 247 TDs and a QB RTG of 97.4 over 154/88.
