Makes sense to me that he would prefer to be released and I can see Jerry giving him the respect to grant those wishes as long as he agrees to stay out of the NFC East. (The last part i added because those are my selfish feelings about it lol)

I think JJ will honor that as well. JJ will be looking towards the future to have Romo back with the team in some capacity. He isn't going to stick it to Romo like some of the idiot fans here are. At his age he has earned the right to ask and go play for a team of his choice. I don't think we've ever seen a player a QB of his caliber held for a trade. It just won't happen JJ SJ are very fond of Romo.

Gotcha, I understand what you're saying now. I think it's just assumed or common knowledge that if the Cowboys are going with Dak, as the starter, that it doesn't make sense to carry Romo's salary for the role of a back up.

I could be wrong but I assumed that when they said they were going with Dak, that they meant as the starter from here on unless unforeseen circumstances pop up. ie Dak lays another stinker or two during this playoff run.

I would love if we could keep both and let them duke it out during the off season. I happen to love having these two amazing talents as our quarterbacks. I don't want to give it up.

Just curious do you really think Romo would lose a QB battle to Dak? I'd bet my 2 house my boat and my investment portfolio that says Romo wins in a landslide and it won't be close.

Doesn't matter how the Cowboys finish, Romo will NOT be here next season. His cap # is far too high and he can't stay healthy. Dak has already proven the ability to win games in the NFL, and is making about 19.5 million less than Tony. It makes no sense from a business stand point to retain Romo after this season, and that's just the cold hard truth no matter how many fans will be devastated upon his release......

Sorry but you're wrong. If Dak doesn't bounce back tonight and get a W, you could very well see Romo back in for the stretch run. They aren't going to let a struggling rookie torpedo the season with Romo on the bench even if it is that rookie that got them here. If Romo somehow get the job back and performs well, there's a good chance Jones will insist he continues on as the starter next year. Dumping Romo for next season only save a little cap room. Dumping him the following year is the big payoff. Jones may decide to give Romo one more full season to make a run at it knowing he has Dak if Romo gets hurt.

Except Tony will retire instead of going to Cleveland. With his health problems, Tony is going nowhere but to a contender.

Yep this guy gets it... not like he is some 26 year old QB and can afford to go to a loser. I swear I think some people need to step away from the video games

I could totally see this being the case and probably more inline with anything that's been posted. Great thought out logical post. Did you get your beer??? If not get this man a beer!

If your afraid of Tony ending up in the NFC East your saying he's better than Dak if that's the case Tony should be playing. You should play your best players period.

I think many people have been saying that. They've been trying to relay that without the emotional attachment. I don't think the coaching staff has gotten enough credit for the putting the rookie in the position he's been in to succeed. I think Romos biggest issue is that the coaching staff doesn't feel it's necessary to implement a game plan that puts the QB in a position to succeed because they have virtually the best OC on the field.

Agreed.

Depends on cap ramifications and what we can get.
Exactly. If I'm not mistaken, we get a larger cap relief if he's released, rather than traded. So unless we can get a high draft pick for him, which I doubt, it's arguably better for the team to release him.

I know. Dak is the starter at this moment. That's why I said next year it's open competiton and Romo/Dak should fight it out for it.
To what end? Tony's at the very end of his career anyway. If they're close enough for a camp battle, we may as well trade the guy who is at the end of his career anyway and get something for him.

By the end of the season were all going to want Romo for 2017. With the way things are going it's likely Prescott goes winless and we're one and done.

So Romo has given up competing for the starting job next season. Sheez. Really Romo, finally you have competition at qb and you won't fight for the job.

I'm sure Tony would stay put and compete for the starting QB job IF he's given that opportunity. The question is, will he be given that opportunity or will the staff just keep Dak as the starter next year?

So Sam freaking Bradford is worth a first rounder and Jerry won't put Romo on the trade block as a courtesy?

Please.

It is no wonder this franchise hasn't been to a super bowl in 21 years.

This is what they did with Ware, at least to some degree.
They didn't push hard for a trade to get every last cent they could.

My guess is if do move him, they'll work something for all sides

Some of us are cowboy fans, others are Romo fans

I have no patience with the latter

We cannot under any circumstances cut him 'because that is what he wants'

No I don't. And am curious where I gave that impression.

The Cowboys have to test the market, if some one is willing to give up a 5th round pick or better than you have to trade him.

I get Jerry wanting to be loyal, but this is a business and picks are leverage come draft day.

The team has to come first.

Folks need to stop bringing up Bradford. It's a completely different situation.

I disagree. A 5th round pick is not worth as much as the added cap relief of releasing him, IMO.
