This just goes to show you how stupid they are. If the #1 priority is to find a backup QB, then what they are really saying is that they know how fragile and old Romo is. And how there is a great possibility that he will get hurt and that they will need a backup.

So what they should really being saying is that their #1 priority will be Romo's successor.

That's a whole lot of overreading into some comments.

Because of a broken collar bone? I hope you're not in the medical profession.

who said anything about a collar bone? I don't think that Romo will ever play 16 games in a season. The older you get the more injuries and the harder it is to recover. Counting on Romo to go a full season injury free, is pure fantasy, let alone the next 5 years as Jerry said.

Wow, I'm glad you're not running this team.

I hope you don't think you're going to win Ms. USA one day either.

He's your only real shot. The guys in the draft will likely all suck. The young QBs in the NFL are woefully lacking compared to 10 years ago. Just a collection of JAGs.

Playing a "full season" is irrelevant. Could he hit his hand on a helmet while throwing and miss a game or two? Sure, any QB could for something similar. There is no reason to think he won't take the majority of the snaps last year. He has only missed one game in his career because of his chronic back condition, and pretty much every doctor who has commented on his collar bone has said it will be 100% by training camp.

And yes, if he does miss 1-2 games we still need a quality backup because that game could be the difference in home-field advantage (see 2014). Nobody doubts that.

I agree, between his collar bone, back or something else that could happen to an aging QB, I don't see him playing a complete season anymore either. They need to either draft or acquire someone that can eventually take over for Romo.

Bringing Manziel here would patently stupid and typical Jerry. Manziel will be on and off suspension the rest of his career. He's a tiny alcoholic headcase who refuses to watch film.

Perhaps Sam Bradford as a backup?

I do not want to spend a top pick on a backup anything. This team needs more Byron Jones and La'el Collins, not clipboard holders.

Ten months ago, Romo was brilliant in Green Bay after having the best year of any quarterback in Cowboys history.

Heal the bone, and let's go.

That's a whole lot of overreading into some comments.

Its based on other things he has said and his actions over the last 20 years. He did the same thing with Aikman. Was too much of a wussy to draft Aikmans replacement before he retired because he didnt want to offend Aikman. These are Jerry's own words. Until then it was all backup veteran journeymen. Then he got desperate and used a 3rd round pick on Quincy and handed him the keys to the franchise. Its happening all over again.

He has already said that he would be worried that drafting a young QB would offend Tony. The guy is out of his mind.

They saying the #1 priority is backup QB instead of saying a QB of the future is just more evidence they are still in the dumb and dumber mind frame. The Cowboys are a joke and its no mystery why. And Stephen apparently is just as clueless as his father. Sadly enough.

Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Jason Garrett. That has to be the worst management team in the history of sports. It really is a complete hose job being a Dallas Cowboys fan. I wish I could like another team. Really, I wish I could. This franchise and team is much easier to hate than love. No question.

Unless of course you enjoy embarrassment, mediocrity, disappointment.

The odds are against him. Would you count on Peyton Manning playing a full season? Josh McCown? Older guys miss time. Brady is the exception to the rule.

Unless I have 2-3 QBs in a real competition for the starting job, making them all adequate backups, and usually meaning none of them are franchise QB's like Romo, my number one quality I'm looking for in a backup QB is the ability to run. A backup QB can hit a wide open receiver for a long TD, but most backup QB's and few mediocre starters can run a 10-12 play drive that goes 70-80 yards for the score. That was our MO last season. We had lots of long drives, ate up lots of clock, and kept our defense off the field.

When your starter goes down, you have to be able to change your offense and play calling to fit a backup QB. That means you recognize they are going to be inconsistent and that defenses are going to blitz them, so you must take shots downfield and go for big chunks more often than with your starter.

Having a backup QB who is a real threat to run for first downs on broken plays or bootlegs and draws is more important to me than maybe having a 5% better pass completion percentage than a statue back there.

Peyton can barely feel or grip a football because his nerve is too damaged in his neck. Romo has a broken bone that he pushed to get back too early. He took a chance and lost. It'll heal.

The bigger worry is the back, but by most accounts, his type of back injury isn't as problematic as most if he just manages his throwing schedule during the week.

And yes, ALL quarterbacks can get hurt. Romo, Flacco, Luck, Hoyer, Brees, Peyton, Bradford, Palmer, Stanton, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Cutler, Tannehill....lots of guys have had significant injuries in the past 12 months.

That's the game. People act like it's only Romo.

Romo probably won't make it through another NFL season, so the QB they drafted with that top 5 pick would start.

Sorry but to me their is no QB in this Draft worth a top 5 pick if you take one that high he sure better be able to start sometime in his first year and I don't see one this year !
