Was Blake Bortles considered a Blue Chip when he went #1? He's looking pretty good right now.

There are always exceptions. But I won't take any QB in this draft over one of the top 5 defensive players. I would even take Tunsil over them

According to Mickey Spagnola who interviewed Stephen Jones today, The backup Qb position will be the teams #1 priority in the offseason.

Don't be shocked if the Cowboys start dangling draft picks to get a backup qb they really want.
I have a feeling Johnny Football will be a Cowboy for like a 3rd or 4 th rd pick or something. If Stephen says it's the #1 priority I don't think they will be taking a chance that someone gets released, That sounds like they will be making some phone calls and being very proactive in getting a quality backup.

Thoughts?

My first thought is that most of us on this board wanted to do this 3, 4 even FIVE years ago. Man, these guys are brutal. I thought they had it figured out after last season...I thought wrong.

What's it going to be then, eh?

You are harping on this in practically every thread the QB situation comes up.

What makes you think the top five defensive players are any more certain than anyone else?

Let's go back three years, since that is a fair time frame to evaluate players from a draft.

The top five defensive players picked: Dion Jordan, Ziggy Ansah, Barkevious Mingo, Dee Milliner, D.J. Hayden.

One player out of those five might be something less than a colossal bust.

Back up? How about Romos replacement. No time like the present.

Exactly. Go one step further. It's time to realize Romo staying healthy for a whole season is not that likely anymore. I'd rather use resources in the draft to find who can play here for a decade than some run of the mill backup. There's not even enough quality starters in this league, much less backups to go around. The difference between Cassel and the best backup available is marginal.

I cannot tell you how much it pains me to witness this organization flop around like a fish on dry land. This almost sounds like the 2nd coming of the "special teams draft"!

There were PLENTY of backup QBs who won games this year. The fact that only the Dallas backups could not win..... is NOT indicative that we have the WORST backup QBs in the NFL It is a sign that there is a much BIGGER problem.

A backup QB is a backup for a reason....if the backup was as good as Romo....then said backup would not be a backup! But when you cannot get a first down....which is something Weeden could not do in the first half against New England....or when you cannot score a TD...which is something that has happened often since we have switched to the backups...upgrading the talent at backup QB will not be enough. Because again....Weeden and Cassell were not the least talented backup QBs to play this year.

Putting a new coat of paint on an old car that is running poorly will NOT make the car run any better. But when the guys in charge of looking under the hood have no idea what they are looking at....they have no choice but to just re-paint the car AGAIN! Somehow, I doubt that ANY backup QB that won games this year in the NFL on other teams....would have fared much better than Weeden and Cassell.

I have said that I do not want our future QB to ever be subjected to Jasons offense...his playbook....his approach to offense....the tempo this offense operates at, or the lack of killer instinct this offense displays. I would just ride this out with Romo one more year....hope that he stays healthy enough to be available in Dec/Jan....then make our final run with this band. Then look to the future with a coach, QB, offensive playbook, and gameplan that attempts to score 40 points each week!

Of course there's a bigger problem.

A -15 turnover differential.

And based on what our offense and backup QBs have done to this date....do you really think they would have done that much more with extra possesions? 7 of our 8 1st half possesions against New England resulted in a 3 and out! So do you have the stomach to watch this offense anymore than we currently HAVE to?

The Cowboys are next to last in turnovers resulting in immediate TD's for the other team... which certainly affected the record.

In addition other turnovers... Like the one vs. GB at the beginning of the game was a massive swing in momentum.

If I am picking in the top 10 with this freaking awesome group of defensive players and an elite talent wide receiver I dang sure ain't picking a QB on a hope and a prayer.

Right you are. I mean, a good QB merely runs the offense. Nothing more to see here, lads.
