Gone are the days of happy talk and promotional babble from Stephen Jones during preseason. This guy has firmly taken the reins.

Last night, he flat threw down the gauntlet on the running backs during the broadcast.

In a nutshell, he said that every running back in the league would want to run behind this line, and that they have their eyes open for opportunities through trades and the waiver wire for a running back right now. He said that they are looking at this closely every day around the league.

After a long oration to that effect, he finally said he was confident in the guys that were here. Almost like he was catching himself mid-sentence.

I think he really is looking, but I also think he's trying to get the message across that these guys had better run like their careers are depending on it, because they are. He's telling Randle to shut up and play, McFadden to show up or else, and Dunbar that it's time to step for real.

My gut is, at least one of the three backs in Week 1 isn't here yet.

Word is Christine Michael is about to get cut... Just sayin.

They signed Dez at the 11th hour. If you try that and fail without the tag, odds are Dez walks as a UFA

They wanted to sign Dez last year and I *speculate* they wanted to franchise tag DeMarco this season. A lot of zoners would be PISSED having to pay 11 million for 1 year, but I wouldn't be too upset.

He'd turned 28 after the franchise tag season and there wouldn't be many teams lining up to sign him then. Not to mention, you'd be protecting yourself from getting into a long term deal with DeMarco.

IIRC, Michael wasn't on the Cowboys' draft board. I would think on that basis, if true, they wouldn't have any interest.

I expect them to sign someone off the waiver wire. No big names. I've got my eye on Joe Banyard Vikings. Minny has 4 good ones so somebody won't make it.

I was hoping we could get Matt Asiata. I think he would be perfect to pair up with Randle.

My problem with tagging Murray is they couldnt get the deal done with Bryant during the season. Once that fell through, you had no choice. To me you dont risk the possibility of Bryant entering UFA to tag Murray

I think there will be a trade, or Dallas is going to jump at a chance if a team cuts a decent one. One better then we have now. I think he says he is confident in the players on the current roster, well, becuase he almost has too. What els eis he going to say? We kinda screwed up, and now were getting a litttle worried?

No. I bet a dime to a dollar, there will be another RB on the roster that beats out Randle/DMC...

No doubt.

I just think they got delt a bad hand at HB. FA's they had some interest in like Spiller and Bush priced themselves out. The draft didnt go there way at the HB spot. Coleman didnt fall to them in the third. Davis and Allen didnt fall to them in the 4th. I dont think they are done though

You forgot to mention that he said they know the backs out there, and what they are are just "names". Names from players that they use to be, but are not now. So when I see fans go, go get CJ or Jackson, I don't think any of those types will be here.

Betting that unless something happens this coming week then we won't sign one until the cut to 53 happens. Everyone seems to want Johnson or Rice but have to remember Garrett is going to make that call and not sure either one fits what he wants plus the age of both work against them. I could see a trade possibly for someone like Robinson out of New Orleans but don't believe there will be a rush to get a guy that might pick up on waivers during the last cut.

Have to believe they like Gus Johnson more than most of us and it seems that his shoulder injury is nothing serious. If McFadden or Dunbar don't step up soon then Johnson will take one of their places.

The 3rd preseason game will be the tell tell sign on what might or possibly will happen, until then we are spinning the proverbial wheel, wanting someone that we ain't going to get.

Id like to see a split where one guy gets 50% of the carries. One guys gets 40% of the carries and one guy gets 10%. I really dont think we have that 40% guy in the roster, unless thats Randle. In which case we dont have that 55% guy

Just wish Jones will be proactive and sign Ray Rice before someone else beat us to the punch!! Seriously Rice could help this team and shouldn't cost us much in the process.

Yes Dallas would received some bad press from certain media outlets but winning silence the critics and this gamble could turn into a huge success story about 2nd chances and opportunities.

Rice to Cleveland is the rumor. He is never gonna overcome that left hook though.

McFragile gets the pass because:

1) Many Cowboys fans loved him coming out of college and badly wanted the team to find a way to draft him.

2) Still see the player in the youtube highlights and close their eyes to 7 years of disappointment

3) Don't want to face the truth that the player is a sprinter posing as a running back and simply does not have the body to handle the rigors of the NFL position

I see Stephen Jones' comments as putting the trio on notice. All of them have the opportunity here to run in a great offense, behind arguably the league's best line. They need to step up and seize that opportunity or the team will find someone else who will.

DENIAL is not only a river that flows through Egypt. Its something that happens here quite often here in this forum.

My gut feeling is 2 of the these 3 backs are gonna be gone before the season starts......

Randle
McFadden
Dunbar

Stephen Jones is right. We have Randle, McFadden and Dunbar all nursing injuries like they are Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch who have already proven enough to not have to earn their position. Meanwhile we just ran Gus Johnson to the ground in a preseason game when he just joined our team 2 weeks before camp.

Its very worrisome. However Jones needs to look at himself as being to blame also. He was Mr. Fiscal Responsibility with letting Demarco go to the Eagles which is OK if you have a real plan to replace him. Instead they brought in a player that is injured all the time and are now upset that he is what you knew he was. Don't blame the dog for giving you fleas. Blame yourself for laying down with a dog.

Quote of the month!!!!!
