Is this some how a new concept?
New to me.

Luckily, I was educated in a place that was run by intelligent people that didn't need this type of action.

Rednecks? I have no idea, I dont even know where temple is!!!

Morons...Yes. Completely.

You being paddled has nothing to do with all the great things you accomplished in your life!
Temple is between Killeen/Ft. Hood and Waco. You'll pass it up if you go down I-35 to Austin.

------------------------

As for paddling, I got "pops" back when I was in school. I had a smart mouth and it ALWAYS got me in trouble.

Teacher: "Is that you I hear talking?"

Me: "I'm not talking to myself."

The pops weren't what would stop me. Calling my Mom would.

If the policy is to consult with the parent first, then I have no problem with the school district's decision.

And it also did absolutely nothing to hinder the great things I did in life either. So I never have understood, and never will, people who act like a kid getting a spanking some how is a great harm to them. I was spanked as a child, when needed, and it didn't cause me to be some whinny little piss ant who blames everything in the world that goes wrong on the fact that I got my butt whipped when it needed to be whipped.

This response is ignorant beyond belief.

I agree. When I was in school they had to have your parents permission on file. Every single year your parents had to sign a piece of paper saying that they would allow you to be paddled for your actions and the school would always call prior to the paddling and inform the parents of why the student was going to recieve the punishment. It gave the parents the oppurtunity right then to reject the punishment if they didn't like it.

I have no issue with that at all.

Wife says we are moving to Temple..:laugh2:

Seriously though unless u haven't taught kids recently, you have no clue. Something has to be done. It's getting out of hand with the kids nowadays.

Wife says they call the parents on the spot in class from the cell phone and some of the parents just hang up, they don't even care that their kid is acting up. Some, few that is, get on their kids now. Some kids freak out and start crying if you tell them you're gonna call their parents but most just look at you and roll up their eyes.

My dad would have killed me..

Agreed. In this Dr. Phil age, spanking is a no-no. Actually, My GF watches Dr. Phil a lot and on one of the episodes he said that spanking a child lowers their IQ level by a certain # of points. Did he ever think that it's perhaps the unruly child and their lack of attention or care for anything, most likely including school, that is the cause of the lower IQ and not the spankings?

In my opinion spankings have their place. Nowadays, some unruly kids just don't care if you take their favorite toy away, or TV. It doesn't bother them in the slightest.

I think if spanking is overdone, the effects can be extremely negative, but I do believe it has its place. I wasn't the best kid when I was little and I received spankings, probably not enough of them. I know that a good spanking straightened me out for a while. Sticking my nose in the corner? Could care less.

Or..

B) The parent can come to the school and spank the child themselves.
C) Come take their disruptive child home for the day. No more free daycare for deadbeat parents who don't discipline their brats.

I'm sure 1 out of 100 or 1,000 whatever.. has some kind of learning disability and a spanking would cause damage, but what about the rest who are just unruly and ignored at home by ignorant parents?

Teachers have little to no authority over kids nowadays and are very very frustrated. This country is full of ignorant dead beats who expect the govt to pay for everything and it all starts with discipline or the lack thereof at home..

Hell in a handbasket...

That would be fine with me. Like I said, a call to my Mom ALWAYS worked. Like I said, I got pops a few times...and they hurt. I didn't like 'em, but I was always one to accept whatever punishment I got when I was being bad.

However, every teacher and principal knew all they had to do was call my Mom. Just hearing her voice on the other end of the line gave me the blues.

its cool that you are against spankings. that is your stance and your right to feel that way. that doesnt make you smarter, better, or more civilized than those of us who believe in spankings. it also doesnt make you less so.

i believe in spankings, but not just spankings. once the spankings are over, then there should be a discussion. the adult should explain to the child what the infraction was, that discipline must be taken, and ways the child can avoid such infractions in the future.
