Texas Rangers 2013 Thread

How about those last two games. Types of games that can turn your season around. Maybe the Angels is what this team needed. That and not playing the AL East and Cleveland.

Was listening to ESPN Radio earlier, on the way to pick up some lunch and I heard them say that it's possible that even if A-Rod gets suspended, the Rangers might still owe him over 40 million. Is this possible?

Yes, deferred money from his original contract. To be paid from 2016-2025.

5 in a row for the Rangers.
Rumors of their demise was indeed premature!

Bad night for the Rangers.

Lose to Oakland, the newly acquired Garza acts like a jerk and their leading HR hitter is going to be suspended for the rest of the season.

The playoffs look like a longshot.

I don't agree.
They have one 6 of 7.
More pitching help is on the way and the schedule gets much, much easier this month.

The still have a chance.

But losing Cruz is huge.

And lets be honest, the Rangers are only 9 games over .500 and 5 of those 9 games over are due to the having the Astros in the division.

It's a good team, but not a very good team.

They also had Grimm and Tepesch combine for 33 starts, plus another 8 from Lindblom/Wolf...

Only 2 games back in the AL West (and a .5 game lead in the Wild Card) with a pretty favorable schedule for the next month.

Yep, I really like our mojo right now. I'll be there to support them when they play the Astros on Friday!

Still your take Mike?

I think they still have a tough row to hoe without Cruz.

Do they have a shot? You bet. But still a challenge.

I agree.
But that schedule is very favorable and with the very strong pitching and an adjusted running offense, I think they make it to the post season.
It helps that Andrus' bat finally came around as well. he was putrid in thye 1st half.

Rangers land Alex Rios from White Sox
By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com | 8/9/2013 2:09 P.M. ET

HOUSTON -- The Rangers have acquired outfielder Alex Rios and cash considerations for either a player to be named later or cash considerations. According to a source, the player is expected to be infielder Leury Garcia. The deal came together about 10 minutes before the Rangers claim on Rios was to expire.

Even without the addition of Rios (I understand you wrote this well before we acquired him), things were still looking pretty good for the Rangers.

--Of the 47 remaining games, 31 are against teams under .500 (17 against he Astros and Angels who we've owned so far.)
--The toughest test, the Pirates, we have at home
--6 left against the A's
--On the road for KC and TB.

I think the best thing is that we end the season on a 7 game home stand against the Astros and Angels.

Update..8/11

Rangers just won their 7th in a row and 12th of 13!

They are currently alone in 1st place and looking strong.

Go Rangers

Darvish tomorrow so that should make it 8 in a row
