I'll give a 1st right now for Bosa.

Note, Elliott's contract has both the offset provision and the deferred signing bonus provision. Do we know what the Cowboys stance is on those provisions?

That's incorrect. It is not standard to defer bonuses. Nor is offset language standard. That's something a small handful of teams try to shove down player's throats.

Then the Cowboys are one of those teams.

They can't trade him this season.
And then, if he goes unsigned, he re-enters the draft.

I know, wishful thinking for sure. Especially w everything so clear cut -- just playing on the Jerry can get anyone meme :)

It is standard for all SD contracts and that is all that matters.......Bosa was picked by SD and that is who he has to deal with.....he has chosen to sit out, which is his right, but he is making a mountain out of a molehill.......bottom line he was offered a fully guaranteed 4yr/26m contract with 18m of that paid by March 2017 and 10m upfront.......boo-hoo

If we drafted him he would've been signed.

Nobody wants to deal with the Chargers.

He'll eventually cave though because if he takes off a year he'll fall to mid 1st round and lose a lot more money.
Yeah, I don't know why anyone thinks it would be a problem here. Jerry would have signed him to an even more team-friendly deal, and Bosa would have provided the pen. Jerry would have gotten it done.

It would be funny if Bosa re-entered the draft next year, and the Chargers trolled him by drafting him in the 2nd round...

No we are not.

Lots of teams require offsets. No one requires both offsets and deferred bonus. Except the Chargers. And look how that works out

The contract guys around here can probably clarify.
I think the deadline passed for them to trade his rights.
But the regular NFL trade deadline is later this year, so maybe there's a point where they can do a sign and trade. I kind of doubt it though. I think he'd have to re0enter the draft at this point.
But yes, next year's first would have been fine with me. I'm assuming that first will be in the 20s or so.

Ezekiel Elliott has both provisions in his contract per ESPN.

FWIW, so does Carson Wentz.

Bottom line. All contracts are fully guaranteed.

Also bottom line. No one is asking Wentz or Elliot to defer the 16-18 mill SB that they got. Defer 8 mill of your bonus? For 9 months?

The Chargers need to trade out of the top of the round if they don't have the money.

So they both have bonuses deferred until March 2017? Please give a link because I don't see that anywhere.

All contracts are not fully guaranteed at all and those guys did get deferments so that is 0-2

This guy is something else. The chargers ocfered him a contract that would given him the 2nd most cash yr one amongst rookies. And he rejected. This guy is a idiot.

Elway refused the Colts when they drafted him and of course Eli did the same in San Diego

Bosa cannot be traded

He can sign with SD or go back into the draft next year, that is it

We would have never been in this situation if we drafted Bosa. Say what you will about Jerry, but the guy is a closer. No doubt in my mind he would have gotten the deal done.

That ship sailed on the league, correct (the right for SD to trade Bosa)? Earlier this month?

Near the end of this article. States that Wentz and Elliott have both provisions in this contract. This was actually the first time since 2012, that one of the 2nd, 3rd or 4th picks had both provisions in their contract.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...-diego-chargers-mess-holdout-contract-dispute

For instance, none of the 12 players selected with the second, third or fourth picks in the 2012-15 drafts agreed to deals that included offsets and deferments. However, this year, the picks immediately before and after Bosa -- Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz at No. 2, and running back Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4 -- signed deals with both provisions. Not surprisingly, the Chargers are arguing that Bosa's contract should feature that same framework.

There is nothing in the CBA that says a player must agree to offsets or deferments, yet players are willingly doing such deals. Each time they do, it's more leverage and a bigger hammer for teams to swing in negotiations.
