The main purpose of a commissioner is to issue punishments and manage disputes. That is literally his job. The owners are too biased and are often involved.

I'm not suggesting owners do this job

I am saying Goodell is not doing this function well at all

Summary of the above poll of 100 NFL players

  • Goodell SHOULD NOT BE sole arbiter in cases.
  • Brady's suspension is over twice what it should be.
  • The Patriots cheated, but it's not that big a deal with players...intent to injure is much more serious.
  • Two out of three players think other teams also tamper with footballs like the Patriots.
  • Nearly one out of three players think there are cheaters on their own team.
you brady homers are truly comical

Goodell is taking the flack for the owners and that is what they want.

That is one thing some of our NE fans have gotten right.

The NFL would rather get overturned in Federal Court and appear to be tough on DV and drugs than repeat the Ray Rice PR disaster. Goodell was actually following the CBA when he gave Rice 2 games, but after the video came out he looked soft and the owners said never again.

Congress was sending messages that they would not put up with being lenient on DV or child abusers. He went over the top on Hardy with the 10 games but he didn't care. If he gets slapped around in Fed Court no big deal. They are defending wife beaters and cheaters.

I find it funny that all the Patriot fans thought he would just roll over for Brady because Kraft dropped the team's appeal. There are 31 other owners that are tired of the Pats tricks and would remove Goodell in a heartbeat if they felt he gave Kraft some quid pro qou. Kraft couldn't believe either and he threw a tantrum that won't be forgotten by the other owners.

If the NFLPA thinks they can stand up to the League or Goodell they need to do much better than DSmith.

the pats cheated someday when one of the guys who was involved in this needs the cash he will come out with a tell all book. they also cheated in spy gate and got caught once you go around the rules no matter how minor the next time it comes easier. I personally think if the nfl don't make and hold to a stand on this it will reflect badly on them. you have to stand for something.

It's real easy to say there is no evidence when you destroy it and the other 2 conspirators take the blame and stay quiet.

Why were they fired if they didn't do anything? Why aren't they in court demanding justice?

The evidence they do have is pretty strong.
First, all of the NE balls were under inflated when tested.
Second they have video of the ball boy illegally taking the bag of early and unsupervised into the bathroom.
Third he calls himself the "Deflator" and demanded free, signed balls and sneakers from Brady.
Lastly there were several texts that were recovered before the phone was destroyed that showed a lot of conspiring.

Again. Only facts.

Two employees were fired for their involvement. Yet, the pats claim they did nothing wrong. No one in their organization did anything wrong.

It's simply a matter of "did you see Tom Brady deflate the balls? Did you hear tom and Belichick talk to employees about defeating balls.

Of course we did not. So they must be innocent. Except that they destroyed evidence. There is no way that Belichick didn't know about it. He supplies the air that these players breath. Everything is in his view.

SPYGATE evidence was destroyed by the nfl.

No matter how you slice it.

I saw this paragraph in an article about the case.
Ahhh.... I as a fan care as from the test results on the footballs and the information in the Wells report - BRADY CHEATED!!!!!

The NFL’s actions are equally questionable, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a key difference: No one really cares what Roger Goodell and the NFL front office do. Sure, people say they do but it’s like in an election when voters say they’re evaluating foreign policy and school testing but are really voting whichever way Jon Stewart or Rush Limbaugh told them to. In reality, the ratings for Super Bowl 50 isn’t going to rise or fall based on what happens in that court room. The NFL is teflon. If it made it through the horrors of last year with Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson, some ginned up controversy like this is nothing.

There are all kinds of holes in that survey. If players consider "holding" as cheating, then 100% of the teams cheat, yet only 21% of the respondents think players on their own team cheat. This was obviously not a scientific poll (nor was it meant to be, I imagine), so to draw any conclusions from it one way or the other is laughable. JMO

Just more attempts to distract from what happened. Brady did deflate the footballs and lied about it to the investigators. What some players may think of his length of punishment should be and who should dole out the punishment does not make him innocent.

The fact is that the Patriots' footballs were underinflated. The league has evidence showing McNally texting Jastremski who worked as a go-between for Brady discussing deflating footballs and Brady will pay him to do so and that Brady has asked him to deflate the footballs in the past and paid him for doing so in the past. Then they found the video evidence that shows exactly when and how McNally was able to pull this off.

I also think that the players polled would like to know the numbers behind the fumble rates of the Patriots and how they dropped off the face of the earth right when the new rule about handling your own footballs existed. In particular, Brady's fumble per sack rate dropped off incredibly, especially when compared to QB's with similar experience (games started) and fumble rate per sack. Because if they knew about that, something would tell me that they would think it was a larger benefit to Brady and the Patriots than what they think.

I would seem to me these two guys were fired for discussing sabotaging the Patriots' game balls and showing a considerable amount of disrespect for the team's star quarterback. They certainly could answer a bunch of questions if they were willing to come forward. On the other hand, Brady has said repeatedly he never told anyone at any time to adjust the air pressure in footballs, knowing they are out there and could decide to meet with a reporter and tell the truth at any time. They could certainly sell their story to the National Enquirer. I suppose it is possible they signed a non-disclosure agreement when they got their jobs and can't talk because of it. I signed one of those with one of my employers, and it was comprehensive, to say the least.

.

Can you link me to that information?

I've seen a lot of people say the balls were not deflated (as the initial reports stated) or that physics explains any changes. I hadn't heard about texts like those. People keep pointing to John Dowd (who did the Pete Rose case I guess) and a site he started (deflategatefacts.com) saying the NFL has really botched this whole thing and there is no real evidence of anything. I've only done a cursory look at the site, so I don't know exactly what's on there, though it did seem like an odd thing for someone to create if they didn't have some sort of vested interest. It's why I asked posted previously asking if he was a Pats fan or had something against Goodell or the NFL for some reason.

The lower limit is 12.5psi all of the NE balls were well below that limit and cannot be explained by the weather or the Ideal Gas Law. None of the tested INDY showed the levels of deflation that NE showed.

Remember that JIm "the Deflator" McNally did this in the bathroom in under 2 minutes, so all the balls were not deflated equally.

Some of you will be open to this scenario - others will let their feelings get in the way of this potential reality. So here it is:

  • In this fall's playoffs, it's found the Cowboys' are guilty of some technicality.
  • It should be a fine. Outside chance it could be a suspension, but for a regular season game next year. There has never been a suspension during a NFL playoff game.
  • It concerns a key player (i.e. Romo, Witten.) To keep it simple, it's Romo.
  • Goodell has been consistently inconsistent in his penalities, but tends towards being harsh, particularly on BountyGate.
So do you come forward and risk Goodell give a felony for a traffic-type violation (Romo suspended for the playoffs), or do you say nothing?

Some of you will say Dallas would never be in a situation like this. I say if it's not already happened, it will.

I say this is about the patriots.
The patriots did this to themselves.

By your logic, only the pats have been, continue to be.... Will forever be...Sanctioned for cheating.

And you'd be wrong. Weren't you leaving? Like after LAST season?
