Lawrence has never been a elite pass rusher so if that's why they paid him then they failed.Regarding Lawrence, he put up 25 sacks in 2 seasons and was paid a healthy extension for being an 'elite' pass rusher. Since his extension, he has put up 11.5 sacks in 2 seasons while also seeing his QB hits drop from 49 in the 2 seasons before his extension to 26 in the 2 seasons after his extension and his tackles for loss drop from 29 the 2 seasons before the extension to 21 in the 2 seasons after his extension. Also of note is that in 2018 (before his extension) DLaw had 42 QB pressures yet after his extension he registered 29 QB pressures in 2019 and 26 QB pressures in 2020. Lastly, his QB hurries went from 20 in 2018 (before his extension) to 13 in 2019 and 14 in 2020.
The point I am making is that DLaw was paid as an 'elite' pass rusher and after his extension the pass rusher stats saw a decrease pretty much across the board.
But like I asked earlier, who gets paid and gets better as they get older? In theNFL?
