The Jared Gaither Thread **Merged**

Possibly. Their secondary is in shambles however, and if they want to make the playoffs this year they need to get some help there. There are some decent OL prospects in the 2-3 rounds so i'd expect them to take a legit 1st round CB/S prospect before a guard.

Since when do college secondary players step right in and play for an NFL team. There are exceptions but generally, no.

Profootballfocus is a bunch of amateurs watching network broadcasts. Their stats deviate greatly from STATS, who are the professionals, by quite an argument. Quoting them as if it makes a point is worthless. Quoting the overall ratings is pure comedy.

Ok, here are your stats from "STATS" from the last 2 years...

I bring out factual stats and those get tossed out the window.

Sorry I didn't mark down every snap for those guys.
Who said I tossed em out the window? You don't know where they came from, you are taking someone else's word for it. All I'm saying is there are logical arguments to be made against numbers telling the whole story, especially when the numbers are extremely subjective. It's not as simple as saying a RB gets a yard here, or a QB throws a touchdown there. It's trying to define sacks allowed, QB hits and pressures, when there are a lot more things that go into a sack than it either did or didn't happen.

Let's say that a CB came untouched on a blitz from Romo's blindside while Flo was blocking the DE. Who does that go to? Do you know? Can you grasp the idea that the "numbers" may not be totally objective?

We led the league in 2 TE sets. AKA more help for Flo
Another ridiculous blanket statement with nothing to back it up.

Clady is 23 too? Gah. He might be the best in the league already.

Pretty ironic coming from one who agrees with theo's use of subjective stats to validate Ken Hamlin.

So Free gave up one sack all of last year? You see that and think that we should trade away our top pick because hes not LT material. Thats funny. Really funny.

Oh and Columbo had the same rate of sacks as Gaither too. I'll take Free, Columbo, $10 million and a first rounder.

So the moral of the story, which some of us already know/knew, is that Gaither is absolutely not a jag but a young offensive tackle who has shown he can play at a high level and most likely would be an upgrade over Flo.

Get it done Jerry!

I like Free but you can't really judge the sack number with only 7 starts. I hope he turns into our LT but let's let him start 16 games then we can compare him "stat" wise to others that have.

FuzzyLumpkins;3302848 said:
Why not? Thats like 400+ snaps. Some of it against the best of the best like Allen.
Because the numbers would most definately change from 7 starts to 16. And he played well but they also gave him help.

You realize that 1 sack in 7 games is better than what Gaither put up and 6.5 sacks in 25 games is just about the same amount? No one is arguing that he isn't good but when his stats mirror Columbo's thats pretty telling.

Past performance is the best indicator of future performance. If someone has a low sack number in a certain set IT DOES NOT FOLLOW that he will have a high sack number the next. Sure he had help and if you double his sack total hes tied with Gaither.

What does it matter? It'll get tossed out the window.

Here you go.

Just get it over with.

To give an example if you have set of [ 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 0] you do not conclude that the next set is going to be [1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2, 1].

I don't care if Free is Tony Boselli we need to cut Flo and we can't just give Free the job and let our season ride on him.

Gaither is just a much better prospect that gets it done on the field and is still a baby in NFL years.

Gaither is not a much better prospect. He gives up sacks at a higher rate and Free's combine measurements are virtually the same as Gaither's from the much more prospect friendly pro day.

Free also doesn't have a lazy streak nor injury history.

Ryan Clady gives up sacks at a higher rate and guess what? He isn't better than Ryan Clady and guess what else? He isn't better than Gaither either.

Clady made the Allpro team and probowl. What did Gaither get? Oh yeah a first round tender. The only reason he gets all the hype is he is the best OT in a horrible FA class.

Want to make a bet we never even try and get Gaither?
