Well when you start with Pass on 1st down and don't get yards it tough to go back to the run on 2nd and 10 or 3rd and long etc.

Wow. I guess that just about settles that argument, doesn't it? Good post, and a useful breakdown by Vela. Thread closed? Or do we still want to blame Garrett some more?

Look up Idgit..:lmao:

Uh you can't pass 47 times in a game when the O-line is not protecting your qb either...

Exactly!

Yesterday, the pass WAS NOT working. We'd get sacked and put the team in a hole or even turn the ball over. The negatives from a poor running play are a lot less severe than the negatives of free blitzers and defensive linemen running wild over your frachise QB.

When something does not work, you try something else. ....So logically, when the passing game SO CLEARLY WAS NOT WORKING (but rather, hurting the team!) one should try something that was...even though the running game wasn't perfect, it was still the Cowboys BEST CHANCE and most likely way to make something happen.

Yes, but you're making the poster's point:
First Half
  • Series 3-Romo is sacked on 2nd down.
  • Series 5-Williams fumbles after pass on 1st down.
  • Series 6-Sacked on 1st down.
Second Half

  • Series 1-Sacked on 1st down.
  • Series 2-After Choice runs for 11 yds., they misfire on 2 passing plays.
  • Series 3-Sacked on 2nd down.
It doesn't matter if the other team knows you're probably going to run on first & second downs. You run anyway. Especially, after getting your freaking QBs' head knocked off in the first half on passing plays. When your RBs are averaging 4.1 yards per rush, and your pass protection is shoddy, you run early & often.

The poster is also right about the OL. When you're as big & strong as our line is, & you ask them to play finesse ball, you emasculate them. Finesse is just another word for a woman's sexual organ to them. A "Finesse" player is just another way of saying a pu**y. Order your guys to hit someone in the mouth hard & often, & watch their eyes light up.

Great coaches take the strengths of their players & call plays to maximize them. JG is NOT doing that.

Best post in thread next to the OP...:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

??? I would think appreciation for Jim Zorn would be something all Cowboys fans could get behind. If you're not Zorny, my Blue and Silver friend, you're too old.

Defending a horrible OC and having a just as pathetic play caller in your avy is pretty funny..:lmao:

This is a good post. The problem is, if running on 1st down puts you in second and long--which is what that original summary indicated--with a team that's not stopping the blitz anyway, it doesn't help you convert, either. Either way, the solution is to make teams pay a heavy price for blitzing, which doesn't come out of the running game.

Wow. That's where you were going? Zorn isn't a playcaller, and Garrett isn't horrible, so that was quite a reach.

Either way, I'm penalizing you for unsportsmanlike overuse of the lmao smiley when you're not saying anything either remotely or intentionally funny. Mods, please revoke his smiley privileges for the next 24 hours. Thanks.

It seems to me that we should be running the ball more. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night so that might have something to do with this epiphany. :D (like many of you aren't already thinking it)

What happened to that three headed monster that we all grew to know and love early on in the season? This may simply be a speed bump in the road to success or we may have just been exposed. I tend to believe the speed bump theory. Any thoughts on the lack of reliance on the run? The Green Bay offense possessed the ball for two thirds of the game. Ouch!

Haven't you heard we didn't run the ball because the run was shot down the O line was terrible and we weren't in a rushing situation because Romo got sacked.

You realize that almost half of those plays came in the last 10 minutes or so of the game right? We had only about 30 plays prior to Romo's fumble, so it wasn't so lopsided. But after we were down 17-0, it was pretty strictly pass, and for good reason.

The reason we had so few runs is because we went 3 and out for over 2 full quarters.

So then it doesn't seem to any of you as though we may have abandoned the run a little too early in the game?

Well, we haven't exactly been running the ball very well lately. Deion pointed this out a couple of weeks ago. It was one of his main concerns about the Cowboys going forward. Running game has not been great. We can debate if this is because the OL has been sucking or because Garrett refused to allow the run game time to establish itself, but there have been a lot of plays where our backs are getting thrown for a loss in the backfield by an unblocked defender.

Lol nope, I have my own thread about that, I'm not going to thread-jack.

All I'm going to say is if you actually watched the game, you'd realize why the rushing numbers are so low. But yes, in short I dont think any of you who are whining about running the ball know what you're talking about.

No, because we just didnt have the ball that much.

And after the first series, I only recall 2 running plays that gained quality yardage. Its tough to keep running if you get stoned for a loss or no gain on first down.

I watched the game and their was no commitment to the run after the 1st drive. why not try a screen to Felix to slow down the Packers pass rush?

We don't run the ball, we have a shotgun drawand razorback off tackle. Running the ball to means we line up in a power I or single back and hit a hole between a guard or tackle. Why they could even pitch it to the outside every once in a while.

Would you agree that there's something to be said for being determined to stick with it even when it appears as though it's just not your day? Take it from an olineman, those guys up front absolutely love to run block versus the alternative. We could have had some breakthroughs yesterday. Just a thought.
