so how do you run a non vanilla complex offense with Weeden and Williams as your star duo? add to it a limited Randle.. devise a complex game plan for me son!!!!

Watch the Saints last night..

They had a QB who couldn't throw downfield but ran different plays and routes that confused our defense or simply just got the ball in their guys hands.

The wheel route to CJ Spiller to end the game is just the cherry on top. Play design...

Not heave it up to Williams over and over in hopes that he can win his 1 on 1 battle.. Get a guy open with scheme like New Orleans did.

well, hasn't Brady single handedly make billichicks career? same with Rodgers & Favre in GB making coaches careers. same with Rothlisberger making Tomlin's career. its funny how when star QBs go down, the teams don't perform as well...hmmm, not sure why...

We've seen New England have success with Cassell and we've seen Green Bay have success with Matt Flynn.

You need the offensive line playing like one of the most dominate in NFL history for the offense to work it seems. Fair enough, seems doable every season

this was two years ago prior to linehan and martin. callhan was the OC, the offense sputtered and garrett inserted himself in the process mid season and the offense picked up. Callhan is not an OC, given nobody offered him the position. he is a good OL coach, that's where he excels. and I don't deny that it looks like we miss callahan as the OL coach.

is this the same Callahan who was given the offensive control two years ago, only to see the offense regress so badly that garrett had to insert him self in the process and all of a sudden the offense picked up. the same Callahan who was criticized for his offensive play calling by multiple NFL analysts. Callahan is a good OL coach. the OL is missing him. that's it. is he a key member of the coaching staff? as long as you say OL, then yes.

This was the same offensive coach that introduced the drag route for Dez from the slot that became the staple play for us that year and helped us put up around 50 points against Denver and the Cowboys started using more motion. Garrett hadn't taken away anything by then.

That being said, it's already been stated by Jerry that Garrett was interfering with Callahan that season and Garrett was effectively the OC, meaning Garrett didn't allow Callahan to do his job. And as Jerry also said, Callahan's offense was a different offense than Garrett, so it's clear that their was different philosophies between the two, and Garrett didn't want to let go, and Jerry, in order to keep the same system, still kept Garrett away and hired Linehan.

We aren't talking about Callahan the HC, we are talking about Callahan as having a strong roll in offense, the same Callahan who was OC when the Raiders went to the SB and had a great RG, the same Callahan who was the line coach when Mark Sanchez was QB'ing the Jets into the play-offs and haven't recovered since he left.

And the same Callahan that apparently has the Commanders looking disciplined in the OL and running game and controlling TOP, despite the fact that the whole off-season was a soap opera.

Who brought Weeden here? If Garrett didn't think Weeden can win, then move on. The team looked sloppy, gave up points and once again lost in historic fashion (fastest OT win) which is the hall mark for Garrett since he's been here.
yes, lets get rid of weeden. that's where the GM who is responsible for players has to be questioned as well. with that said, how many teams are in good shape with their back up position. I bet its very few and some of them have drafted to get ready for replacement....it sucks for us. a lot of backup QBs may look good in practice, but when live bullets fly is when you find out what you got. on the surface getting weeden looked good on paper. a first round pick. former starter on a crappy team...but now we know why....

is that the same cassell that went 11-5 and missed the playoffs because in a weak year they couldn't win their division.... and btw, that's the problem, the evaluation of our back up QB position. in the past when we had Aikman, some of our backups were Rodney Peete, who delivered when asked and at other times we wafled like Johnson.... weeden seems similar. you can wish as much as you want, but you can't make a pile of shiet into filet mignon by putting a parsely next to it.

that's the difference. they had Spiller a top 10 pick as their back up RB. we lost dunbar who made similar plays in previous games, in the middle of the game. they had their WRs, we lost butler who we picked up two weeks ago in the middle of the game. take snead away, what would they do? you can wish all you want and design all you want, its going to take players to carry it. same offense who has been top 10 and top 5 when we had players or semblance of a team. Williams who has shown he is highly limited and when given opportunities has dropped the ball in critical times. street who has shown he needs to be cut. escobar who as much as I wanted him and thought he would succeed has been disappointing. hanna who now has shown he is no more than a blocking TE.

no, same callahan who was the OC for cowboys until he lost his role and then we brought in linehan and callahan demoted to an OL coach. that callahan who with romo, dez and murray couldn't do crap. with the offense sputtering.

The design of the play got Spiller open.. Not him being a top 10 pick.

You know what got T.Will open? Him beating his guy 1 on 1.. Not the design of the play.

That's the difference in what we do vs a real coach like Sean Payton. We just want to outman everyone.. Well... When you're hurting a bit it helps to have coaches that are actually using their brains and not just hoping a player can make a play.

3rd and 9 last night.. Weeden gets sacked.. Fans crying about Weeden in the chat..

Then they show the endzone angle of the play.

We need 9 yards.. Our receivers our running 20 yard routes downfield with their back turned and the 1 guy who ran a short route ran it for 6 yards.

That's the kind of crap im sick of.

Romo isn't here to run around for 5 seconds and fix a crap playcall.

JG was clearly out coached yet again. Last week it was no adjustments to what Atlanta changed.

This week it was 12 men on the field, missed time out when needed and not adjusting to what NO had going. Even Jerry knows that...

"I thought that was a well-designed play at the end," Jones said. "They brought [Spiller] right in behind our rookie ... and that was vintage Sean Payton, and I think some pretty astute coaching to get that play in there."

Game planning for a Dallas game has to be like a week off for opposing teams. They do the same thing each week and hope they can out power/execute the other team.

For the 2nd week in a row, I will point out that the coaching staff with the better players is often the staff, which makes the better adjustments. The Cowboys, with their depleted roster are trying adjustments. They just don't have the weapons to make those decisions look like they are causing the opponents much distress.

I cant stress the above enough. Having skimmed the GDT and the ensuing melodramatic BS that follows any loss (or ugly win for that matter) - I would like to issue a challenge. Learn football. Like actually learn it. Not just know the rules a little and kinda understand positions. Get the schemes. Get educated on the X's and O's. You spend a LOT of time here reading about your Cowboys. You watch 6+ hours of football a week. Why not learn in more depth?

The simple truth is this: A coach can only hide so many flaws on his team. Its easy to adjust or mask a few things. You can send the occasional blitz when you have bad DEs. You can use a slot WR in lieu of a poor RB. What you CAN NOT do is scheme or adjust your way out of not having any talent. You polish a dog turd, its still a piece of crap.

You're fooling yourself and your're acting like we never saw Weeden. He's been here 2 years and been through 2 camps. This idea that guys like Weeden and DMac can become something or do something they've never done in their careers is just fantasy. In addition, this stuff just doesn't manifest itself overnight and it's troubling that our coaches and/or talent evaluators thought that Weeden was good enough. It's either Weeden ran with a limitted game plan or the coaches allowed him the ability to throw deep but he wouldn't (until last night). Either way, it says a lot about Weeden, our coaching staff or both.

but it takes talent and ability to make those plays. Dunbar did in previous games and we took full advantage. he made big passing plays, where randle and McFadden are not able. if a player can't execute then I don't care if its the best damn designed play in the world. it won't work. you can click your heels and wish you were back in Kansas, but Williams can't pull the same plays as dez..... and yes it takes talent to pull it off.

3rd and 9 last night.. Weeden gets sacked.. Fans crying about Weeden in the chat..

Romo isn't here to run around for 5 seconds and fix a crap playcall.

I am also sick of players heads stuck up their buts and can't execute simple plays. like street not having field awareness and his feet were out of bounce on a catch. so you want to tell me the coaches didn't teach him that in practice and don't work on that stuff? on game day it comes down to execution. you want to tell me the coaches don;'t talk to players about running the routes deep enough to get first downs, instead some of them stop at 6 yards. right now our talent is asked to do stuff they are not able to do.

what we forget in the middle of argument because everyone wants to just hate garrett and find faults and with that they focus on offense only, is the crappy play of defense. what's their excuse? they have sucked three weeks in a row in the second half and unable to make crucial stops. with 30 seconds on the clock they couldn't make a simple stop and create any pressure on Brees and they marched down the field.....that's not play design. defense has to make plays against offensive play designs. when the defense can't make tackles, takes wrong angles and over runs plays, then CJ spiller looks great. correct play recognition could have stopped that Spiller play easily. we didn't ad now we argue the play design was awesome and creative. it was a simple play to stop. it wasn't that complicated.

our defense has yet to make a crucial stop in the 4th quarter. make one crucial 3rd down stop. our defense in the 4th quarter has been down right awful. where is the defensive culpability and accountability? we can't blame all of this on offense. we scored 28 one week. 20 the other and that should be good enough to win. GB scored 17 points against SF. they won? why because their defense gave up 3!!!!

I agree. I blame our talent evaluation and GM, Coaches, Scouts for this. if they knew Weeden sucks, then why not find somebody else. Is the game plan limited? of course it is. you can't ask weeden to do things he is unable to do. I as obvius from atlanta game that he is culpable in not seeing the plays and making stupid decisions....does that weigh on coaches minds? yes. any coach who says it doesn't, they are lying through their teeth. so lets not be childish......you don't think mike tomlin had a different game plan for Vick?

last night weeden did throw deep because he heard the criticism. even in the Atlanta game there were deep throws, but he never even looked. That's on weeden. in last nights game, when he did go deep in the first half it was obvious he was looking for the WR to either be freaking wide open or he would over throw. in the 2nd half he dared a little in the 4th because it was desperation time.....

my criticism of the coaching last night was about time outs that should have been called and player situational awarenss. I am extremely disappointed in the defense. they seem to regress as the game goes on. we scord 28 the week before, normally with a crippled offense with 3 starters, 3 key starters out, it should be enough. we scord 20 points last night and on the road at that and yet, NO went through the defense like hot knife through butter. brees had all kinds o time. no pressure. give any QB and receiver that much time and they will shred you.

Ok, who?

There are 32 NFL teams and there aren't 32 quality starters. If you think you're going to find a better than avg starter or even backup like you're suggesting then that's true optimism.

You rarely get the chance to find that someone. Generally you take someone you think you can do something with and try to get it up to decent speed.

Most teams are looking to hold on for dear life for a few games when they lose their starter. We lost ours for 1/2 a year.

If the defense gets better, as I think it will with a pass rush, then maybe we can win some games with Weeden. Compared to Romo he sucks. But then so does at least 2/3rds of the starting QBs in the league. For a backup he's not good for sure but nothing like many here think....relative to other backup QBs in the league. Give him a defense and he may be adequate to keep us in the hunt.

see ,my other posts. hasn't billicheck run the coat tail of Brady? he won nothing without him and the one year he got injured he missed the playoffs.

you can't tell me you take Rodgers out of GB and they are the same team!!!!

We took Aikman away and cowboys collapsed mightly.... and garrett hadn't do anything with that....

Giants just handed Eli a huge extension? why its all about the QB

Rothlisberger has been Tomlinson's savior...he goes down and stellers struggle...oh my god Tomlinson sucks!!!

Well I can see your a garrett fan and defender, and that is fine, some like him he can do no wrong, and some dont like him and think he does do wrong.
It is just opinions, he is and will be dallas HC for good while, I know he isnt going anywhere no matter what any of us think.

I think, could be wrong but when brady was out cassell led the patriots to the playoffs.
When rodgers was out in 2013 and 2014 they had a good backup that could win some games.
The star QB is important, and a team cannot be as good without him, but they also should still be able to play decent and win a few games
without him.
I agree Dallas is without 2 star players, and now dunbar, they dont have murray but that is no big deal since many say he was just a bum anyway.

The problem is who they had as backups, and why they are so poorly coached up, and why the coaches cant be more innovative and
change some things to get the most out of who they have!
They need to be bolder, more innovative and smarter as coaches when their stars are out.
Instead dallas coaches , JG included just got less bold, less smart, and no innovation, and more conservative.
That is why fans are grumbling about the coaching.
