The Penn State Aftermath Thread *Penalty Post #403*

According to this article it seems like the Emmert is looking to make an example and really lay down some things.

Mark Emmert's swift, bold action against Penn State might mark a new era in NCAA enforcement

Across his 20 months as NCAA president, the frustration continued to mount for Mark Emmert, multiple sources close to him say. The job, he's found, is as much spokesman as statesman. Too little power. Too much blame.

Emmert saw basic initiatives such as providing athletes with a $2,000 stipend to cover the cost of living stall out in the NCAA system of committees and votes. He's watched seemingly simple infractions cases, such as the one involving University of Oregon football, drag on.

Based on what is being said on Mike and Mike this morning, Happy Valley won't be for a long time here in a few minutes.

Here we go...

1. $60M fine  to be used to support child abuse awareness programs
2. Postseason ban of 4 years
3. Loss of 10 scholarships for 4 years, immediate transfer rights for any football player who is eligible, Scholarships retained for those who earned them even if they don't play football (?)
4. 1998-2011 victories vacated
5. 5-year probationary period for athletic department
6. May impose sanctions on individuals, etc.

$60 Million fine, 4 year bowl ban, scholarships reduced by 10 per year. Ouch.

But all players allowed to transfer without sitting out a year.

Program must vacate all wins since 1998.

Vacating the victories has got to be the biggest punch in the gut.

Does this mean Paternos wins record is no longer?

If I were a gambling man I'd say yes. Maybe we can get the odds on that from CowboyRon. :D

And for those that may have thought the 1998 wasn't a major issue, the NCAA apparently disagrees.

If true. That will be a massive kick to the gut.

None of this surprises me. Welcome to the new NCAA enforcement era.

It's about to get ugly. By the time Emmert is done with college football people will think Goodell is a Saint. This guy is prepared to take his badge and make a power run very few have seen.

If only our state goverment and public welfare department had felt the same..

This is kind of off the main topic but if I were a quality Penn State player I would try to get some of my other teammates to transfer to a school like Ohio State and make a Superteam.

Or perhaps, we instead just witnessed appropriate punishment for one of the worst scandals in collegiate history.

They were just saying on the radio a total of 90 scholarships will be lost!
