I was thinking more of a 4 year deal. I do agree the length of the contract would be the key issue

Yeah 4 years is probably more realistic. My hope for a 3year deal was more of an ideal outcome for the team for sure. Getting the player to agree with it is going to be a problem though unless the team can get very creative.

Back then because of no player movement you can find contract disagreements and hold outs at again all positions. Yes Foster has been injured but again Dallas has paid out big contract to guys like Ratliff and how did that work out.

They're always a risk, no doubt.

As for Murray I don't think he deserves Peterson type money I do think he would deserve around top 5 money which will put it around 7 mill a year. Would I like it to be less? sure. Heck I want to get Dez signed too but not looking at Calvin Johnson or Fitzpatrick money that would pay out over 16 mill a year but I do want to see him get fair market value.

The RB market is an interesting one. Numbers are coming down, not going up, and teams paying big money to running backs are looking to get out of those contracts. In my opinion, there was no way Peterson was staying in Minnesota under his ridiculous deal before this incident, no I see no chance he stays.

Given that change in contracts, it's hard for me to peg exactly where the RB market truly is.

I know you did not use if but the term I see "Dime a Dozen" can apply to all JAG at all position but top talented players the guys that can help you win and achieve the goal of winning championships do not come at a cheap price.

No, I value Murray and hope he returns, but it has to be at a price that works for both sides.

On a side note, I've noticed a focus from Murray on maximizing his earnings potential, even during his rookie year. My brother frequents signing events and has told me that Murray is a regular at those events, even back in his rookie year.

I think he's a sharp guy who knows about maximizing his earnings potential and negotiations with he and his agent won't be easy.

Agreed.

It's like using Emmitt Smith as an example.

I just mean you deal with Murray and what he has done not what Barber or Emmitt did. When Emmitt got his contract it made him the highest paid RB in the NFL. I'm not suggesting Murray should be paid as the top RB in the league.

I know you're not suggesting that Dooms.

The sample size that you're using is incredibly small.

Other than the two hold-out games there were very few in which Emmitt did not play.

There were games besides that, when he got the serious neck injury vs the Bears going up and over the pile. He missed time and has some other issues but yes by and large he avoided injuries and played through some injuries

Two things:

1. If it were Dunbar or someone else on the team with all of Murray's snaps, they wouldn't have as many yards as Murray.

2. We'd still probably be 3-1.

Guess I agree on both counts. All to suggest that one should accept that there may well be a drop-off if Murray has to be replaced, but that's no reason, in and of itself, to break the bank on the guy.

Again all I ask is Dallas treat him fair and offer a legit market value price. 3 mill a year that some have claimed? hell their are many JAGS in the league making around that to me that is a slap in the face.

I like Murray. But I'd rather pay Dez and Tyron. Can't pay 'em all.

I like Dez as well but not at 16 mill a year, all the passing Dallas has done has amounted to nothing. Only when this franchised has shown the ability to run and pass have that had any real success. It is what it is and while people love saying it is a passing league well SB champs showed that is not the case and you can win with a strong rushing attack

Having the greatest OL of all time didn't prevent Emmitt from getting a payday.

Context is everything:

1. Emmitt's payday came only after an ugly and protracted holdout that caused him to miss the first two games of '93.

2. The salary cap was not instituted until 1994.

I don't see that as a reasonable expectation at all.

Anyone thinking he'll stay here for $3 million a year is kidding themselves and they're in for a big disappointment.

Yeah, and the Cowboys were 0-2 with Emmitt holding out.

Yeah, let's let the guy leading the league in rushing walk away in free agency. Has that ever happened before?

And let go with RB's who can't pass block a lick, remember where that got us with Romo?

Let's value his services about the same as the Titans value Shonn Greene, he better take that../sarcasm.

Pay him upwards of $6.5m a year, depending if he completes the year healthy.

Yep. And if you think Murray is as important to this team's success as Emmitt was to that team's success, I guess you pay him. I have a hard time thinking that way.

I agree in 1990's that was around what Emmitt was paid this is 2014 and while RB pay in comparison to say top WR is less it is still above 3 mill and based on numbers I have seen is around an avg of 7 for a top 10 RB.

I'll take Randle and our current OL. You guys can have Murray.

Again, I like Murray, but the success is Mostly cuz of the OL.

OL matter as does the ability to take it that extra yard or 2 that is the difference of 1st and 10 and 4th down and punting. If Cowboys felt Randle was the top RB he would be starting.
