This win makes us a "shaky 5-4" because of the horrible defensive play

Only if they win their next 2. If not then it's not possible

Well they have to play the juggernaut known as the Minnesota Vikings next week so thankfully we don't have to worry about them winning this Thursday night.

The offense stepped up in the end to win the game, something which the defense didn't do last week. Such a wasted opportunity at 6-3, though I guess 5-4 will do ...

The defense gifted the Offense and Romo another chance of winning the game. To blame the defense for everything is just lunacy. Offense was horrible. Romo was horrible. Yet the defense keeps giving the offense gift after gift after gift to do something. The defense is decimated with injuries. Yet the offense is the one thats been stinking up for the last few games. When will people realize that its our offense and their lack of ability to sustain drives is what is killing this team? Certainly, people here can see that right?

Did you not see how we lost the game last week?

Again it's the definition of stupidity to say that you'd toss the offense before the defense.

What about Week 2 or Week 4?

Shocking as it may be, there's probably going to be games where one unit is more responsible than the other for a loss. Picking and choosing which one you are going to pay attention to doesn't make you right.

Actually the defense forced a turnover on downs that should have ended the game. Were it not for the offensive mismanagement, Dallas wins.

You're right they did, I never said otherwise.

I don't think anyone is blaming the "defense for everything", at least I'm not.
Offense was horrible. Romo was horrible. Yet the defense keeps giving the offense gift after gift after gift to do something.
Our offense was horrible, but Romo definitely wasn't. We had around 7 DROPS today, and some of those were on 3rd down. Not to even mention the bone headed penalties we made, and to be honest I actually thought Romo played well (B+ rating).
The defense is decimated with injuries. Yet the offense is the one thats been stinking up for the last few games.
Actually they're both suffering their own problems, and no it's not just the offense that has "been stinking".
When will people realize that its our offense and their lack of ability to sustain drives is what is killing this team? Certainly, people here can see that right?
You do understand that our DEFENSE is the MAIN reason this 5-4 team isn't a 7-2 team. The defense couldn't even force a single punt against Denver for crying out loud, and cost us that game. And then last week against the Lions they let them pull off a miracle due to the atrocious coverage, it really was painful to watch. Surely you can see this right?

You can sugar coat however you like, but it's a fact that our defense has yet to stop or slow down a good QB. Every good QB we've faced has tore us to shreds, just like the inevitable coming up again next week against the Saints. Expect Drew Brees to throw for around 400 yards and 3 TDs, because after all that's what our defense is giving up on average to good/great QBs.

Yes. The offense was inept today

Well, we haven't played a high school team, so no hard evidence. Just common sense, but you wouldn't know anything about that.

I do have evidence on how delusional you are though. Just keep your rose-colored glasses on.

This defense has made history in only 8 games in allowing the most 400 yard passers against them. They just got blown up by Detroit for 600 yards and they let Christian Ponder make them look awful.

It's embarrassing. Just like your posts defending it.

You count yards, I'll count the wins!! I see our win today allowed about 1,300 tear drops! I'd hand you a tissue if I could.

Doesn't matter, you shouldn't be in that situation at home with that 1-6 team

The offense doesn't matter when it successfully engineers a game winning drive?

Oh- all the plays before, blah blah blah.

I agree- the plays before should be scrutinized and improvements should be forthcoming- whether that happens remains to be seen, respectfully.

But a game winning drive doesn't matter?

I guess they should have lost then...

Better?

Gives more negative things for the blood-suckers to feed off of.

Feast.

There is no mystery as to how Jerry Jones keeps making money with people like this around. Keep drinking the kool-aid Jerry's selling, pal.

You won't be counting many more wins with a defense that keeps playing like this, and any rational fan knows that.

You know that how? Any rational person wouldn't be so premature in drawing such conclusion because games are won with all three phases involved; not just defense! Focusing on one part of the team only proves how narrow minded you are and any rational person can see that!

You must be upset we won! That 12 paragraph post you already had typed up in the event we lost just has to wait.

Uh, the title of this thread is focusing on the defense and that's why I addressed it.

You really are making a fool of yourself. I am always happy for a win, but in my opinion, the defense is the biggest detriment to this team, and most knowledgeable fans would agree with me. And how is it a premature assumption? We are nine games into the season.

Does the offense have problems? Sure. Whether its our lack of a running game, or play calling, or Romo's play, the offensive line, Dez Bryant or whatever. They are far from perfect.

However, the defense is beyond horrible. The only positive they seem to have is their ability to create turnovers, something that is very important, but something that you can't rely on every Sunday. They created four of them last week and still lost because they surrendered three 80 yard drives in the 4th qtr, yeah three. We are pretty banged up, but injuries are part of the game. They give up too many yards and too many points when they need a stop the most.

Again, try to follow along. This is a message board where people give their opinions. The topic of this thread is predicated on how horrible the defense is, not all three phases of the game.

I think anyone who doesn't understand why our defense is having big problems simply isn't making an effort to look at the big picture and put the pieces together. I've found in my work environment there are many who don't understand because they don't want to understand. To do so would mean their argument would become a nullity and they would have to let it go for a while; they find that unacceptable. In this case, many of the comments on our defense seem more like political arguments than those that are fact based. (Political parties always blame each other, often before even knowing what the subject might be. They are quick to point the finger, and always in the same direction.)

What you just described is exactly what I said. Offense was quite ordinary in the first half, but cobbled enough offense to get it going in the 2nd half. This Band-Aid defense held on just long enough for the W, but it's pretty obvious no lead is safe with this defense.

The biggest problem in today's NFL is an offense can not afford to be ordinary. Everything including penalties favors the offense and that is why no lead is safe anymore in any game. Is our defense great? No, however our offense is not putting themselves in a position to score on every drive. This defense does enough to win games, yet the offense and the coaches struggle to come up with a solid plan which they believe they can execute.

I give the defense a good grade

One of the worst offenses posts 395 yards, 22 first downs...and you say "good grade" for our defense? I sure wish I could designate you as homework grader for all my work!

The thread quotes our record as a shaky 5-4 as well. That record doesn't reflect solely on what our defense does. It involves all three phases.

Didn't our defense score a TD today?? Didn't it come up with four TO's last week and two this week? You're right, that's horrible!!! A horrible defense I see. If it weren't for that same defense we aren't even close to Detroit last week.

I know what forums are for and you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. You have your view of our defense and I have mine.

I love this defense, we are always playing from whistle to whistle and our players step up and make plays despite the injuries that have piled on the unit. Despite all of those injuries, we have players who still don't know their way around the stadium that come out and play good football and play with a level of passion I admire. Along the way they're allowing more yards and plays. They're also keeping up and making plays of their own. With 75% of our projected starting Dline, and half of our secondary what would you expect?

My opinion is based off more than just some stats anyone can google. I look at the personnel out there and see how well 11 men are playing based off of their circumstances. I find it more impressive that guys getting called off the couch are out there doing a good job.[/quote]
