Thompson received a pretty healthy signing bonus for a now name player. I see people easily scratching him off the 53, but not TWill. Granted TWILL has a higher SB, but he seems to be a lot more of a bonehead.
I will not be surprised if Thompson makes it over TWILL. As a side note, TWill getting suspended would really help us out on the initial 53. That's why I don't think he will get suspended before the first game and the initial roster is set.
Thompson's signing bonus is why you think they keep him then using the same logic says twills contracr keeps him on the 53. That's not to mention twills career is light years better than Thompson's.
Wow you drive a tough bargainThompson and TW are the two I'd let go. I'd find a way to offload TW in a trade though even if we have to give up a 6th or 7th rounder.

Oh he too good to make this team? That's just dumb. Twill is a goopd player. He doesn't have to be a superstar. He needs to be our #3-4 receiver and if some of the new guys works out he will be. That would give us really nice depth. People can hate how he catches with his body but he still catches at a high rate, had above average separation, can run routes. He has the most production than any receiver on the team and has never missed a game. Why get rid of quality depth just cause he isnt Julio Jones?
Of course, this is predicated on us being able to find a trade that doesn't cost us money because TW's contract is guaranteed.
He's not an idiot? Lol. Uhhhhh. Ok!!
His practically guaranteed contract that makes him prohibitive to cut makes it even more likely he stays.Williams is one of the few receivers who has a rapport with Dak. That alone keeps him on the 53, imo.
A trade saves us his base salary, so we'd save 3.5m, but ultimately, I don't think it'll come down to money. We have plenty of space, with even more coming.
Last time we let a guy like Lenoir go, he went to NE, his name was Danny Amendola! They better hang on to Lenoir.

We are considering $1M a "pretty healthy signing bonus" now?
I wouldnt use that as a basis for Twill getting cut, as Twill's signing bonus was $5M.
Consider this. The Cowboys gave Nolan Carroll $4 million guaranteed. And then cut him after a game and a half.
A $1 million signing bonus guarantees nothing to Thompson besides that check. If he doesn't get and stay healthy, I have little doubt that this team would cut its losses.

They started last season with:
WR - 6
RB - 5 (including FB)
TE - 3 (technically Rico made the 53 but was moved to IR after a day in order to be eligible to return)
That is 14 total for those 3 positions (considering FB as RB).
I think 14 is the likely number this year also.
TE - 3
- At this point Rico seems unlikely to make it. He was clearly 4th string in the PS game and he didn't play any ST snaps.
RB - 4
RB/WR (Tavon Austin) - 1
- They have 3 backup RBs that somewhat similar (Big, good straight-line speed. limited "wiggle").
- The FB is somewhat similar to the backup RBs. More runner/receiver than most FBs.
- Zeke
- Rod Smith
- Bo or DJackson
- Olawale
They could as discussed in the past consider Austin in the RB head count.
WR - 6
- Based on TE/RB head count, 6 spots remain for WR.
- Hurns
- Gallup
- Beasley
- Lenoir - Great training camp, but not a size or speed guy.
- TWill - 3.5M guaranteed (money not yet paid)
- Thompson - 1M signing bonus (already paid)
- Noah Brown - The coaches liked him last year as a hybrid WR/TE. His blocking is elite for a WR. Has been injured during camp.

Reducing it down (5 from these options):
Rico (zero or 1)
RB (2 or 3 of these)
Bo
DJackson
Olawale
WR (2 or 3 these)
Lenoir
TWill
Thompson
Noah Brown
