Thoughts and opinions about last night's Super Bowl!

I remember the years l despised the other teams in our division and couldn't imagine them winning a SB. It made me sick.

Jerry and the bozo NFL commissioner have pretty much taken my love for the NFL away. I didn't even care that the Eagles won. Still dont.

IMO, the Eagles are the most stacked team since the CAP was put in place. I cannot recall a team as well balanced all around as the Eagles. On offense they have weapons at every skill position. On defense they have a strong DL, good CBs and safeties, and a LB that seem to be everywhere. This is my opinion but they do not have to depend on their QB to win games like the Patriots did with Brady or the Chiefs do with Mahomes.

Hurts is the weak link on this team because he does not play like he played last night consistently. But when he does play well, the Eagles are unbeatable, IMO. And let's face it, Hurts is not overwhelmed by the big games.

On the other hand, I thought KC is a better team than they showed last night. Mahomes was ordinary most of the game and they made a lot of mistakes. I agree with the OP, they should have run the ball more often. I think you have to run the football against the Eagles to be successful. You cannot give the football away like the Chiefs did.

My take-away is the Cowboys have a long way to go before they can compete with the Eagles. Either the Eagles have to falter, like they did in 2023, or the Cowboys need to add a bunch more talent. And keep in mind Carter and Davis are still young and will get better. So with Dickerson and Jurgens. And one things the Eagles have shown they can do if find equivalent replacements for the players they lose. If Jerry doesn't change his ways soon, he will be eating the Eagles dust for the next 5 years at least.

Did Andy Reid make any adjustments to help his OL, did he even want to run the football?
None that I could see. Mahomes was running for his life the entire game. Running game? I think McCarthy was calling those plays because the Chiefs had NO running game. Hunt, Perine and Pacheco had 7 carries for 24 yards. That's not going to win any games.

Turned off after the neutral zone infraction on the Eagles third possession

I knew it was over. I knew it was over before it started but was hoping I was wrong. Nope. So I was out !

Add on that these SB games have become dreadful to watch. No flow to the games. Super dome is a dump. The season ends for me on championship Sunday

Eagles have an amazing team from the FO to the coaches all the way down to the roster. They’ve rebuilt several iterations and have seen much success and minimal turbulence. It’s hard not to be jealous of everything they’ve accomplished because I’d die happy to see even a fraction of it at this point. Trying not to give it too much thought though because I know the Jones family don’t care so why should I

One, Kirby Smart is on to something with his college defenders.
Two, a balanced offense is still possible at the pro level so if one fails the other can be good enough to win.
Three, a dominant offensive line is not mandatory for SB success but just like how Tampa's dline determined their win over an overmatched KC oline, the Eagles did the same thing.
KC's tackles were owned all night.

That about covers it.

-Thought the Chiefs were badly outcoached, more undisciplined team
-When a defense plays shell coverage, the way to beat it is to run the football against the light box, they ran the ball just 6 times in the 1st half.
-Chiefs playing their Guard at left tackle finally caught up to them, thought Josh Sweat was the best rusher on the night and earned a big payday this offseason.
-Did an excellent job containing Barkley, but allowed too many rushes to Hurts that got them out of long situations.
-Defensive penalties, ball 3 feet over the head and defender has to hit the guy in the head, Bolton with a personal foul when it's 2nd and 20.

-I think the media can now pipe down says Mahomes is the goat. Two terrible super bowl performances in similar fashion. Not sure many are old enough to have seen Montana, but he never lost, period, just like Jordan. I laugh at people who think Lebron is better, same goes with Brady. Montanta/Jordan never lost and were the reason why they won!!
Last night you saw the REAL Kansas City Chiefs.
The NFL was under too much pressure to allow them to get help from the refs.
They never have been great.

Last night proved the point that no QB, no matter how talented, can win against a talented dline. It didn't work for Burrow, Brady, or Mahomes. They also showed that size matters on the oline. Eagles pulled this off through a combination of great drafting and aggressive free agency/trades. Scary thing is that the Eagles just had 2 HOFers retire. They are a very young team who probably have a 2/3 year window if they stay healthy. Cowboys better get big fast if they want to try to compete.

Reminded me of the last KC SB loss against Tampa. The Oline was awful. Pat had no time. KC will make it a priority to shore it up this offseason and most likely be right back.
This.
Exactly this.

I would also add " commitment to the run"

Chiefs only gave their RBs, 7 designed runs while Saquon ran the rock 25 times himself.

Yes, saquon only averaged 2.5 per rush but going one dimensional rarely wins.
Yeah I agree.

The Eagles were also beating the Chiefs in the last Superbowl they played each other in...not like last night's massacre...but they were solidly outplaying them and were up by 10 at halftime.

Then the Chiefs came out running in the 2nd half. .and that (and the refs) were the difference for them.

They just seemed to not even care about running last night AGAINST THE #1 PASS DEFENSE! It kinda made no sense. That said....their run game wasn't good all year, so maybe they just figured they'd live or die based on Mahomes. In hindsight that didn't work...but in theory I can't bash them TOO hard for it.

If you would have told me KC would hold Barkley to under 60 yards rushing and to a 2.5 YPC average... I would have bet my life savings on KC.

But Hurts did what our Deer-in-the-headlights never does: he just refused to lose. KC obviously sold out to stop Philly's Plan A (smart move), and dared Hurts to beat the blitz.... and he just stared down the gun barrel and beat them. Our guy would have panicked and thrown 4 picks

It was rough being the only person at my watch party rooting for KC, besides a little kid.

Kendrick was great.

The Eagles defense was just incredible.

KC actually was gaining better yards when they tried to run than Philly. They just didn't do it enough.

Philly was getting like 2 yards per rush.... but they just kept at it. Never broke a big one...but they refused to abandon the run. Barkley..TWENTY FIVE rushes...even though he usually run right into a brick wall

Barkley and the Eagles have to be heroes to every RB in the NFL and every RB hoping to be drafted. Back in the money!

The mighty Andy Reid refused to even try to run the football. This was his issue when he was the Eagle HC.
I think down and distance dictated a lot of what they did. but yeah, he also didn't try much. they fell behind early and the pass rush was relentless. they got caught in a buzzsaw of philly defense.

Even Hurts said, "Defense wins Championships" during the post game interview. Made his job easy last night.

Philly D played lights out from the first snap.

A team of 4 pass rushers are better than 1.

The iggles are all about winning. They amassed the best NFL talent in the league. If the Cowboys want to replicate them they need to realize that.
