TLH: Do the Dallas Cowboys miss Tony Romo?

I was watching vidoes of him today.....4th quarter comebacks, one of just his passes to one receiver (Dez), and some long ones on him and what he did as a Cowboy. I kind of forgot everything he had done for Dallas until watching these videos today. Sometimes, some of us only remember what we think the bad was, and rarely remember the good. He was an amazing qb for sure. I've met him and his family several times and I can say he was an amazing person also. I have tons of autographed memorabilia from him, which he happily signed. So yes, I miss him. But I also realize its time to move on. He did great things for our franchise and took an enormous amount of criticism. Imo, he deserves little of that criticism. Hopefully I'll see him again next summer.....I want to tell him "thank you" for everything he tried to do.

I do miss Tony, he was a good player and a great person. I always would want him to be on our team. Nothing against dak since I want him to. each game they have their strengths. I hope we start throwing the ball down field more though.

I'm not going to debate the measures of either since we absolutely don't know if Dak would have done any better quarterbacking the Cowboys teams Romo quarterbacked.

My personal belief is that if Romo had quarterbacked the teams we had in the early 1990s with the coaching staff that the would have had the same playoff success as Aikman. But I can't prove that no more than I can prove whether Dak would have done any better than Romo.

I will agree that they are two different types of QBs, which is why I made the statement I did. I prefer watching Romo and his style of play. However, Dak is only in his second season so we really don't know what his style of play will evolve into.

IMHO...................if your team isnt very good, your Oline isnt very good, and you need a savior to keep you competitive and put up points, then I would rather have Romo. But the better your team, the more I want Dak. Dak is a true leader, properly manages the game, can make plays in different ways and is a winner. But I dont see him as a gun slinger. At least not at this point in his career.

Enjoying to watch? Yah, but I enjoy watching winning. And with a dominant run game I believer Dak is your guy. Both would be fine, however. I loved Romo when he was here and healthy. With this run game a better D, I always thought he could win it all.

Is this a sophomore slump? Have defensive coordinators figured him out after having a full offseason to study him? Or is this just a bump in the road from playing great defenses?

Of course a hypothetical healthy Romo would have played well. A hypothetical healthy Romo would likely play well through his early 40s.

But when you bring reality into the equation, Romo hadn't finished consecutive games uninjured since 2014. An all-world injured quarterback is no more useful to the team on the field than an awful quarterback.

You say this like it was something that happened a ton. It wasn't. He was hurt in 2015, and when he returned he still wasn't healthy. Then he got hurt on a fluke tackle in 2016. It's two injuries. Just because they happen "close" together does not mean they are a trend. Sometimes things happen in bunches.

Fox broadcaster and former Cowboy quarterback Troy Aikman suggested at one point that Dallas could be missing their old quarterback, Tony Romo, who was notorious for his big-play ability.

While it’s just the second game of the season, Prescott’s play continued a trend from last season–smart, yet conservative quarterback play. Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett also seemed to agree with Aikman’s notion.

“When they play that style of defense, you have to be able to consistently attack with the passing game,” Garrett said, via the Dallas Morning News. “At different times today, I thought we were able to do that, and at other times we weren’t. We didn’t make the plays, for whatever reason. We really needed to have [consistent] success throwing the ball. We were not able to do that.”

3-4 back injuries/surgeries in a span of 2+ years is not a sequence of freak accidents when you take his age and the brutal beating his body took over the years into account. Any hope that he could have stayed healthy consistently going forward was nothing more than praying for a miracle.

If you want to pretend that a 35+ year old QB with not one but a notable series of recent BACK (not ankle, not finger,etc) injuries can be relied on to stay healthy in even the short term let alone the medium/long term, then go right ahead.

Thank goodness you're not in our front office though. At least they were wise enough to close the era at the right time when they lucked into the opportunity (Dak playing well). And this is coming from an enormous Tony Romo fan.
