Trey Lance, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, Bo Nix

The problem is you have a head coach married to a system and not building a system around the player.
I've seen good things, and I've seen bad things from Trey Lance, but I haven't seen enough things to figure out if they're correctable.
The potential is there.

The dilemma,
Do you hire a coach that fit your players system?
Or do you get the players to fit the coaches system?
I don’t think we have a system in Dallas so maybe it doesn’t matter, but I totally agree with you

You're not wrong, but I can't say I blame Lance for making that choice though....tough to turn down top end of the 1st round money before NIL was a thing.

100%. He struck when it was hot for the draft and the payday with the pick.
Can't blame him for that. Life changing money even if it's the only contract he received.

In the next 64 days I doubt Trance is a priority to get signed. Of course, no team in the league will have any interest in him, so no urgency in even talking to him. Acquiring him was a mistake. A giant one by the 49ers. A small one by the Cowboys.
Other teams should have an interest in him.

See an eye doctor.
i'll do the same, but your appointment is before mine!! My doctor did tell me that he was so good, that he got to play in the last game of the season! My eyes said he was so great, he couldn't beat out Cooper Rush!!

Go back and watch the game and then take a look at the Chiefs 2nd qb.

I think it's a crime that our OC wasn't able to get him on the field for some type of gadget plays during the season. He may be the most athletic player on our team.

He needs to play. The more he doesn't play, the more he doesn't develop. Darnold took years, of playing, to get it figured out. Of course, it helps that he's on a team with two top receivers, a top tight end and a free agent RB who can play.

Lance has still taken a very low amount of snaps in games. Bumps should be expected, and the best way to learn from those is to actually experience them.
I agree he needs to play but the Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love route is not bad either. That said, it is time for him to get on the field and not learning on the sidelines. I thought he played well absent the red zone and I felt he was being too cautious - which honestly is not a bad thing!

Not after you pay Prescott 250M and Lance isn't signed. What are you gonna do, drive the price up on yourself? It was Cooper's time and he was the backup.

Trey will get re-signed and replace Prescott at some point.

No, Bo Nix and Penix are 25 year old rookies! Like 6th year Seniors….
thanks ave!!!! In my laziness I didn't research how old they were on my own, damn didn't know they were that old, isn't Micah around this age

I just read this tidbit in this article.

“ Lance is only about seven months older than Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. He's a day younger than Atlanta's Michael Penix and two months or so younger than Bo Nix in Denver.”

I’ve been on the fence about writing him off but this certainly puts things in perspective. Add this to the Darnold resurrection and we sometimes can be too quick to sunset these guys.

He needs a lot of game time experience to really know what he is. I wish there was a G league equivalent for the NFL. Just musing, but I wonder what the precedence is of a team loaning a player to the UFL during the summer.

Didn't all of those guys play like 4-5 years in college? That's a big difference... age vs experience.

As long as Rush is the backup Lance will not get any playing time in Dallas. He'll be the 3rd QB and inactive most games. I think he knows this which is why he will look to another team for a backup role where he can at least get into games that are lopsided.

Honestly, I think people are forgetting he was in SF before Dallas. He got a chance to play there. There tried to develop him and gave up on him. Dallas got him and he didn't get many chances but maybe there is a good reason for that. At this point I don't think they lose anything by letting him go somewhere else.

I get trading a 4th round pick for him. It was a risk-reward calculation that didn't work out. I wouldn't have made that deal but it's not the worst risk Jerry has taken.

I don't think it's over yet. He might sign with Dallas. They made him an offer 3 weeks ago. He may be waiting to see if McCarthy and the coaches are coming back and or waiting for free agency.

I do think playing in the UFL would be the best thing for Lance's career. If I was him, I wouldn't sign with an NFL team. I'd go to the UFL for playing time and bet on myself.
I think he will pass on that advice.
