Trey Lance trade is one of the worst moves Jerry has ever done

This trade only looks instantly stupid if both Dak and Cooper get hurt early in the season.

My only pessimism on this trade is it was all Jerry and a gamble. Historically, those have rarely worked out. Jerry was pretty adamant in the interviews that it was all based on their original draft scouting and assurance none of the injuries were lingering. Doesn’t sound like anyone bothered to watch his current play although Jerry claims they talked with people in the Niners organization and got a thumbs up, and I’m not sure it matters because the entire point is he’s so raw and inexperienced even before he was drafted.

A lot of fans are hyped he may replace Dak, which is ironic because Dak will probably be this young man’s biggest mentor.

I like the trade. 4th round pick for a 22 year old QB that was picked number 3 overall is a good risk that could pay off.

He has the talent, just needs development. 49ers seem like a bunch of drama between getting office and coaches about taking Lance and just wasn't a good situation.

Here, Lance can sit and develop without any pressure.

As far as QB controversy is concern, I think it's silly. Nobody in their right mind thinks Lance will take Daks spot. It does put pressure on Dak to perform and he seems to play his best when he has competition
You are right and 'rockport' is so far off base and wrong I don't even wanna dignify his negativity with a response.

There was no reason to make this trade? There was 60M reasons to make this trade.
I can see the Dak Fanatics have their feelings hurt, I mean how small minded is this?
It's an opportunity to develop a young talent, he's a better athlete than Dak, has better feet and a better arm for a 4th rd pick.

Dak will want 60M a year soon, options are needed.

Here's a hint Rockport...Don't marry the players, you're not a kid anymore, it's business.
Love your avatar Brooksey....the two aren't mutually exclusive here though. I can like and root for Dak and still like this trade, which I do!

I see.

You're surprised?

Although, it shouldn't be controversial. Dak is the starter. Cooper is behind him. Nothing Lance does this season is going to change that. I expect them to put Trey Lance on ice for a season and give him the opportunity to learn behind two veterans.
I know that, you know that, but just look at the Lance threads here and how some are saying he’s better than Dak.

The timing of the trade was due to the 49ers shopping him. It was a now or never deal. Jerry likes the chances that Trey Lance could develop into a solid NFL QB better than a QB he could have drafted in the fourth round next year. Can’t disagree with his logic. The trade also covers the Cowboys somewhat in the event that Dak continues to regress and has a bad season. He’s up for a contract extension and the Cowboys might decide to move on. I have no issue gambling a fourth round pick on a QB that was drafted number three overall just two years ago. The Cowboys may come up with a gadget play or two during the season to get Lance on the field. I think they want to make this trade pay dividends as soon as possible.

And this is not even remotely as bad as the two I mentioned.

You're basically wringing your hands over a nonexistent QB controversy and potential criticism. You do not mention his play or ability at all.
Keep reading this thread. The yahoos are out in force. They‘re already calling for Dak and Rush’s head.

If Dak regresses we are in some trouble.. you're almost locked into an exstension because of the cap hit, maybe a restructure and trad.. I dont know.. everything math wise looks like big holes in the ship if we have to move on from Dak in the next 2 years... but yes i too like the upside and if a 25-26 year old Trey Lance can supplant a 33 year old Dak I'm all for it.

Hes being a real cry baby, quitter.

I can't stand quitters.

Next thing you know he will want to tank for the draft.

And that’s say a lot. There was absolutely no reason to make this trade at this time in the year for another QB. He’s probably not going to play at all this season. All it does is create QB controversy with the haters who actually believe that he’s better than Dak. And what’s worse, MM had no idea about the trade until it was already done. Dumb move by the ownership. Just horrible timing right before the season opener.

man some of you guys really need to re watch the games Rush played... literally the QB2 play book goes from 1 page of available passing plays to like 4 pages if Trey Lance can do the job.

If you really think Dak as a rookie didn't have pressure (competition) to continue to play really well while Romo was hurt than I'm not sure what else to tell you
He had the NFL leading rusher in Zeke and a power run game behind an all pro line? That's about a perfect situation any QB can ask for.

I don't really have an opinion on the trade as I am totally unfamiliar with the player.
But Rocky with a negative post?
I am concerned the Apocalypse is next!

We’re definitely in trouble if Dak regresses to the point where it keeps us from making the playoffs. It’s going to leave a dilemma. The trade for Trey Lance was more than the Cowboys just looking for a backup QB. Teams usually don’t trade a fourth round pick if all they have in mind for a QB is a backup job. That would certainly be the starting point with Lance, but the Cowboys are hoping for something bigger.
