He was that.

In some circles there are some that believe Dahmer was responsible for the Adam Walsh kidnapping and murder–That one I don't believe. That young a child just not a Dahmer M.O. I still believe it was Otis Toole.

Interesting. I had never heard the theory that Toole killed Adam Walsh. I just read up on it and it seems very possible.

He admitted it... Then recanted when the Walsh family would not pay him to disclose what he did with the body.

Finally on his death bed he admitted it (again).

I think between his story of the events and how things unfolded with what little evidence there was he did commit the abduction and murder.

The police and the Walsh family believe so as well.

I finished listening to the Jon Benet Ramsey series of podcasts on "The Prosecutors".

2 points... One of them brought up repeatedly and that was the cops blew it. From the time of the 911 call from Patsy Ramsey to the time the coroner arrived to give a preliminary review of the child's body–It was one cluster after another.

The other is the 2008 DNA results that identified two strings of DNA, one from the inside of her underwear and the other on the band of her underwear appeared to be related and could not be connected to any of the remaining Ramsey family members.

That really is the bottom line.

The case was probably solvable but the Boulder police simply blew it–The list of mistakes they made is stunningly long.

I lot of similarities to the "Martha Moxley" case... A murder in a well-to-do area where the police had little or no experience with murder, and the resulting mistakes they made essentially blew each case.

The problem is that Martha Moxley was murdered some 21 years earlier so I can kinda sorta understand why the police did not control the crime scene as well as they should have.

But by 1996 you would think the Boulder police should have known better.

I mentioned in an earlier post that few serial killer stories scare me.

Israel Keys is one of those.

Kenneth Allen McDuff is another.

I've read the book on the guy, "Bad Boy From Rosebud".

I've watched true crime shows featuring the guy.

And I recently heard a rather detailed podcast about his crimes.

And he still scares me.

McDuff's crimes are horrible enough.

But the State of Texas was responsible for letting him out where he would kill again after he had already been imprisoned for killing 3 teenagers outside of Ft. Worth in 1966.

Recently I had been listening to a podcast on the unsolved Burger Chef murders of 1978...

On November 17, 1978 the Burger Chef (a chain that was eventually taken over by Hardees) in Speedway, Indiana (just outside Indianapolis) was robbed and the 4 employees kidnapped.

The 4 employees were found murdered the following day. They had been driven to a neighboring county and were led into an overgrown area and executed.

Since then there have been numerous theories on the case.

And there is even a supposed eye-witness.

But the case has never been solved.

Yeah, the Aaron Kosminski name has been out there a long time.

Some in the scientific community are poo-pooing the study, but fascinating none-the-less.

Saw a documentary on those murders on A&E.

A sad but interesting crime.

After all these years basically have two theories on it...

1. That it had something to do with the sale of drugs and the possibility one of the employees working that night was involved in illicit drug activity. This theory was supported by the only known, but a somewhat questionable witness, who's story seemed to change over the years. What supports this premise is that one of the supposed people identified as being potentially involved ended up disappearing not long after. Also this same person's girlfriend ended up dead–found her remains in a barrel.

2. That it had to do with a gang of robbers who were robbing fast food eateries kinda, sorta in the same area. This theory was supported by at least one investigator in the police department. The challenge for this one is that the gang wasn't known to have killed any of the workers in the previous robberies.

After the Burger Chef was found abandon and the 4 workers found missing, Burger Chef management had the whole place cleaned the following day which of course potentially destroyed a lot of evidence. Of course this was before the bodies were found and it became a murder investigation.

It seems there had to have been at least two involved in the kidnapping & murders in order to handle the 4 kids and 2 vehicles.

Questions remain on why did they removed the workers the workers and not just murder them right there which is the usual modus operandi for such crimes.

Two of the workers were shot. One worker was stabbed repeatedly and her murder appeared to be more violent than the others.

The last worker appeared to have taken off and there are two schools of thought on what happened to him, the first being he was severely beaten. The second is that he simply ran into a tree (it was the middle of the night) which broke his nose. He ultimately died due to how he fell–He drowned in his own blood.

Just odd.

My issues with many of the TV cases found on ID and Oxygen anymore is that they quite often are "Woman is killed/missing and either her boyfriend and/or estranged husband did it" followed closely by "Man is killed and wife/girlfriend arranged it."

More on the monster that was Kenneth McDuff...

The only person who was convicted of murder in 3 different counties in the State of Texas.

The only person to have been on Texas death row twice.

It's still stunning to me today how the state could release him in 1989. Here's a guy that was this close [ ] to being executed by Texas for his 1966 crimes. How he could have been chosen to be paroled is beyond me.

There were many who had prior experiences with McDuff (from his 1966 murders) that warned the state that dead bodies would start piling up again. But no one listened.

And get this... Even after he paroled he violated his parole by threatening someone and was sent back to prison and was paroled once again!

Anyway McDuff is thought to have killed at least 6 additional women after he was paroled in 1989.

Long story short, McDuff was again arrested in 1992 (with help from the TV show "America's Most Wanted") and was executed in 1998.

A couple other notes...

About the same time as his 1966 murders, Charles Whitman killed 16 people–most of those from the University of Texas School Book Depository. Someone asked McDuff what he thought about that crime and McDuff said he thought "Charles Whitman was crazy."

McDuff's mother was a massive enabler always getting or trying to get him out of trouble. She forwarded a lie about his whereabouts during the 1966 murders and got involved in his legal defense during his early 1990's killing spree.

McDuff has been considered a suspect in the Austin Yogurt Shop Murders which occurred about 3 weeks prior to McDuff kidnapping and murdering Colleen Reed who was abducted from an Austin car wash.

This is fantastic news!!! Watched a really good documentary about this tragic event just a few months back. I wonder if it ended up being the guy one of the girl's captured on their phone? Glad they nailed this monster.

Ah - the old "Down The Hill" case. This one has haunted me for years. I'm glad the inept local police looks to have made some progress finally.

And huge shout out to the girls for having the presence of mind to create recordings before their untimely deaths.
