Tyler Guyton will be a bust

They put him into a position to sink or swim.

He was a right tackle in college, and not a finished product.
What does this front office do? Plug him at Left tackle and hope for the best.

He doesn't look good, but most rookies, outside of the Jake Long polished guys, will struggle at left tackle.

I haven't soured on him yet. IMO, move him to RT in 2025 as Steele is awful now. goes back to his college side.
Move Smith back to Left Tackle in the meantime. I will take a very good LT over an great guard anytime.
Mercy sakes alive, RESEARCH. The QB at OKLA was left handed. ORT for a left handed QB is the equivalent of OLT for a RH QB. Dillon Gabriel.

Guyton needs to jump on a fumbled balls, didn't any of these coaches tell him that yet, and tried scooping up a fumble last week against Philly, Flopped...Last night and scooped it up and tries to run, fumbles and cost us a Texans touchdown...

I see some good things from him and I was impressed that he came right in and started working with Big Duke. Shows he wants to put the work in. He's raw and been thrown into LT facing some of the best the NFL has to offer.

I have hope he will be a good one, but the fans won't make it easy for his mental. Calling him a bust year one and not understanding where he's at is a prime example.

Also, having Solari as the OL coach is not doing any of our guys a service.

No one liked the pick at the time and we were all proven right. A bunch of nice WR prospects available and we reached for a need.

Ok?

Foot work and hand positioning is different from left to right side. Repetition and comfort is big for offensive linemen.
It's not as simple as being the blindside OT for your QB
There's a reason why OT typically aren't interchangeable or why some guards are only considered left or right guards.

“You have so many reps on one side and it’s muscle memory but then all of sudden you have do everything the other way and it feels weird,” said Wirfs, who was a first-team All-Pro at right tackle in 2021 and made two Pro Bowls at that spot before jumping over to the left side. “The more you do it, the more comfortable you get. But it does suck off the rip. You feel very awkward and it just takes some getting used to. It’s easy to get very frustrated with yourself because you had success on this side. But I’ve got great guys around me.
Williams, the 11th overall pick by Cincinnati in 2019, played left tackle at Alabama and throughout his first three years with the Bengals until moving to the right side this season.

“I think in the NFL and especially at o-line, technique is just so important and so ingrained in you and it’s not just knowing the technique, it’s feeling it and your feet and your weight distribution and everything like that so it’s not as easy as just saying now I’m going to do it the other way,” Williams said. “It takes a lot of practice and time.”

If it's weird for Wirfs to adapt to, imagine how it feels for a rookie making the jump from college to the NFL. And then asking the rookie to go up against the former cream of the crop DE's from college every weekend. Some who have years of NFL weight room/fully polished players.

The fact that we lucked out on a few guys who came in and did well year 1 has folks mistakenly assuming that anyone can be plugged in day one. Not going to happen.

It’s early I know but TG has all the traits of a bust. It seems like all the negatives coming out of college were true and he brought them all to the NFL. Mentally he is weak and immature and that will never work in the NFL at tackle. I haven’t given up on Mazi but Guyton looks like a big mistake.

Talk me down.
I'm sorry but when I saw his face ( Looks like a crying angel) and how small his upper body is I thought to myself this might be another Will McClay EGG.
Well its getting to where you can add another # 1 pick BUST!!!!

Guyton not tough enough it seems. I want my left tackle to be a mean, angry, nasty SOB. Who enjoys punishing his opponent. And breaking his will. Guyton aint that. Maybe his technique gets better. maybe it doesnt. But I want him to play angry.

He has pretty much been as expected. You guys just get far too giddy and unrealistic about first round picks sometimes. Kind of like how Mazi was going to be better than Jalen Carter.

Penalties have been his biggest issue. Pressure and sacks allowed he hasnt be awful. It might make sense to play him at RT with Tyler at LT, but Guyton can be a good NFL RT

The decision to not put his butt down when claiming the ball after giving up the strip fumble was beyond brainless. You can't give someone a brain and in reality if he wasn't a first round pick then many teams that hold players accountable would cut him. The standard is the standard.

Bust.
sorry, what?

Agreed. McClay has this aura. Roster and drafts are suspect at best.
at best? lol. you're very hyperbolic. even with the recent misses, he's still in the upper tiers over the past 5 years. and roster construct is hardly his fault when they won't utilize free agency.

That’s my issue with Guyton. He appears mentally soft and doesn’t care.

Thats my perspective from practice and games. But I am no coach or behind the scenes
Doesn’t care??? Did you see him toting the rock last night! He was tryina make **** happen for us. I honestly thought he was gonna house it

I want to see Guyton with a better offensive line coach. Mike Solari is garbage.

Upper tier? Based on what? Look at the recent drafts. Look at this roster. This team might win 4 games this year. Zero playoff success. How is he upper tier?

His natural position is RT. They should have Tyler at LT and Guyton at RT and try it that way.

I would find him a spot somewhere on the line if LT is too much for him. He might be better at G or RT and move Tyler back to LT. I don’t know but I do know Solari needs to go.
