The team has more holes than Swiss cheese now….it didn’t before free agency. That was a decision by the front office to not create cap space. It had some positions of need that could have been filled with moderate (not egregious) spending in free agency which would allowed them to have way more flexibility in the draft- particularly signing a linebacker and a serviceable upgrade at D tackle.

in terms of jpj being gone and what evidence do I have? The same evidence you have that he’ll be there. I don’t think he gets past Pitt who desperately needs a center. And no I wouldn’t rather “draft” two offensive lineman because I would have brought Tyron back.

Tyler has a been a stud where he’s been for 2 years straight. We know what we are getting. He’s much better at this position, the cowboys need to stop moving him around and let him excel. We’ve seen Them ruin guys bouncing them around. You calling Tyron a back up is factually proven wrong by the fact that another nfl team just paid him to be a starter.
Tyler Smith has been in the league for two years, one year at left tackle(17 games) playing for the often injured Tyron Smith and last year at guard(14 games).......HE was specifally drafted to replace Tyron, Tyron is now gone and Dallas has options at guard, they don't have many options at tackle, so you can either fill one position via the draft or two, I'd rather replace one position, CENTER via the draft....

This is the problem with the cap, you can't continue to rework contracts effecting your cap down the line, you can't continue to push money back on future caps to clear some oney for a current year, Dallas has done that for three years and now why they're stuck with Dak costing 59 million this year and 36 million next year if they chose to move on from him, I'm not interested in giving him a new deal, he's just not good enough to lead this team, 8 years have been long enough to see that....Zeke, another ridiculous contract is costing 6 million against the cap in dead money, Gallup is going to cost something like 16 million over two years against the cap in dead money, Martin is going to cost Dallas dead money in two years when he's no longer on the team...ALL money Dallas would have if they weren't continuing to rework contracts to get some money to sign players over the last three plus years, the bill has come due, time to play out the year, move on from Dak, dead money hell in 2025, rebuild in 2026..and I think that's that's the Cowboys are going to do!

Tyron made 2nd Team All Pro and went to the Jets for a 1year 6.5mil contract.

He only missed one game in the 2nd half of the season, and played the last 3 games. He's not injured and is playing great.

We've spent almost that much for backup swing Ts in the past. As a percentage of cap, we might have spent more.

We stuck with Tyron coming off inferior play and more injuries for much more money than 6.5mil.

Something has changed. I would have expected them to jump at that price.

Gives them 2 seasons to evaluate and determine if they want to lock up Tyler at LT pay. It’s really just that simple!

Tryon, you were an awesome player and we appreciate you. Sorry, your body failed you. The best thing about you didn't complain and tried to start a business while you have done your job at a high level.

Tyron Smith is the classic case of only break glass in case of an emergency....He can't stay healthy, when he's somewhat healthy, he can't practice, his only value at his age is as a backup swing tackle, so it was time to move on.....
He was able to stay healthy enough this past season in his contract year. No one should be surprised by that.

Can people in here stop being hypocrites stop the insanity everyone wants to know now Jerry made the wrong move by getting rid of tyrant when four years ago and every year they're saying get rid of tyron he's too injury prone he cost too much he might be taking away a progress from another young player and now that Jerry made the move it's the wrong move Jerry can't make any moves without them being questioned no move will ever be the right move he's damned if he does damned if he don't that's the old saying this is where Jerry Jones is with our fan base look it was time none of the players we lost this all season wasn't surprised most of us talked about it all off season now that it happens we have to go and make sure we take our potshots at Jerry's in the front office for doing something fans have been screaming for years to do...

Get over yourself fake Internet GM's this move was going to be made eventually it finally happened get over it it's time to move on other teams get rid of players on the same level and they just move on it was time just like we all knew that Tyron, Fowler Pollard, Armstrong ,Gallup, Gallimore along with TylerB and others were all going to be first to leave here.

we don't know what we talked about it all winter, all long and we knew a lot of them were going to go to Washington, we already knew this but now we got to talk about it as if it was a big shock and it's the wrong moves,

no this is what team building in roster building is every year you have turnover especially when you get a new defensive coordinator you're gonna lose a lot of guys on that side of the ball because Zimmer is gonna bring in his own type of guys and he has a right to and we have other guys in the waiting to replace every one of those guys in my opinion already on this team or soon will be given free agency is literally only four days old we have six months to build a roster with trades the draft bringing in undrafted free agents there's gonna be a lot more roster cuts there are so many good players still out there and everyone seems to be already jumping off a Cliff and I don't get it every one of those players who were leaving we knew we're leaving literally go find all the posts do a search that list is exactly who we thought would be the first chips to fall and they would start bringing in different guys happens every year but most of those guys who left were definitely Dan Quinn guys on defense and the other guys were already overpaid and underperforming or they just weren't worth paying cause you can get guys like them off the street all the time...

That bill has come due crap is such front office speak. Stephen would love you. We sat around here for years watching this front office kick the can down the road for teams that had no chance- far less than this team. they could have restructured and created some cap space this season and came into next year with a team with a real chance. They didn’t have to go crazy in free agency just sign a few players at positions of need. The bill comes due but there’s way to circumvent it and make the hit less but they effectively closed their own window (even if it was slightly cracked) which makes the dak situation even worse.

You may not be interested in giving dak a new deal…that’s great but they are going to, Jerry will not move on, which makes this false “cap reset” even dumber because now you’ve just wasted one year of the franchise quarterbacks limited prime years and made the draft way less flexible and created even more holes than the team had originally.

You and others are working under a faulty premise that they are going to move on from dak. They are in actuality doubling down on dak and being “all in” on him, Micah and Ceedee which is exactly why with daks limitations you should be maximizing the talent around him and they aren’t doing that right now. Jerry has held onto every player or coach he’s loved for far too long ; Garrett, Romo, witten, and he’s lost every single negotiation lately to big named players. Dak is going to get paid by Jerry.

The draft is always a crap shoot, if teams hit on 40% of their picks over a number of year , you build the gm a statue, by Dallas literally sitting out free agency they are relying everything on the draft to fill glaring holes now and where traditionally they do better when drafting best player available and not shoe horned into certain positions. Regardless this thread was about Tyron smith and letting him was just one of many mistakes so far this off season.

Dallas could have wanted some type of injury clause in the contract. And Tyron probably said no to it.

The cap is real, it's not an accounting error, people that say the cap doesn't matter don't understand, reworking deals every year to get under the cap has significant ramifications on you cap down the road and players you can sign ...Dead money from Romo's contract hampers you from signing players, Zeke's 6 million on the cap have ramifications from you signing free agents, reworking Martins money to just get under the cap to start the league year hampers a team from signing free agents, it's not an accounting error, it's real money and a real issue, and Dallas front office is facing that issue,.....when you're trying to stay relevant every year which is what this front office does, you end up where you are now......At some point you have to bite the bullet, three 12-5 season and no champioships didn't get it done for this team, reworking deals has got you where you are.....Other teams suck it up, clear their roster, eat the dead money for two years and rebuild but not this clown show front office, but as they already stated, they're about staying relevant, not winning championships, 29 year should have shown you that doing things their way doesn't win championships but it does get the talking twits talking about the Cowboys 24/7/365!

this is my last reply as I’m not going back and forth with you all day and we are now far off topic. I never said it’s an “accounting error” not once- so I don’t appreciate the insinuation. Choosing to bite the bullet right now when the franchise has finally found stability and consistent competitive teams, what they’ve been literally searching for since 96’ just shows even more the franchise’s lack of awareness.

It’s going to look even worse when they eventually resign dak to a massive deal and have worse team to show for it and have effectively taken a step back for a fake “cap reset”. Three straight 12 win seasons should have been the reason to get more aggressive this offseason, when you haven’t made a championship game in 30 years- not say “nah dog this ain’t it”.

it was a mistake and it’ll be a terrible mistake without a direction and with a new contract for dak.

It seems now more than ever, Stephen may be calling the shots on some of these decisions. The old Jerry would have obviously resigned Tyron, Stephen is not so invested in Tyron, among others on the team. And he is a lot more miserly and penny pinching. But one thing he is like his Dad, is he is an idiot when it comes to football decisions and team building. Worse than Jerry. Heaven help us with this dimwit.

What insinuation? what part of "People", I didn't state YOU personally, reading comprehension...and any "you", "you're" with regards to my comment is clearly within the context of That of the "Dallas Cowboys" organization thinking, not "YOU" "YOUR" thinking..

The argument that it's "time" to move on is BOGUS if you're keeping Dak. Dak is not as mobile and is a vet who needs his blindside protected. I want Dak gone yesterday but…you can’t keep him and let Tyron walk…unless you hope to get lucky.

If this is part of flushing Dak out I’m all for it, but if they go out and sign another tackle….NO
