Tyron Smith Pro Day

Additionally, we can't be certain how it translates to the field just yet, but from a logical standpoint the added weight will make him more stout in the run game.

If it's Tyron Smith, Marcel Dareus or Patrick Peterson they fill HUGE needs with some very sick players. These are your elites for our choice.

Well I haven't really been on the Tyron train either, but I would definitely want him over someone like Jordan or Watt, no question.

I still believe that this draft only has a few elite players, and if one of them falls I still want them at this point. But I can't say I would be upset if we end up with Tyron.

Yeah, saw him stonewall a Top 20 draft pick.

Did you also see him give up two sacks to Ayers from UCLA also? Because I did.

I'd be totally happy with smith at 9 . Love the intangibles, Even if he wasnt the defacto top OT when the proccess began he seems to be working hard to make himself the best and it sounds like the knee is ok.

Now we all know some people have there agendas on who they like and love to tell us why a thousand times over, But the six or seven replies to every single to thread about this guy is overkill we get it you LOVE this kid. Maybe a mod could just sticky your opinion for new vistors?

I'm all about drafting Smith just not at 9. I want and extra 2nd and 3rd but atleast one of them and trading back is the only way. We need a replacement for for Colombo, Davis, Spears, and a young talented CB. WE have to find that with our first 4 picks. We trade back and get Smith, Harris, Cannon, and Ellis or Jenkins then we did that. Trading back is worth and being able to add Cannon is worth missing out on Smith because you know a Castanzo, Carimi, or Sherrod will still be there.

So does every other team.

The reality is, we don't want to get too cute with this pick.

Don Banks (SI.com) mocks Tyron Smith to Dallas, and he states that Detroit would jump all over him at 13. Pouncy, Watkins, Sherrod, and Ijalana go in round 1. This would make my other favorite, Stefan Wisniewski a prime target at pick 40. I'd love this to play out.

You can go ahead and add Detroit to these teams who probably have Smith as their number 1 rated OT:

Cleveland
Dallas
Washington
Houston
Minnesota
Detroit
New York Giants
Philadelphia

I bet all these teams have Smith rated number 1 at the position. 7 of the 8 teams need an OT for sure.

Cleveland, Washington and Houston probably aren't even in the market for a OT in the 1st round.

I think Dallas is being careful to scout him as he'll be their target sans a trade-up for Peterson.

No you didn't.

Ayers has never even had a game against USC in which he's had two sacks. He's played in three games in his career against USC, and has totaled just one sack.

Thanks for playing.

Pro Day video interview from the official USC site:

The sun was out on Loker Track Stadium today as NFL coaches, like the Cowboys' Jason Garrett and Raiders' Hue Jackson, and team scouts watched the Trojans who took part in USC Pro Day.

Here is Tyron Smith, who is projected as a first round pick and the top Trojan. Smith ran a 40 in 5 seconds flat and benched 225 pounds 31 times.

21 Kansas City
22 Indianapolis
23 Philadelphia
26 Baltimore
29 Chicago
31 Pittsburgh

I sure hope he doesn't go to the Times New Romans.

Yeah but Dallas would not be picking 16 out of the goodness of their hearts. If they are at 16 they obviously got something in return for sliding down.

Most people see the value in Smith after a trade down because of the extra picks.

If you arent on the Tyron Smith bandwagon I dont see how moving down to 12 and getting an extra 4th is going to make you feel better.

This is one of the highest picks weve had in a while, the guy needs to be one of our best players in 3 years.

If you are on the Tyron Smith bandwagon you are of the belief he he can be an elite tackle in the league and have no problems taking him at 9 knowing he wont last much further

Edit

but if they really like Smith (or whatever player) you have to make sure you are still going to get your guy. Trading down just to get an extra mid-round pick is not a good enough reason to trade down.

Put more simply

GloryDaysRBack;3893208 said:
correct...you only trade down in a scenario in which multiple players are available that you have graded equally..

this at least increases the likelihood of getting one of these players..

Yes. Which is why Cleveland seems like a fair trading partner for us. We dont who they really like but we can peg them w/ a few choices and all seem about equal. Thus they can almost get a free pick out of it.
