Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Butler

No, the refs called the game as they saw fit. The Cowboys couldn't get over their own lapses in judgment/playcalling to win. It is pretty simple. The rules are available for everyone to view before the season starts. Butler broke a rule, it was called, and we got penalized. Nothing new.
You know it's not that simple.
The difference is that both teams broke rules...but only 1 team got calls go against them at critical times.

If this rule isn't new while has it not been called since 1984?
Why didn't the ref throw the flag before the ball was snapped?
Why wait until the next play is over, when the guy you are flagging isn't even on the field anymore and the play is over? An unsportsmanlike call can be thrown in dead ball situations.

The last time that was penalty was apparently called in the NFL, before today.
this is the most sickening thing i've ever heard.

so you're telling me 2 years after "the catch" screw up, they decide to make a call for the first time in 30 yrs old in the playoffs against us?

i swear the league is playing a sick game with us because of the jerry's past issues with them.

Yes. That's my understanding is that it was last called in a NFL game in 1984. That's why I say it feels like one of the officials was reading the rule book this last week and decided to show his knowledge of the rule book during this playoff game that he was selected for. I still think this is probably the least impactful of the strange calls that went against us.

I wouldn't say least impactful.
That call took us from the red zone to punting. We would have certainly put up 3 or 7 points on that drive.

Its still a penalty I think, just not a 15 yarder. The missed Witten DPI and the Phantom hands to the face were more impactful. I can pretty much guarantee those effected 11 points of score. The Butler one might have made a 3 or a 7 but its a longer series of plays afterward to get there I think.

What kind of official would pour through the rules looking for something that hadn't been enforced since Tony Romo was 4 years old and spring it on a team in the playoffs?

Oh, and we had the ball at their 16. This call most certainly cost us points and changed the outcome of the game.

Last time it was the defintion of what was a "catch " with G.Bay.......

Now Blandino has to expalin.........what is officically a huddle?......a half circle of most of the Oline?....or a full circle with everyone holding hands?
Yup it's always something pulled out to screw us. Seen this movie before and I'm bored. Call me when we get to the super bowl. I'm over it

I don't know man. Remember how many threads we had on here about how important a quick start is for this game? a TD drive there would have given the team a confidence boost.

Just not willing to say its a guaranteed TD drive. That's all I'm saying. There are other penalties that I feel you can easily make the leap from it was called and then points were taken away or scored. The Witten one, I don't believe they can stop us 4 times from the 2 yard line. The Phantom call on Mo is a 7 they hung up.

I swear I have seen the same thing from team after team for as long as I've been watching football (a long time).

Only against the Cowboys.

Was going to write the same thing .. when I saw the replay I was like "Are you kidding me?" .. who calls that? .. it's like the 6-seconds goalie rule in soccer .. no ref pays attention to unless one wants to be tiki tak about it .. ridiculous .. just ridiculous

1984? I had Commander and Eagle fans sitting next to me in the bar telling me they have never seen that penalty before. I been watching the NFL since 1991, I never seen that call either. I don't know if a guaranteed touchdown would have happened. But a field goal would have been attempted. 3 big points there.

Key part of the rule is communicating. He NEVER communicated with anyone in the huddle. That is why it is not a violation. Once again we get screwed by the officials.

To me that's the biggest issue. You can argue that he was in the huddle but you can't argue that he communicates with anyone in the huddle unless you're looking for an excuse to call this penalty. Butler's attention was towards the sidelines and not towards anyone in the "huddle". This making the call bogus.

They can call some garbage like this that pretty much is never called, but they don't call holding ONCE on the packers? The refs smile and chat it up with aaron rodgers after they rush to give him the ball so they can call that 12 men on the field penalty against us? Big play after big play constantly nullified due to penalties? I'm sorry, but the refs need to be called out. Refusing to do so is weak.

One wonders if G.Bay coaching maybe noticed it happening several times, as they were watching game tape during the week, and alerted Blandino and crew to look at it...............that call, as some have stated hasnt been seen for decades......it had to get on the ref's radar in some way or form.
Of course it was McCarthy ...Ref called it was on his side of the field.
