Even if he did make it through this, what would his quality of life be? It sounds like some pretty serious head injuries.

This kid's life has been on the "trainwreck" stage for quite a while now. Hopefully, if he survives this, he'll have learned to make more prudent decisions.
Hate to see it, but realistically, if he wasn't an NFL player this wouldn't even be in the news.
Godspeed.

the kid had seemed to have turned his life around.

Agent: Henry is "battling for his life"

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 16, 2009 9:32 PM ET

Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry is "battling for his life tonight," according to his agent Andy Simms.

Simms' words are just the latest to underscore the life and death nature of Henry's struggle. By all accounts, Henry remains on life support after getting thrown from the back of a truck earlier Wednesday following a domestic situation.

The more we hear about the situation, the more dire it sounds.

Dan Graziano of AOL Fanhouse quotes a source "with direct knowledge" of the situation: "We don't think he's going to make it."

Henry's mother and the rest of his family arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina Wednesday night. Henry was in Charlotte with his fiance, where her parents live.

We send Henry and his family our best wishes before this difficult night ahead.

Something a bit odd about this is that on the channel 5 web site it says "homicide" detectives were called to the scene. If Henry is still alive why would "homicide" detectives go there? Unless that is SOP, I don't know.

I don't know, but I would like to see what the board lawyers have to say about this

I wonder if this could be qualified as Manslaughter

I'm confused. Multiple reports are saying he died hours ago and other reports are saying he is on life support with serious injuries. Anyway, here's what I dug up from Mecklenburg County:

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after a serious accident in northwest Charlotte about noon on Wednesday.

Henry fell from the bed of a pickup truck being driven by his fiancee, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Officers said they responded to a "domestic situation" at a home on Peachtree Road.

They found Henry lying on Oakdale Road when they arrived at the scene.
Henry had apparently jumped into the bed of the truck and then fallen as his fiancee drove away from the home, police said.

The Bengals described Henry's injuries as "very serious."
The team said the parents of Henry's girlfriend live in Charlotte.

Where I work, that's pretty standard. In a traffic accident where there's potential for it to turn into a fatality, people are called in to investigate as if it were already one.

dumb ***** (his fiancee)

Pardon?
I think both parties were dumb*****. The victim moreso for jumping into the pickup bed of a speeding-off truck, presumably.

Did she even see him as the truck was moving? Was the truck speeding away? Did the truck stop and eject him? Was it a relatively slow acceleration?
Whatever the circumstances, the victim was the dumb one and may he rest in peace.

im disappointed with NFL.com and even ESPN.com......you would think they would make this the headline right now, but neither has. there is a little footnote at the bottom of the headline and even a sidenote....but IMO, that is kind of insulting.

1. He's not dead yet.

2. He's simply not that well known.

He is known by sports fans....ok, I will give you ESPN.....but come one, he is a player in the NFL...was a starter opposite Ocho Cinco. There is no reason for this not to be the headline story on NFL.com at least for the moment. I mean his life is hanging in the balance. Plus, there isnt anything happening right now....no games, no firings, no real news other than this.

Chris Henry is not dead... Critically injured yes but not dead, let's get the facts straight. I'm disappointed in the mods for not changing the thread title.

On Espn.com, it's the lead story on both the home page and espn.com.

At this point, there's not a lot of info to be written. I imagine that there are columnists already writing up his life story and are just awaiting the outcome.

well i try not to judge, even after I know the facts....though sometimes i still end up judging.

i am more upset that this isnt the lead story on NFL.com. That really irks me.
