Update: Dolphins agree to deal with Jeff Ireland...To leave immediately

In his four years in that post, the Cowboys drafted four Pro Bowl performers in safety Roy Williams (D1, 2002), center Andre Gurode (D2a, 2002), cornerback Terence Newman (D1, 2003) and tight end Jason Witten (D3, 2003).
Funny, two of the four were before Parcells even got here, and one he didn't want.

Why Jerry is the one who changed the structure of how talent would be evaluated and brought in. He has listened to the people he has been paying to scout talent and taking their advice even over that of his coaches. BP wanted Kevin Williams DT and the scouting department insisted on Newman and they got it. In FA it was Jerry who went out and got TO and Davis and Hamlin. I don't think Jerry is a stupid man and think he has learned from mistakes he has made in the past.
Keep telling yourself that.

I believe Jerry is convinced that he deserves the lion's share of credit for the success of this season, and is back on his player personnel throne. Lacewell will be back at VR full-time.

That is, unless he brings in another real football guy like he did with Parcells, which I sincerely doubt. Miami will head into the draft with Parcells and Ireland. We'll head in with JJ and Lacewell and Phillips. It's laughable that anyone would think that's not a big deal.

You act as though Newman over Williams is a slam dunk. Both were highly-rated players, who have been great for their teams.

Davis has played well. We'll see if everyone feels the same about him, though, after he's moved to LT next season.

Hos, you were correct about Ireland being announced today! I remember we were discussing it this morning.

Why are you so sure we'll be alright? You believe that Tom C. (sp?) is up to the task? Or do you think JJ is going to bring someone else in?

I'm assuming that everyone gets a move up vertically in the scouting department, and that Tom C. takes his place.
Yes, I have a lot of faith in Tom Ciskowski. In fact, I remember reading a quote by someone during the pre-season about him. I want to say it was Ireland, and Ciskowski was credited with a couple of finds in recent Drafts. I also remember when Ireland was first hired that he mentioned an admiration for him.

I'm just curious as to why Jerry let him go before the draft was up, we don't owe Parcells any favors.

I'm hoping for draft picks or players, but we need to remember that Miami did us a favor by letting Garrett go.

Jerry probably had a big hand in selecting the high profile picks like Quincy .. but Day 2 picks and undrafted free agents are where the scouting leg work shines.

This is the best point you have made in this thread IR.

The Cowboys just released a statement that said Jeff could leave now only if he took Julius Jones with him to Miami. :laugh2:

Could of been a favor to Ireland. Or maybe Wade wants more influence over the draft.

People forget about Wade in this whole picture. One thing Jerry has shown is that he evolves, and listens to people. Maybe Jerry believes that Wade excels at evaluating talent, and there is no reason to not believe it, provided this year's draft class. Wade may play an important role in this organization for a long time.

As I said before, somebody on this forum quoted Dan Reeves as saying that Wade is an excellent evaluator of talent.

I showed an artical from early this year Jones will rely on the men who spend 100% of their time looking at these player and that is his scouting department. I'm sure just as he did with BP they will sit down and debate the players but the biggest input will come from the head of the scouting department

goodluck and have fun losing. Be prepared to take blame for everything, because we know parcells wont.

this is no favor to Bill -- it is how good employers treat good employees. The Dolphins obviously weren't going to wait four months to hire a GM. A good employer lets people move on to better opportunities -- and that's exactly what happened here.

Ireland got his start in the NFL as a scout with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent the 1997-2000 seasons. He also was a scout for the National Football Scouting combine from 1994-96.

Before becoming an NFL scout, Ireland coached the special teams at the University of North Texas from 1992-93. This followed his playing career at Baylor University, where he was a kicker from 1988-91.
What?

Well, good riddance then.

The real question is, who is a better talent. Ireland or Garrett? The only thing Garrett has done so far is produce 30 more points on offence. TO and Witten's extra yards and TDs could be explained by Terry Glenn's absents. :)

Garrett is our next HC. I prefer keeping him.

I think that may have been the article, and I believe that the philosophy is more in line with Wade. The scouting department will be given a lot more influence.

Convenient how the media is now portraying Ireland as the guy who instrumented the re-building of the Dallas Cowboys.

True the coach is not out of the loop and in the end it will continue to be a group effort with Jones and Head of Scouting and the HC. But as Jones said when putting together your draft board you have to go by the people who have spent the year evaluating these prospects. If your not going to do that they why bother having them.

Anyone who thinks Parcells sucks so bad should have no problem with anything he does in Miami. Personally, I'm not looking forward to the next few drafts....
Nothing like predicting gloom and doom...

The problem is, Parcells is taking away the guy that JJ hired and made known to Parcells, i.e. JJ's guy...

That's your story and you're sticking to it, hell, high water or facts to the contrary be damned.....I realy do respect your tenacity.
