Barber is better at making his own holes and creating his own yards, that is w/o question

I agree with that too.

And Barber is better at picking up the blitz.

But he doesn't have the ability to "take it to the house" from any point on the field and quite honestly I think Julius Jones is the best "screen back" we've had since Tony D.

Both guys have positives and negatives... I like the combo quite frankly.

Heck I want consistency too but the fact is consistency entails more than just JJ. Barber's numbers weren't great the last few games of the season either.

What we may end up finding that the running back system Parcells put in place as the best system to get the most out of each player. And with an improved offensive line BOTH players could increase their numbers even more.

Heck I have no problem letting the backs compete... but to toss Jones under the bus is ridiculous.

No more ridiculous than people saying Barber can't do it, he is a 3rd down guy and that is it. Barber has not had a chance at the job and for anyone to say what he can do or not is a load. As I have said I hope to see them compete for the job and who ever does the better job wins the job. If that is Jones then great, I don't dislike him but it is hard not to see the difference Barber has made in the second half of games where he is in there for entire series and how the offense has responded with him in the offense.

what I have in bold is debatable, Julius is very good at picking up the blitz, I'd say they're about even in that regard

I like the combo too, and honestly, switch the roles around, and I like that too, have Barber soften up the D, and bring in Julius for the home-run hit

It's really quite simple. He is just a wimpy runner. He runs like a wimp. A poodle. He folds up and runs up the back of his lineman. He is afraid of pain.

Put up all the stats you want, he is the exact opposite of Barber. He' just a wimp.

Pretty insightful.

Jones is not taking it to the house, he had 1 big run last year that was it. He has speed and that is great but speed is not what makes a RB if it did Emmitt would not have won the rushing titles as many times as he did and would not be the all time leading rusher.

I don't know why you're debating Julius' homerun ability, yes he needs to showcase it more consistently, but it's definitely there

Of course Barber looked better in the 2nd half of games! I mean fatigue does play a role in the effort put forth by a defensive line and there is no doubt an opposing teams' d-line is going to be more fresh when facing Jones than Barber. Barber is the perfect guy out there to face a fatigued defense-- and he was able to capitalize.

I don't know why he is either.

There are some guys like Bledsoe who Doom's had a woody for and wanted to give every benefit in the world too (after I told him repeatedly what corpse Bledsoe was in Buffalo)... but a guy like Jones who's done a decent (not great, but decent job) get's tossed under the bus as fast as Dooms can toss him.

it's funny since we're making concessions, and are giving Barber his props

You, why get technical about stuff. It's really quite simple. He just runs like a wimp. End of story.

Give me a break, Barber did a very good job and it was not due to a tired defense. Dallas many times were trailing going into the second half of games because the offense could not get much going at the start and Barber did help spark the offense which lead to many to start asking why Barber was not getting more time. Jones has not done enough to be handed the job it is time for him to earn it. If Jones was doing a great job there would be no debate at all.

This post drips of irony considering your stance on Bledsoe's decent job of playing QB during the 2005 campaign.

The difference, I suppose, is that dooms isn't advocating cutting Julius, just making the situation better, with or without him.

I don't see anywhere where he's saying the line needs to run-block better

it's funny, none of you guys are addressing the real problem, Julius not eluding the S or LB once he's through the hole, he's not going to be breaking many tackles, that's why we have Barber here, he's a player that relies on burst and quickness, he needs to use it more, simple as that

and again, the line needs to open up holes, Julius is the type of runner that needs holes

btw, we need to put Julius in a position where he's in the open field

Tossing him under the bus? Barber in my view has earned the right to compete based on his play. I'm not in love with either guy but I want to get the best back out there and right now I do have big doubts about Jones being the guy.

It wasn't decent. The 17th ranked starting QB isn't "decent".

That's below average.

Try again with a little less trauma?

yet you're sure about Barber, or you wouldn't be advocating him competing for the starter's job

I just don't get that

Hey, I have no problems letting Barber compete for the staring job but last year's combined effort for both players was very, very good and with an improved offensive line I would look for even better things this year. I'm just not as down on Julius Jones as many here.

Your right I'm advocating having 2 RB compete for the starting role, not handing the job to either one but having them earn it. Yes that is what I'm saying and I'm sorry you don't get that. As far as being sure about Barber no I'm not sure which again is why I'm not saying hand him the job but don't sit there say he can't do it when there is nothing that says he can't. Funny thing is during the 1st part of the season I defended Jones and his role as the starter but the more I saw from Barber the more I wanted to see him get a chance to compete for the starting role and the carries that go with the job.

Jerry might just surprised all of us and trade first round picks with the Bills, along with jujo, in order to draft Lynch before Green Bay does.

I just expect more from my starting RB, if that ends up being Jones then I'll be thrilled about it but what I refuse to do is turn a blind eye on Barber and the job he has done. I think Barber has earned the right to compete for the job. Let me say when Jones is on I love watching him but I don't see the overall consistency I expect out of the starting role
