Vikings interested in Trey Lance?

Unless Dallas is 100% committed to making Trey Lance their next starting QB, I would trade him AND Michael Gallup to MIN for their #11 pick.

OR Lance + Gallup + Schoonmaker + #24 to CHI for their #1 pick.

then pick JC Latham (OT) or Marvin Harrison JR (WR)

I'm bad at this btw...
Those trade scenarios are completely unrealistic and Cowboys-biased.

You're suggesting Minn would trade the 11th overall pick in the Draft for our 3rd string QB that we do that want that's never done anything on the field, and a WR that we don't want.

Or.....and even better,....trade the same 2 players we don't want, plus our bust TE from last year, to move from 24 to the 1st pick in the draft?

You realize that New England who is sitting at pick 3, would not even be able to move TWO spots up to pick 1, even if they offered 3 more first round picks?

I'm guessing no.

Trey Lance + Gallup might get us a 5th round pick. MAYBE.

Most people have written off Lance without even seeing him play for the Cowboys! Ridiculous. Give the guy a chance.
The only problem is that it is basically impossible to figure out when he could even be given a chance. If Dallas wants to remain competitive at all in the next two seasons, they are basically handcuffed to Dak due to the way his cap hit is structured. Unless you're going to be sitting a QB accounting for $40+ mil against the cap, there just isn't a way to get Lance on the field barring an injury to Prescott.

Well if the plan is to ride out Prescott next season and then let him join a desperate bottom feeder team willing to overpay him then it would make sense to keep Lance and play him in pre season games to assess his potential as a future starter. If it looks like a non starter then they can either bring in a vet QB for chicken feed or to have drafted a QB in 2024 or draft a QB in 2025.

The Broncos just released Russell Wilson with almost a $30 million more of a hit than should Prescott be a post June 2024 cut! The Cowboys are only tied to Prescott should they decide to.

People are fully aware the roster has had a few holes - but every team does! No team has All Pros across the board. People put the 49ers on a pedestal but truth be told, Trent Williams holds the entire offensive line together. The Ravens dismantled them and the Chiefs caused enough pressure to make it an issue and that was a team with a QB earning peanuts.

Prescott is still a top 10 paid QB in the league after his old contract extension and at some point over the next year he will be a top 3 paid QB.

He has stunk the joint out in three big post season games on the spin and really only the game against the Packers can people focus on blaming the defense and even then he personally gave them two touchdowns before half time. He simply isn't worth keeping for the amount of $ he seeks and anyone being objective with a brain knows that.

Only way it makes sense for Trance to play is a complete rebuild. Give him a chance, if does not work out you will have a top 10 pick.

They could draft a QB in the first round. If Lance hits his straps in pre season they could start him and ease in the rookie QB when ready. If Lance plays lights out he keeps the gig for the season. If he stinks it out they could sign a vet or start the rookie QB if he's ready.

The team went 5-1 with a below average practice squad QB Cooper and the team had a better winning % of completed starts from a washed Andy Dalton than Dak Prescott during the same season and AD had an even weaker offensive line in front of him.

If Prescott could have played better and executed a few key plays and helped the team beat the 49ers in even one of those post season games then maybe there's a semblance of an argument that he's worth the big bucks. But he didn't and he's not. He really isn't that much of a difference maker to this team as has been shown by Rush and Dalton.

I would not be surprise if Jerry trades him for a 6th rounder. Then his excuse would be we needed to Lance to get Dak's 60 million dollar deal done.

How many QBs can you think of that went bust for a team, then went on to become a great QB for another team? I’m not talking about the Brett Favre situation in Atlanta where he didn’t get an opportunity to play and then got traded to the Packers. Steve Young is about the only QB I can think of. He struggled in Tampa and they traded him to San Francisco and he went on become a Hall of Fame QB. The highlights I’ve seen of Trey Lance in San Francisco weren’t very impressive. Because he’s had limited opportunities there’s an outside chance he could possibly develop into a pretty good QB. There’s a chance of him becoming “pretty good” but I don’t see him becoming a franchise QB for anyone. The way his career has gone so far his confidence has to be pretty shaken.

He’s 23 years old. If he was good enough to trade a 4th rounder for just less then a year ago he should be good enough to at least go to camp and battle for the backup spot.
The young man had people chirping in his ear about how great he was and that by coming out he would be set for life in the NFL, but what he actually got was some seriously bad advise and now he's a young veteran QB with not a lot of NFL experience and not a lot of college experience to fall back on. Hell, his body is already breaking down from all the hits he's received running the ball and that was supposed to be his BREAD &BUTTER in the league. If a team comes knocking on the door asking to kick the tires on Lance, then JJ has to do whatever it's going to take to get a deal done and move on from this ridiculous mistake he made to obtain this kid. Let's face it, 2024 needs to be a throwaway season and I believe most Cowboy fans would be okay with that, considering the high draft pick the Cowboys could have going into the 2025 season, not to mention the cap space JJ is also going to have leading into the 2025 season. This could be a short and sweet rebuild....................

Not sure how anyone would know. Lance threw less than 500 passes between high school and college.
You hit it right on the head, the kid didn't have a lot of experience throwing the ball in HS and College and now everyone is expecting this kid to be the answer to the Cowboy's problems?????? His Bread & Butter coming into the league was supposed to be his LEGS and we all know how that has worked out for him with all the time he has spent on the IR list..................LOL!

I was simply commenting on the feasibility of getting Lance sufficient snaps before having to make a call on him. I hope he looks good enough in preseason to help answer some of those questions, but a few more regular season starts would be great to see before being forced into making the decision.

Dallas certainly could move on from Dak, but you likely are just not going to be competitive for the next two seasons if you choose to do so due to the structure of his cap hit. I'll be interested to see what choices the Cowboys make because they've put themselves in a really weird situation with the way they've gone at QB.

As I said when this was brought up in another thread, this just seems like a bogus rumor. There were no indications the Vikings wanted him in the summer when he became available for a trade and they knew Cousins' was in the last year of his contract, and no current indications from the Cowboys that the organization is disappointed in him (it's the opposite) and are going to do anything other than still develop Trey for the near future.

Anyone that’s written him off has never seen him play. The fans that support him have never seen him play. No one has seen the guy play.
I say him play when he was with the niners and he lost his job. They were not going to put any more of their resources into Lance. I'm not saying he's through but he's through with SFran.
