We need to move Byron Jones back to corner

It was Zone coverage. They didn't target anyone. That's what happens to zone coverage when the pass rush didn't get home.

They weren't expecting a pass rush with a 3 man line. Lol. The idea was to drop 8 in coverage and knock the ball down. How do you plan to successfully rush the passer with a 3 man line?

Byron was covering grass and got caught peaking at Rodgers. He should have stuck with Cook when Cook was in his zone.

He stuck with his zone. Cook scrambled out of his zone.

Landon Collins was picked AFTER Jones. I bet 99% of Cowboy fans would like a do over.

It's not logical to expect to get the best player left with every pick. JJ Watt was picked after Tyron Smith. Tyron was still a hell of a pick.

Byron was where he was supposed to be. Our pass rush didn't get home, Rodgers threw a perfect pass, and Cook made a perfect catch. Tip your hat.

Again. What pass rush were you counting on with a 3 man line? We were not PLANNING on getting to Rodgers on that play. The defense was set up to cover his receivers with 8 in coverage.

And that could very well happen again this draft.

I wouldn't automatically pencil in a DE in the 1st round.
To be honest, I hope not. If so it means either A) we got lucky and the best player on our board at 28 is actually a DE (possible by not likely) or B) we've gone back to making the mistakes in the draft of picking solely for need and falling on our proverbial faces by bypassing the higher graded player.

I understand that everyone is up in arms about upgrading the pass rush. I'm all for it but not if it means whiffing on a top 30 pick HOPING that the guy we drafted, at a needed position, plays at a level within 2 rounds from where we picked him (Demarcus Lawrence, anyone?).

As far as the draft goes, I hope we stick to the philosophy that we've stuck with the past few years. TE ranked s a top 15 play falling to us at 28? I take him over the DE that is ranked as the 35th best player in the draft. I understand we need D-line help but when you make gaffes like that in the draft, DL becomes the least of your worries 3 years down the road.

I sure would. Especially if there's one available. I love our draft and what we did and I wouldn't trade it for anything but if the Cowboys had traded up for Ogbah or drafted Spence they wouldn't be hurting. There are guys like that every year at the top of the 2nd and end of the 1st. Even if it is a late 1st rounder that's better then what we have invested in our line as of right now.

That's great but you do that and Prescott and Brown are not members of this team. Pick your poison.

Collins is from a big time college program that plays against tough opponents. Byron is a gym rat from UConn that looked good at the underwear olympics and got drafted earlier than he should have.

You're wrong. The people who know football know that he was a good pick. The only people who don't think so are fans who only look at INTs. He was picked 27th and there are not 27 players from that class better than Byron Jones. NFL.com had him in the top 25 players under 25 years old. PFF graded him one of the top coverage safties in the league. The announcers all rave about him. It's okay to be mad about the loss; but let's be rational.

I wish there was a dislike option, because I watched the same game as you, how can you come out swinging at Byron? Lets talk coaches, missed assignments, aweful LB play(we had one come to play and his name starts with S). We sucked, but Byron was the least of our problems on d.

I didn't say anything about this game, I'm referring to what I've seen of him the past two seasons. He's inconsistent, lacks instincts and looks like an average player. Haven't had many positive things to say about him prior to this game.

He's clearly well above average. He's one of the 2 or 3 best defensive players on the team, and that includes a healthy Claiborne.

When you look at how average our defense is that's not saying much. We need to upgrade the talent on defense or we're not going to get anywhere in the playoffs. We need to add a playmaker to the secondary and improve our pass rush.

I agree with all of that. But it does nothing to suggest Byron Jones is an average player. He's not. He's one of the best defensive players under 25 YO in the leauge.

I fully agree.
