Turpin isn’t a legitimate NFL WR. He wasn’t a WR in college. What he is… is a hell of a kick returner who like all kick returners is going to have the occasional fumble. It’s just the chance you’re going to have to take for the consistent possibility of him breaking one on any given return!

For the 2022 season, returners ranked by average yards per return:

Turpin ranked 30th in kick-off returns

Turpin ranked 18th in punt returns

And worth every sixpence.

As for the point, Turpin has shown himself to be a good returner at the NFL level, good enough by general acclaim to get a Pro Bowl berth. Reality has proven he is enough for that role in the NFL.

As for fumbles, I prefer RBs as returners. Guys who are a little thicker and have had their ability to hold onto the ball thoroughly tested. I hope we give Deuce a lot of testing out over the next year for returns. I like the way he *receives* a ball. Looks very natural.

But Turpin can at least return punts at the NFL level. That reality was demonstrated over a season.

Look I'm frustrated with his bobbling and fumble elitis but calling him names and saying that we're kidding ourselves he is a weapon on special teams and he's starting to learn our offense and I think that if we give him a shot he's going to change a lot of minds. If he continues to make mistakes he won't make the team but acting like he's overrated I don't think so the man's supposed to be good on special teams and I think he's trying too hard to make sure he sticks with the team because he's having PTSD you know moving around so much after college but I think that he's trying a little too hard to make the big play and I think if he just settles down a little bit he's going to be fine.

He’s not an nfl WR yet. But he was the mvp in USFL as a reciever so he has the potential
He does need to fix the fumbles but he has serious return skills
