Good news.

Remember when Dr. Jerry Jones saw the X-rays and said it was not necessary?

Good times.

Bingo.... I was thinking the same thing. Days like this it's hard to be a cowboy fan. Dallas' GM is being playing used car salesman while other GM's build a winning franchise. John Elways has worked miracle in Denver while the Jones offer entertainment in Dallas.

I agree Doc and it's troubling. No way is Tony making the calls on this - the staff should've been recommending it and they didn't and the only reason I can see is that on the one in a million chance we made the playoffs he could've played. It just seemed like a no brainer after the second fracture and third overall.

Can you please give us some insight as to this procedure. Will it strengthen the entire area to the point of prior to the first fracture or is it a stop gap to reinforce an area that has been traumatized twice in a year?

Everything I read and have read on this surgery says that it's an elective surgery that will go a long way to assure there won't be another break in the future.
I'm no doctor...but I don't see any reason to feel that this surgery makes him at any increased risk of an injury. After watching him break it 3 times now I am glad he is having it plated.

So that's how you get Tony Romo's name on a conference championship day... Ohhhhhhhh...

Putting a plate.... It will just break in a different spot. Weakest link.

Honestly I thought that was a Risen post - an attempt at humor and completely wrong.

First - medically speaking from the Doc in this thread - there is no weakest link in the bone - it will be completely healed come August.

And second - Tony's been trending big time all day today long before your post--

How would you say strength will compare to normal (if he had not injured it at all). Same, 80% etc...thanks in advance Doc50

The bone cortex usually develops increased thickness and strength at the fracture site, so that it's actually stronger than the original.

You're...less than...smart...if you think Jerry is making medical decisions for the Cowboys.

This is embarrassing...the things people do for likes.

I disagree, Frozen (respectfully). If we had a solid QB in the wings then I think the position should at least be a competition. If we were sitting like Packers were when Favre was at the end of his careers, then yes. We are not there and probably won't be even if we draft a guy high this season. Tony Romo can still play some pretty damn solid football, bro. People can hate all they want (and, no I'm not calling you a hater) but, for now, Tony Romo IS this football team. He's got a huge contract and a desire like no other to win. We can't eat the contract and makes no sense to trade or cut him without a solid backup plan in place. Lest I remind you of the void at that position between Aikman and Romo. You don't just change for the sake of change unless you're into the Cleveland Browns roadmap to success. They are the perfect example of what your franchise looks like without a QB. We actually HAVE a QB.

One more thing: Look at all the QBs in this championship weekend. The only one younger than Romo is Newton. Romo IS a championship caliber QB and he's absolutely capable of being exactly where these QBs are next season. He needs help just like these guys do. Cam ain't doing this all by himself. He's got a hell of a defense. Ditto for Manning, Brady, and Palmer.

Address the future of the QB position? You bet, and NOW. But cut ties with Romo just for the sake of it? Franchise suicide and minimum 5 to 10 year set back.

I mean, I hear you.

Trust me I use to be the same way, hold onto Romo because we don't know what the future holds, and maybe just maybe we can get to the promise land.

How long do you hold onto him, until you realize he's not the awnser?

I just don't want us to be one of those teams that hold on, just to hold on.

We will see though.

Vinnie and frozen have two of the dumbest views on Romo of anybody on this board

What's your views on Romo. Atleast skin can make a valid point.

I bet you just cheer, just to cheer and think everyone is great just because you are a fan.

I bet you are the type to run around and tell people MO and Carr are the Revis and Sherman for this team.

If you had it your way I bet you would want to bring Keith Davis, Reeves and Derek Ross. :lmao2:

Love anything Cowboys. Even if it hurts the team.

I think the answer is 3 fold, actually.

I think you hold on to him until:

A.) He proves he ISN'T the answer (which he hasn't done, IMHO)

B.) You can afford to eat the remainder of his signing bonus

C.) You have a viable option besides him.

Right now, I don't think you can honestly say, with any honest conviction, "yes" to a single one of those questions. Until you can honestly give a resounding "yes" to at least two of those questions, then you ride with the guy and keep in mind that he was the most accurate passer in the game before this past season and was deadly efficient in the TD to INT category. Romo is no different than any other QB, man. He's not going to be able to do any of this by himself. No QB does. Brady (arguably the best QB in the history of the game) proved that today. Get him the help he needs (a defense and a running game) and he's playing on championship weekend, too. When your QB lacks the skills to get it done, you move on. Romo doesn't have that problem.

I really can't get mad at your opinion, because the same points you are bringing up, are the same points I use to bring up a couple of years ago. When I use to argue for Romo.

So I'll respect it.

Why is he waiting so long to have this surgery? His season has been over for more than a month. Am I missing something? @jobberone @Doc50

Yeah, no need for any of us to get mad at an opinion anyway as long we all explain our points of view and avoid the drive by "I'm right, you're wrong" stuff.

I'm open to hearing opposing view points as well. I, honestly, just don't see a viable or logical alternative at the QB position as it stands, right now. But, hell, my ears are open, my man.

Take care, F7.

I think at his age he was waiting to see if it was really necessary in order to get the bone to heal correctly, Z. Speaking only for myself, I don't think I would be down with someone cutting into me and attaching things to my bones if wasn't absolutely necessary.

If, I had to guess, after his consultation I think it was determined that the only way to guarantee that the bones would heal correctly was to perform the surgery. Again, this is all speculation on my part so, you know, the whole grain of salt thing.
