Twitter: What does Eberflus credit for the defensive turnaround?

There is no DC that could have coached our Defense to success, with all of the injuries, trading Micah at the last minute for basically nothing this year, until trades were made, while installing a new system.
This is why unless the defense struggles down the stretch, I prefer bringing Eberflus back over bringing in another defensive coordinator. There's always a learning curve. I'm not saying he's my favorite DC, but he's been a successful one in the past, so let's keep building toward hopefully success in the now.

The question in the off season is do we commit to continuing to fix this defense?

If we have to tag Pickens, resign Aubrey and Williams, what will be left to help the other side of the ball.

I mean I hear ya Thunder but at some point credit the opponent while also crediting our dee. If for this specific game only.

Everybody ain't Mahomes. All those spins and escape jobs and mobile on the run accurate downfield throws while outside the tackle box ain't in all other opponent QB DNA.

What Im saying is we had several of those so called pressures and almost sacks that you talk about pretty frequently here that are probably sacks with about 29 other QBs.

Mahomes is elite.
We gave up 28 but the dee was and is very much improved as well.

Hope the dee continues to improve.

I largely agree, and the arrow is pointed up I’m not questioning that for a second but 28 points given up is still more than you’d like to see. The cowboys offense is borderline elite this year and only averaging 29ppg. I’d still like to see this defense take it to another gear before I start singing their praises too hard. You have a legitimate X factor player in Q and surprisingly to me you may have another in Overshown who looks to be moving as good as ever.

Performance has improved but so have expectations. I don’t think this is just the keep ‘em under 30 defense we were hoping for just a few weeks ago.

What a pile of BS.

Think about this, add this to any D:

1. Top 3 DT
2. Top 5 LB
3. Top 5 CB
4. Quality slot CB
5. Solid MLB
6. Solid NT.

That's 6 new starters. 6. Over half the D has been replaced. But it's all about consistency and continuity. Eber, if you're going to say something this dumb, just STHU.

6 new players = continuity?
Whose the top 5 CB? And when's that guy gonna play?

Could be 3 first rounders now on the defensive line (Clark, Quinnen, Clowney) and the return of OV and another theoretical first round ( before injury) in Revel......but i could just be wrong about it.

The defensive roster from game 1 just ain't here anymore.....and thank God!
Man, I think Clowney might miss the Lion's game, but yeah the personale mods we made over the bye are about equal or greater than an average NFL offseason. 3 brand new player introduced (Wilson, Williams, Revel), plus Overshown, Seatbelt, and now Butler back off IR. Hooker made a difference as well. Let's hope Diggs has something left in the tank down the stretch.

The correct answer is “talent” I’m still not sold on him but the secondary is getting healthier and we added some real talent. Good players make teams better

I still say Eberflus needs to answer for how lost the defense looked the first half of the season. I don’t believe he did what needed to be done to make sure the players were ready. I’ve never seen a defense look as lost and hapless.
A big part of it was just the beat up secondary. But I’m not sold on him either. I get the injuries but it was more than bad. It was historically bad

If we lose to the Cheifs y'all are blaming the defense for giving up 28 points.

But because we won the defense is fixed.
MC, I was just saying this today to one of my friends who is also a Cowboys fan.

This defense isn't "fixed", it's just better (and the bar was low). It would be different if this defense were suddenly dominant, holding the last 3 teams to under 250 total yards, playing like the Texans defense. They ain't there yet.

For now, they're average-ish, making just enough plays to win....same with the offense. JUST enough.

And if they keep coming out the gate getting behind after slow starts, especially on the road, they're going to not be able to comeback. I still can't figure out why this offense doesn't have a better game plan on those first few drives. Did they not study the opposing defense during the week, focus on their weaknesses, and designed a gameplan to expose it early? Nope. Schotty comes out with some vanilla plays, abandoning the best matchups, often presents no threat downfield (play action to Ferg in the flat for 1 yard, wooohooo!!)...and he seems to be OK with just punting on the 1st drive. I'm not suggesting to force downfield throws, but where's the creativity early, a sense of urgency to score first?

Eb is getting better, as he's starting to come out with new looks to start the game, and even blitzed early. So in this way, Eb is outperforming Schotty. Let's go, Schotty....figure out how to score FIRST.

What were you expecting exactly?

We gave up 27.5 points a game with Micah.

This defense needs to play like they have the past three weeks for the next five weeks, and then I will be sold on Eberflus.

Maybe the players just needed time to learn a third scheme in three years. Add that to the talent that arrived in November and the results speak for themselves.

So far, that is.
Ah, so you're saying he needs talent. No one has been saying that.

Let's not pretend we've arrived defensively. Better? Heck yes. But we must continue the trajectory upward. We got a lot of work to do ahead of us. Many obstacles. Some we control, some we can't.
You can’t fix Eber.

Ask Chicago.

Dude ruined our season with that jacked up zone scheme.

Agree, looked like he didn’t have all summer to get the players on the same page or understand the scheme. They looked lost. Did they even practice?
