Have you seen some of the guys I worked with? None are into anything physical and when they leave their cubicles they are easily frighten, lol.

Oh so an elititist who intimidates as well, even better. :D

The last I heard was my old GM friend is under heavy pressure from corporate, something to do with engineer attrition. And if I wanted to punch a clock I would have followed my original plans of either going to the “The Diesel Driving Academy” or playing for the Campo era Cowboys. :D

Always a special treat when your leaving takes out someone who didn't want to leave. LMAO! I wonder if he gets HIS relocation paid for.

I am just trying to feed my family ::

I hate my boss for making actually talk to end users just because I work on a help desk......Oh the nerve of some people [/sarcasm]
You do mean the "no" help desk right? I use to feel that my former IT departments did not like me when I called. However, I think I will get along fine with my new place of employment IT department because they are wise beyond years for giving me admin rights upfront. :D

I am the Mississippi Account Executive for Countrywide Home Loans Wholesale Division (Countrywide Specialty Lending Group).

My customers are the Mortgage Brokers in my state, so I don't deal directly with the public. I have about a hundred or so accounts (Mortgage Brokers) that I deal with... some of them great and some not so great.

Prior to doing that, I was a student at the University of Southern Miss and worked at a local gym (for 5 years). My present job isn't nearly as fun... but the pay is much, much better.

Anyway, that's what I do in my spare time. My main occupation is being a Cowboy fan.
I have a buddy in Jackson MS and have traveled some in the state.

Dude,
I have to send out an email requesting info to access a specific computer room every day with "my" server in it to do daily backups.

Guess who approves it? MEEEE!!
Good grief.

The door has a keypad so the record was already there of time and date and it has wall to wall camera coverage.
PITA.
And on the other end we have credit card companies with unencrypted data and disappearing lap-tops loaded with top secrets.

I guess we could hope it all evens out somehow. ;)

:lmao: Management.

When I do transcend into a managerial role I will be a working manager who actually add value to the product. JT, you situation seems like an episode of Dilbert and I feel your pain.

I think I need to pick up the Peter Principles maybe it will help make some sense of the idiocy that is management, lol.

It doesn't it only gets worse. A friend of mine that works at Ford said that he has 3 managers in his two team group, with the other member being his lead, lol. He hardlines to 1 and softlines to the other 2. He told me that neither manager is in agreement with one another so he is about to throw a rod trying to appease the unapeasable.

Jackson is a pretty nice town. I live down in Hattiesburg, where USM is, and it really is a very nice place. Big enough to have most of what you want... but still has that small town feel, small town crime rate and general small town flavor that is savory to most. Probably around 150K people in the area.

Hattiesburg actually was rated as the number 1 medical community for a town its size, in the United States... and was listed as one of the top 10 retirement communities in the US. We have two hospitals here, both very large and very nice.

The town pretty much consists of the two big hospitals, the University of Southern Miss, William Carey College and about a gazillion private physicians... most of the specialists. It is a very, very white collar town because there is not much industry here.

You're about an hour away from the gulf beaches and all of the casino's here. About 2 hours or so away from the Florida panhandle and about an hour and a half away from Burbon Street in New Orleans if you want a little of that action. Two hours to Birmingham and an hour and a half from Jackson.

That's why they call Hattiesburg the hub city... because we're in the middle of everything. New orleans, Florida, Mobile, Birmingham, the gulf coast, Jackson... all are just a short drive away.

I'm originally from Texas. Born in Dallas and grew up in east Texas (commerce, Longview). Still consider myself a Texas Boy... but I'll tell you what... Mississippi isn't too bad... at least Hattiesburg isn't.

I feel like I work for the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce or something, lol.

Mississippi is a place I'd like to sight see extensively. The only part of it I've really seen is the gambling palaces in Tunica..a side excursion on a trip to Memphis.

You're not missing anything in the Greenville/Cleveland area. We've got a plant there and it's all cotton and catfish farms.

Tunica? Lord. That's like the armpit of Mississippi. Nothing there but Casino's. Tunica county MS was the poorest county, per capita, in the US prior to the casinos.

Ugly, ugly part of the state there. The delta of MS is generally shunned by the southern part of the state, which is the much better part. Greenville and that whole area, like Duane said, is just awful. When people think of Mississippi and think of the dirt poor, undereducated masses... the delta is exactly what they envision. Embarassing, really.

From Jackson MS down, it is like another state... almost like an extension of south Louisiana. Louisiana is the same way too. You can cut the state in half around Alexandria... below that is heavily influenced by New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The French influence is noticeable. Above that line, Louisiana is basically just like East Texas... piney woods and the people are the same.

Those South Louisiana people are just a different breed... very clickish. Quick to anger and to laugh. Outsiders aren't taken in very quickly and their traditions and history are their's and their's alone. Trust me... I married into that. :D

The folks in north LA are just like those anywhere else.

As far as seeing Mississippi... there really isn't a whole lot to see... although the southern part of the state, including the beaches, is MUCH nicer than the northern part... there still isn't a whole lot here to see.

No, the nice part about Mississippi is living here. The people are great, the cost of living is extremely low and the crime rate is too. Like I already said, you're very close to many places that are nice to see and Hattiesburg in particular is one of the cleaner places you'll find anywhere.

My wife is from south Louisiana and to her... there isn't a place in the world that comes close to that area. But after a few years of living over here in MS... she can't help but fall in love with it. The Hattiesburg area has the best schools in the state and crime is almost non-existent here. Very much unlike south LA.

Anyway, if you want to visit, go to the gulf coast area and go spend a day in New Orleans while you're there... it's only about an hour away from the coast. You'd have the beaches, casino's and the special brand of debaunchery that is New Orleans... all at your fingertips. You could easily take a couple of hours and drive over to Florida too. From Biloxi MS it only about 2 hours to Emmitt Smith's shop in Pensacola where he has all his trophy's etc. (if he still has that place open)... and the beaches there in Pensacola/Ft. Walton/Destin are some of the prettiest you'll ever see.

Just watch out for the sharks. There has been 3 attacks recently.

Well, I wasn't after culture in Tunica. Just blackjack and it was close to where my hubby was doing a training in Memphis. I haven't traveled much in the deep south at all but it's on my itinerary for down the road.

Interesting post. Every state, even one as small as mine, has tremendous diversity.

But Mississippi has a special interest for me as some of my favorite novelists grew up there. I don't expect to see "Faulkner country" in this milennium, but then again, your never know.

I'll keep my eye out for the sharks :)

I suppose that I shouldn't have presumed to have any idea as to why you would visit a certain state. While to most, MS might not have a lot to see... for you it could be entirely different.

I could've saved a whole lot of typing time and simply asked you why you wanted to visit this state. :)

That's why the old saying goes: God gave you two ears and one mouth so you could listen twice as much as you talk. I should pay more attention to that.

Of course, I could say that the Internet changes that and come up with: God gave us two eyes to read... but he gave us ten fingers to type with so that we might write five times as much as we read. :D

I'm Memphis born and raised but the only reason you'll ever see me in Tunica is for the concerts.

We all just assumed you guys built everything out of ice up there. :D

Ice carving apprenticeship would probably have been the better choice.

You haven't heard? We're all born up here with the innate ability to build anything out of ice. No apprenticeship required :p:
