We can only go by what's on the books.......he's never been a head coach, just as several other first time young coaches.
He's also never had any success in any stop as an assistant. He's never been anywhere longer than a few years and he's bounced around to 10+ different teams.

This feels like a draft where the team right in front of you takes the guy you wanted and aren't prepared for it, so you panic and reach.

Feels like they wanted McCarthy to return and were caught off guard after they talked. They wanted to keep continuity on offense, so they reached and decided to hire BS.

That already happened with Dallas Goedert and then Dalton Kincaid. Cowboys panicked and took Schoonmaker.

Ben Johnson has led top 3 offenses for his career as an OC.

our new head coach has only had a top ten offense once and never a top 3 or 5.

This comparison is nonsensical.
This is true........but Ben Johnson had a team stacked with talent. Similar to Kellen Moore failure with the Chargers but looks a HOF coach on a stacked Eagles team. It's going be interesting to see where they both are 3 years from now.......

I think it's Jerry trying to prove that his bizarro version of failing up is possible.

What I mean is how many failed head coaches out there were either once successful coordinators or returned to being successful coordinators once failing as the head guy?

There is an extremely long list here.

But now reverse it and say how many poor coordinators turned out to be great head coaches or were even given an opportunity because they werent any good as a coordinator in the first place?

Cowboys!

He's either interviewed or refused interviews for HC jobs 2-3 times. That doesn't happen without success at "any stop". Look Bob......you are not sold on him, I get that and to be honest, I am not but I am willing to keep an open mind.

Sure, you hope for the best. It's not like we can do anything about it.

But, if you want to objectively critique the decision making process, candidates available, and how they arrived at Brian Schottenheimer, it doesn't look good.

We all hope he’s the next Jimmy the problem is he has ZERO HC resume so how can anyone possibly believe

Oh and he was hand picked by our incompetent front office so what does that tell you

He is not the right person, and if he was on the cusp of maybe being it, the decrepid old man and his illegitimate son have left the cupboards bare at the star: No healthy QB, no QB 2 or 3...no RB, like nor RB on the roster...no healthy WR1, no WR 2, 3,4,54...no TE we can say for certain is TE1....no RG...a franchise LT named T who nobody really knows where to put him on the OL...no RG...no CB 1....no LB to speak of who is healthy.

I could be missing something, but stop me if I am kind of right. Like MM ownership has setup this guy to fail like they did MM

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
Stop drinking the Koolaid.

I guess the best thing we can hope for now is that they sink this ship so hard that we get a top pick in the draft.
If I’m going to hope for something, it’s that this leads to a Super Bowl win. But hoping and expecting are 2 different things.

He interviewed in 2008 for the Jets, and didn't get the job. He declined an interview from the Bills in the same year. That was 17 years ago. Since then, the only place he had any inkling of success was in Seattle, where he was fired for a late season collapse of his offense.

This will only feel worse after the press conference where Stephen delves into all the things they AREN'T going to do this offseason to support their new head coach.
