What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
Jazz, my take is we could have hired anyone…Ben Johnson or Belechick or brought McCarthy back…it won’t matter until Jerry is not dominating this organization. The problem isn’t who the coach is. JJ just hired his 9th head coach. The last 7 head coaches have gone 4-13 in the playoffs.

Brother I wish it were not true, but IMO this organization won’t get better until Jerry is not doing what he has done for three decades. He literally suffocates his own pet with his narcissism. He would rather lose than change. Until he’s gone, only a miracle can change this.

Siriani pointed out an upgrade was needed at running back in his offense. Or Roseman identified the missing component. Roseman acquired Saquon Barkley. The rest is history.

On the other hand, Derrick Henry was living in Dallas when Jones said, "Nah. Don't need him."

No one can make it make sense. There is 35 years of deja vu that should prevent it.
If Stephen really wanted to can Mike after the GB game it all makes sense now. They didn’t fire him, but they did nothing to help him either. Sink or swim. Must be fun to just throw away a football season…….

You know what ......right after the season I said any coach hired by Jerry for 2025 and so on will one mandate..........protect and get the most out of his three largest contracts on the team( Dak Lamb and Parsons ). Jerry want his return on investment and he doesn't have time to wait 5 years. This is why an outsider he's never worked with had no chance ( risk 1-2 years understanding each other ). It's not hard to see why this came down to Schotty and Eberflus IMO. Think ....Dak's $60m, Lamb's $40M and Parsons's $35-40M and how cheap Jerry is (lol)
The good news here is I do believe they try and get the players need for the best outcome but don't expect top players. In other words, you need a NT, another WR and LBer, got it. The problem is Stephen buys from the Goodwill instead of Walmart BUT you got what you ask for (LOL).

Yeah like your positive reasoning that Zeke would come back and be a strong contributer.
In all fairness, I feel most of the reactions are not even towards him directly. I think as much as most of us hate this hire, we all hope some how it works out well for the Cowboys. The thing is, what have the Jones done to warrant people being confident in anything they do? Anything?

The whole coaching search and process was a mess. They didn't even interview any of the TOP candidates. Forget about interview, they didn't even call them. All this after they wanted McCarthy back and he said no.

Also, maybe he is a great coach and has great ideas and schemes etc. How much will he be allowed to actually coach things his way? This is more about Kerry wanting to be comfortable and remain in control like he always has been since Jimmy left.
I thought Jerry wanted to hire pete Carrol!

Here's what I don't understand,

this place has been complaining about this possibility of him becoming our head coach since last Sunday...

You would think all week of this venting there's at least six different threads open with Schottenheimer's name on it a lot of anger and disappointment and just utter negativity ,you would think by now it's so watered down and that people were starting to become accepting of it ,because there's nothing else we can do, but again everyone's going to repeat everything they've been saying since Sunday all over again this week ,since now it's a reality and I don't understand that..

It's almost as if the fan base should have been tempered by now ,you know it should be already have gone through the emotions, and now just hey let's wait and see before we give judgment let's see what the staff is going to be... I'm still interested in knowing whether he wants to be the full time play caller slash OC and head coach ,which I believe if he really wants to truly learn to be a head coach he should be a walk around head coach with input into the offense.. He should get a offensive coordinator that can also do the play calling that would make me more comfortable maybe the student needs to learn to be a leader and to do so you can't have your focus split... I'd rather have him just be the head coach get the staff he wants assembled and let them help him succeed.

I feel like if he's too focused on the offense and play calling and the game plans for the offense that it's going to be tougher for him to transition into all this, especially here in Dallas he's already being pinned up as the poster boy for negativity towards Jerry... I mean he's a sounding board now for Jerry's mistake and this is not Brian schottenheimer's fault, I'm not happy with the hire but what exactly are we supposed to do?
I mean as a fan base all we can hope for is a little bit better off season, a spectacular draft, and hope that Jerry in order to bolster his choice here in order to prove his detractors wrong he will have a better offseason... he will give schottenheimer the tools meaning a better roster as far as the run game at least in a better wide receiver2, I mean if he can get some healthy players back and have a just a good offseason just an improvement over last year ,let's focus on the run game and let BS focus on delegating..

I feel bad for Brian Schottenheimer, I really do, he's going to be call day disappointment and failure before he has a chance to prove otherwise and that's all Jerry's fault and I think it's a fan base be a human stop being such a self-entitled angry you didn't get your way toddler because that's not going to get us anywhere because the season will go on with or without you it's already headed in that direction there'll be a football season so let's focus on football and hope and just really hope that this just happens to turn out to be a whole lot better then we initially are thinking.

I for one am going to give the guy a chance what other thing can you do.....

Here’s why it doesn’t matter who the head coach is….the last 7 coaches couldn’t get us beyond this embarrassment:

Last NFC Championship Game appearance:
  • Dallas Cowboys, 1995
  • - Chicago Bears, 2010
  • - New York Giants, 2011
  • - Seattle Seahawks, 2014
  • - Carolina Panthers, 2015
  • - Arizona Cardinals, 2015
  • - Atlanta Falcons, 2016
  • - Minnesota Vikings, 2017
  • - New Orleans Saints, 2018
  • - Green Bay Packers, 2020
  • - Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2020
  • - Los Angeles Rams, 2021
  • - Philadelphia Eagles, 2022
  • - San Francisco 49ers, 2023
  • - Detroit Lions, 2023
  • - Washington Commanders, 2024

Innovation is a term thrown around too loosely. Pro football has been around a long time and there is very little in the way of "new" ideas or concepts - if anything this should be re-worded as "liberal" or "conservative". IMO, humans are not getting smarter as time marches on so I don't buy the dream that some young new HC will have an idea that wasn't dreamed up already.
Success on the field is actually a simple formula, execution + discipline + not beating yourself will result in good things. Luck, as in lack of injuries, is a thing, though good team management will have a back-up plan - no team goes injury-free the entire season.

Anyone who thinks the Jones Bros can build a winning team is simply naive or optimistic. No coach is the correct coach with our front office. Brian is going to fail, because the organization is designed to fail at winning football.
Agreed. The largest reason BS is going to fail has nothing to do with him.

He won’t be.. wish some miracle he would but he won’t. The jones , especially Stephen, not gonna do ish in free agency once again. One of the reasons why they won’t get a qualified coach who wants to do it his way. This franchise is so screwed me

When you wish upon a star.....

This hire is like when you do a group project where one person does all of the work and then the others just show up to get the credit. He was an Offensive coordinator that didn't call any of the plays. He hasn't even coached a game and I've already seen enough.
