I would love nothing more than if Schottenheimer were a dynamic leader who could right this organization's ship.

But I have no confidence in the process that led to this hire. I have no confidence in the ownership's commitment to even trying to make the right hire. And I certainly have no confidence in Schottenheimer's resume to suggest he is the right hire.

Before he even had those great players though he was leading a top 10 offense. Brian had better players than what Johnson had early on and still did not build a better offense. Maybe he ends up good but its still a bad hire for the same reason you do not trade a first round pick for 5 7th round picks. Just because of those 7th round picks CAN work does not mean they are as likely to as a single 1st.
Who did this?
Making things up?

Great to see you around. The Joneses have lost the benefit of the doubt completely.

There is no way to answer a "what if" question. What if the earth stopped spinning?

You could have just said the stupid "give me your thoughts".

My college basketball team, the Kentucky Wildcats, hired a guy none of the fans wanted who’s been great and we appear to have hit on something.

Difference is we went after the top guys like Hurley and they said no.

One side would get incredibly hot and the other freeze. The Earth would be reduced to a small habitable ring if we are lucky and the ecosystem is able to attain a new equilibrium. Else we all die.

He has a lot of question marks, he's never been a HC, there's risk no doubt, but let's be fair.

As OC he was #1 and #4 with Dallas, #1 rushing offense '18 with Seattle, #6 overall offense.

He also led NY to two AFC Championship games with Mark Sanchez as QB, with the #1 rushing attack.
They do not want to hear this. They already are trying to convince fans other teams failures he coached for and blame it on him.

Of all the. Coaches we've had since Jimmy, B,S is the one coach that can overcome Jerry. Talk about trying to motivate the fanbase.lol

One advantage that Schotty has that others might not be familiar with is that he knows what to expect from this front office. That might well be something that would help to stave off the shock and dismay that other coaches might be badly affected by. He's also has had a good working relationship with Dak, which can't be minimized on its own merits. It also seems that expectations from the fans have nowhere to go but up.

Brian could go either way, the issue is it appears once again the Joneses didn’t have a plan. It seems they panicked when McCarthy decided not to take the extension. I also believe Kellen said no thanks. The Cowboys picked the coach that the owner and players are comfortable with. In football that is not good for success. Should have fired McCarthy after the Green Bay loss and made Quinn the head coach that would have made everyone happy at the time.
It would not have. There were a lot of fans railing against Quinn after that Green Bay loss.

I thought then as I do now, that the anger was misplaced.

Jazz, my take is we could have hired anyone…Ben Johnson or Belechick or brought McCarthy back…it won’t matter until Jerry is not dominating this organization. The problem isn’t who the coach is. JJ just hired his 9th head coach. The last 7 head coaches have gone 4-13 in the playoffs.

Brother I wish it were not true, but IMO this organization won’t get better until Jerry is not doing what he has done for three decades. He literally suffocates his own pet with his narcissism. He would rather lose than change. Until he’s gone, only a miracle can change this.
There within lies the problem with fans.
I do not buy into the myth of Jerry rather make money over winning.
Yes, track record shows this FO is dysfunctional when building a roster and handling the salary cap.

So they will quickly resort back to hating on Jerry no matter what. It is what many fans do. It is what people if life in general do.

What this is about, what if Brian is that exception. What if he is everything Jerry wanted Garrett to be. I know, it is a far fetched concept. But going to the Moon, and now even Mars. How was all of that looked at?
Even the Wright brothers had a vision, and made it work.

I already knew what many fans thoughts would be. I did not need to ask that.
What is a ... bad ... (I will not insult by using the word stupid) thought, is comparing what if the earth stopped spinning.

Well, I will say, if the Earth stops spinning. we will not be around to discuss this.

What if Brian really is the right guy, with the help of Eberflus. Who many fans wanted to be promoted to DC and then HC.
Eberflus can bring a toughness to the defense. As he did in Indy and Chicago. That can help the offense and they need it.

All fans wanted a younger HC, that could relate to the players better. Be somewhat innovative. Not saying that Schotty is that person.
But he is not a retread coach that many did not want anyway (but yet they complain Jerry did not go after any of them). Yes other candidates were out there. This seemed rushed all of a sudden after what seemed like Jerry was dragging his feet about it all.

But who are we fans to say who would be better, though we think we know. Moore? What qualifies Ben Johnson over anyone else, other than he actually has called plays with success for Detroit. But HC material, none of us knows. Carroll, Zimmer, Chucky?

I am not a big fan of this move. I did not like the way the FO went about this. We known their failures for years now. We will see how serious they are come FA to see if they are willing to actually improve the roster. Or is all of this for nothing, again.

I know what the answers and posts will be. Same old stuff that has been repeated 100 times in every thread.

So fellow Zoner's, here is a challenge. Think outside of that box in your head, and think ... what if he can be innovative and was held back by MM ...
I appreciate the sentiment, but he has been set up to fail. I can’t think of a time a HC stepped into a more hostile fanbase. The fans do not believe in this FO or any puppet they roll out there.

He will have incredible pressure from day 1 as the media will be ready to celebrate any failure and drag the Cowboys name through the mud.

Everything is set up against this guy to succeed. And as usual, the blame should squarely be placed at the feet of this inept FO

Yep, a guy that interviewed better than Johnson or Glenn, would have given us something to cheer about.

Well like you, I do not like this move at all and Jerry handled the whole situation very very badly, but obviously would love to be wrong for the sake of the team and its fans despite how bloated Jerry would feel about it.
I really do hope that he hires a good OC that actually calls the plays. Never liked the idea of a head coach to call plays.
