What if Romo wants to compete for the starting job next year?

The best three passes on the season were by Romo last season, how do you come up with that? lol It's obvious you don't like Dak by that comment and saying he's limited. We couldn't have kept the Green Bay game close early because our defense gave up 3 first possession TD's and we had a bad call on a penalty that helped kill one of our early drives. Dak's 2016 season was comparable to Romo's career year in 2014 and Dak's 4 INT's was the fewest of any starting Cowboys QB in team history. It was 5 fewer than Romo's career low. We won a franchise record 11 straight games and tied a franchise record for 13 wins and could have broke that record if Dak played more than a quarter vs Philly in the season finale and didn't mail the damn game in.

Romo had 10 years to get us over the hump and the team has moved on from him. It's threads and comments like this which is one reason Romo will be traded or released. We can't go into next season with Romo's name coming up every time Dak doesn't have a perfect game, it creates a distraction! Dak and Romo will not be able to coexist because neither will be happy as a backup.
Fans have wacky attachments. There were fans in 1996 still crying about Jerry firing Landry even though the Cowboys had just won 3 Super Bowls in 7 years with Jerry and only 2 in the other 29 years.

That is BS. There is no way Romo is basing any decision on wanting to face the Cowboys.

There is going to be so much media and fan BS between now and when the Romo issue is resolved that we're all going to get tired of it.

Agreed X...no way his decision is solely based or even primarily based on if the team he may land on plays Dallas next season. But, Denver and Houston do face them PLUS are good situation team-wise. The Cardinals could face Dallas next season PLUS they are a good situation team-wise. Having a chance to compete for a title will be paramount, playing Dallas would be a bonus.

What should have been stated at the beginning of the season and repeated all the way up until Romo returned from his injury was one sentence ; When he is healthy Romo is the starting QB.

Jerry wanted to and did say that for the longest time, but I think the media pressure finally got to him. Heck if I was Jerry and every time I turned on the TV somebody was screaming, "Jerry Jones is going to mess everything up!" then I might have wavered too. The funny thing is they ended up getting the same one-and-done reward that everyone was so sure was waiting for them if they switched back to Romo. A well deserved reward at that. Remember Jerry, those who end up listening to the fans end up sitting with them. Oops, I guess that doesn't apply to Jerry either.

What if romo turns his hat backwards, Flashes that smile, and says I'm coming for that *** dak? With a wink and a competitive spirit.

How would the cowboys handle that?
They have obviously already made that decision by making him the backup. If they were going to let him compete for the job he would have done that during the season.

I was posting on a board in 2002 where a couple of Landry FANS claimed that had Jerry not fired him we could have won more than 3 SB's during the 90s. There's already been one Romo FAN claim we would be playing in the SB on Sunday if Romo would have been our QB in the playoffs, despite the fact he's never led the team past the divisional round. Some still want Romo to have one last hurrah, they've become attached to him. Some don't like Dak's short passing game despite how efficient and effective it was.

They like Romo's gunslinging style better that produces more big plays/TD passes regardless if it means more INT's/turnovers and sacks. Dak only took 25 sacks which was one fewer than Romo's career low in which he played at least 15 games. Fewer sacks and INT's led to a very efficient offense in 2016. The big plays will start coming with Dak as he gains experience and we add a speed threat to help stretch the field.

Honestly...I think the situation could work out in the Cowboys favor...and here is how. Open up the QB competition...but here is the catch. Tony has to take a paycut and re-do his contract based on playing time. If Romo wins the job...then he makes back the money he sacrificed by hitting his playing time incentives. If he doesn't win the job...then you still have a pretty good backup QB that makes the appropiate amount a backup QB should make.

Plus...it still lights a fire under Dak. As good as this kid played last year...I'm still not sold. Was he a one year wonder? And do you really roll into next year w/ no proven backup QB?
but I was thinking Kellen Moore would be our "proven" backup......

I'm seriously starting to wonder what it is going to take for some folks to move on.

Sometimes in life people are just blinded and there isn't anything you can say for them to see the light. Don't worry though, when our 2017 starts and he isn't on the team, they will get over it fast. He has barely even played in 2 years and people still want him to start for us.

Dak finished the 2016 season with 13 wins and a 104.9 passer rating that earned him a Pro Bowl birth and some still want to go back to where we've already been with Romo. Our QB isn't the problem, it's our defense.
Just bc romo is the solution doesn't mean dak is a problem.

Q: if they didn't have a competition last year why would they have one this training camp?
A: that was mid season

Again this is about competition. Not nostalgia glasses. If romo is even just a hair better than dak we could've beat Green Bay. Every inch matters in the playoffs. They favored selling t shirts over winning.

Q: why would they want that distraction when the team went 13-3 and dak made the pro bowl?
A: we had a distractionless season last year and now look at us. Deflategate sure derailed New England

The OP is asking for something that has already been turned down by the FO. When Romo requested the opportunity to compete for the starting job, he was refused. I firmly believe the two chances of that happening are slim and none. That is precisely why Romo elected to concede the starting job to Dak when the front office declined to accept his proposal to compete for the starting spot. They've already made that decision.

Fair enough. So, what about Romo's comments?
Which ones?

From the press conference when he said he's putting the guys on the team Above his ego? This would be that same edict.

If he's so bad and brittle I'm sure dak wouldn't mind showing the old fart what's what come august :D

What choice did romo have ? Bringing his own call and playing alongside dak each snap?

My point exactly -- there was no choice to be made. It was made for him by the FO. I'm betting they'd do it again if he brings it up.
Yea I think so too. The dak, dez, zeke trio thing is just too juicy they aren't going away from that

In hindsight we should've started romo against gb and I'm serious.

You might be serious as a heart attack but I'm inclined to be just as serious that it wouldn't have changed the result one bit.

What solution is Romo? We need a solution on defense not at QB. We have a championship caliber offense with a Pro Bowl QB and a defense that continues to fold in the playoffs.

Not one bit? That doesn't make sense the entire game would've been totally different. Maybe Dallas loses by more too tho
